Someone is looking to knock down one of the two big boys. lol Good luck Rockspek. Sight it in and have at it. Can't help on which CVA though.

Taste like little pears. Green and small and hang there all season until they turn yellow late season. No idea exactly what type but they are wild.
-
Still small pears on the tree. I think he is trying to reach them. That little yellow fruit.

Just thought it was funny catching this little guy two days in a row going to the hoop

If one is going to shoot a young buck, I agree.

I agree a 3.5 is not fully mature. But its a lot closer to its potential than a 1.5 and 2.5 and still a top 18% harvest in NY according to DEC. I think it becomes a matter of goals and past successes at some point. I am pretty confident I can knock down a 3.5 every bow season (no guarantees though) and am willing to minimally wait for a good 3.5. If an older buck stops by, all the better. My odds of knocking down a 4.5 or older drop significantly. So, only I (or any hunter) can answer the question whether I am willing to take the chance I will eat that tag waiting for one 4.5 or older. The longer I hunt and the more bucks I kill, the easier it becomes to wait it out for exactly what I want, that's for sure.

Isn't the point that genetics play a large role, but with wild bucks you will never really know how good those genes are until the buck has aged? Makes a lot of sense. If you are forced to shoot a 1.5, might as well shoot the spike vs. 8pt if the goal is for one of them to live to become a trophy buck, but nobody is forced to shoot anything and both can be left to live a couple more years and see how they are progressing. The whole premise of choosing between two young bucks seems misguided if you are hoping they grow into big racked bucks. Let em both go.

That buck is just absolutely absurd. Please hang my buck far far away when mounting it. The drop tines are massive. Must stink trying to sneak though woods with those on your head. -
The buck I shot this year through the heart headed straight uphill. He also tumbled back down from the top, but I agree that there is no hard and fast rule and you must make an educated decision on whether to push or back out. It does seem that gut shot deer like water.

Inverted bell curve on deer sightings beginning on regular season opening day. Good news, we should be on the upswing again. I usually enjoy ML weekend but tend to skip most the time between opener and ML.

The neck osso buco is one of the few venison dishes my wife loves. Strange, I never notice a different smell cooking the neck. -

Slow cooked neck is one of my favorite cuts. Try it osso buco style. -
Why would you have any mounts done or take photos if bucks are nothing more than a meat source for you? Mounting a deer is something trophy hunters do because they are particularly proud of the bigger bucks they have taken. I am guessing the bucks you mounted were the bigger ones you shot too. Seems like hypocrisy to me, but perhaps I am missing something here. I hunt for meat but also big antlers and not surprisingly, the better bucks are the deer I mount. BTW - if you are posting photos of deer that others shot, its best to clarify that.

Definitely a brawler. Congrats!

Happy BDay!

Considering that you prefer to shoot younger deer and are not a trophy hunter (in fact prefer young bucks), why keep the photos (or the head and cape)? Do you take photos of the little guys you target? Are these your bucks or bucks from your group? Serious questions. Seems odd that someone that is so anti-trophy hunting keeps photos of the bigger bucks that they had no choice but to shoot so as not to waste a tag.

Only you know the deer pop in your area. We have shot a lot of doe on one specific property over the past 4 years. This year the doe pop is noticeably down. We need to lay off for a year or two there. That said, I saw more big bucks searching this year than ever before on that property.

Larry 302 is supposed to teach me how to kill a deer this morning. Alas the deer are not cooperating. -
I like to have the last word, like everyone else I guess. Lol. Your turn. Good luck tomorrow. Probably won't see a thing myself but if I do, I will be doing some herd management.

Ha. You just upped the ante. I am in.

Congrats! That's awesome. You sure it's not just sleeping though. Lol -
I am just waiting for someone to concede and admit the other side is right. Isn't that how these threads usually end, by convincing the other side with the brilliant irrefutable facts and rationale? Lol i am going to go shoot a button and monster buck tomorrow so everyone (or no one but me) is happy.
