Don't wax over the serving, just string and work it in lightly. I don't use cam lubricant. I have lubed rockers with Vaseline, but you need to pull the bow apart to do this. And, for what its worth, you don't need to wax every time you shoot your bow. Every couple of months is plenty.
-
Never mind. Thought you were shooting 270 with a bare bow recurve or longbow.
-
Are you shooting a fixed crawl or string walking? My scores jumped from 230s to 260s when I learned to string walk, but I know some purists hate the idea.

I love hunting here, including the changing weather as season progresses. No, its not the trophy land of a few other states, but good population, good action and the chance to take a decent buck works for me. The late season snowy MZ hunts are as fun as bow season.
-
Not surprisingly, I agree with Doc. lol Here is how I think about it, if I draw the bow and think "I hope I can make this shot" then I better not shoot. If I think "dead deer", then I shoot. Anything less than complete confidence (and that varies by person and situation) is a no shot in my book.

It was nice meeting you FE. Glad I could help.

So regardless of all of the doe only controversy in my area, I am still getting anxious to sit in a stand. I am not even low on meat. I just am looking forward to a fun season. Fishing is over and my wife has already resigned herself to my absence for the next 3 months, so I guess I am ready. Need to get my 6yr old daughter in a double stand this year. She is looking forward to it. Hopefully we can make it exciting for her again like when phade knocked down 2 doe last year 2 minutes after I texted him that Natalie was ready "to go look for the deer."

How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?

I am jealous of you guys that hunted in these types of camps. Sounds like fun. We have a great time now, but it's hunting and head home for the night. Looking forward to IA next year to enjoy the full comraderie. -
272 is my best. I regularly shoot 260s but we will see if it holds up on deer. Lol. Nyantler is 100 percent correct. Arrow drop is huge from 20-40yds by comparison to a compound. Like 6" from 20-25. Limits distance for me as judging minor differences in distance is critical and unless I mark 25-30-35, it's tough to do.

Its early Grizz. If you have doe around, the bucks will come. Bachelor groups are just starting to break up. We have one parcel that never heats up with good bucks until late Oct, but they come every year. One other parcel has good bucks all summer and not much come season. Hang in there and stay positive. If you are feeling a bit down, just look at your trophy wall. lol

To be clear NFA, I am not saying its unethical. What I am pointing out is that there is a much greater risk in a bad outcome due to circumstances out of the hunter's control at long ranges. Its up to the hunter to decide what level of risk they are comfortable with. I am not criticizing, just pointing out what factors I weigh and it doesn't have anything to do with my accuracy limits. BTW - I am starting this season with a barebow recurve, so I certainly understand being willing to take some additional risk. My realistic limits are 40yds with a compound and 25yds with a recurve. That's where I have little doubt that I should kill the deer I shoot at. Even circumstances outside of my control should have little effect (not none but minimal). Even then, no one is perfect. I do shoot to 60 with a compound regularly and accurately, but don't plan on shooting a deer at that distance. That's just my preference.
-
To each his own on how far he/she can shoot accurately, but even a bow slinging an arrow at 300fps (which most don't when set up for hunting) takes a full second for the arrow to travel 100yds or 3/4 of a second for the arrow to travel 75yds from release. This doesn't account for the arrow slowing down in flight which means real life is longer. That is a lot of time for a deer to move between release and hit/miss. I think that unpredicted movement is the biggest factor that weighs against long shots. It doesn't matter how proficient/accurate you are with a bow, that risk remains. I know its done out west regularly and maybe that is a risk they can/must take due to the style of hunting.

Wow, nice shot. I have a 220, but can't imagine shooting it to near 300yds. What was the hold over at that distance?

How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?

Grampy you are welcome to hunt with us anytime. Great attitude. We had a guest come out with us last and he said "don't worry, I won't shoot any of your big bucks." We were all laughing telling him he better shoot a big one if he has the chance. -
whats your opinion? couple grainy pics
moog5050 replied to Perry136's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I would shoot him. He is at least 3.5 or older IMO. No idea on score. -
My buddy had one on his property in redcreek last year. His uncle took a photo from the stand.
-
Fishing is down a bit but it's like someone from IA complaining about a bad deer season. Still far better than most places.
-
Congrats. I am sure you will love it
-
Biz Did you throw it on craigslist? At least there, it area specific.

How Many Acres Do Think Is Enough To Hunt On?

Integrity is what it is. You either have it or don't. The amount of horn doesn't matter. I truly believe this and if you aren't certain your friends are the same, you need new friends. BTW - the temptation to act contrary to what you know is right comes in many forms and a big buck is, by far, one of the lesser forms. Its a freakin deer. lol Note - Belo, not questioning your integrity, I just don't understand the idea that some big horns are going to cause an otherwise upright person to act without integrity. There are a heck of a lot of bigger temptations in this world than antlers. -
No luck last day. No complaints though, it was a fun season. Phade caught a solid 14+ lb brown his last time out. On to chasing the elusive big buck.
-
Jeremy his point is that if you want your bow shooting its best (most forgiving and efficient) you should be doing the same tuning whether you shoot mechanicals or fixed. In fact, I shoot rage, but still use big fixed blade heads to help tune my bows.
-
I have owned and tuned many models of both Elite and Obsession. For whatever reason, the obsession are far easier for me to get a good bareshaft tune. I think it may be the split limbs. IMO, they have very similar characteristics otherwise (including smooth draw with crazy let off), with the obsession tending to have more speed in comparable models. I currently own an Obsession Phoenix and Evolution. Models I have owned from Elite include Z28, hunter, pulse and judge. Again, only IMO, I think Obsession has a slight advantage now, but both are great bow manufacturers and you are not likely to be disappointed with either. Disclaimer - I have not shot or tuned a new Synergy or E35/32. One other thing just came to mind, most people have a love or hate relationship with Elite grips, I don't see as much negative chatter about obsession grips. Both worked fine for me.

Val, you are not simply adjusting for BH POI, rather you tune so that the BH and FP have the same POI. Once you tune a bow so that FP and BHs hit the same via whatever method you choose (walk back, French, bareshaft), any BH or FP at the same weight should have the same POI theoretically. If it doesn't the issue is the BH, not the tune. You should not have to tune a bow for each specific BH Val.
