  1. Lol. This is how you properly transport deer. Nice call JJB
  2. This guy popped out of a stand of pines and was heading in the wrong direction. At 66yds I decided to grunt which turned him around. He came back to about 40 but had no shot. Started to leave again so I grunted and snort wheezed. Why not. And low and behold he came back and two my left for a 32yd shot. We have several cam shots of him. I actually told phade I would be happy to shoot him. Big bodied and named him tank. Not the biggest of those we have on cam but I couldn't be happier. First time I truly called a buck in.
  3. No idea if he shot after legal time, but keep in mind that it was dark early yesterday due to the weather, at least around here. I hope he finds his deer.
  4. What really grinds me are people that do not treat their pick-up like they should, with a carpet in the bed for proper protection and wrapping a deer in a tarp so as not to soil the carpet. It literally keeps me awake at night.
  5. There are some big well protected bucks over there near Kodak park. I couldn't hunt next to a cemetery though.

Whatever you did, looks like it worked. Tell us the secret.
  7. All depends on the availability of DMPs. I am pretty much guaranteed 4 DMPs where I hunt. Prefer to hold the Bow/ML antlerless in the event I hunt outside of 8h.
  8. JFB - my impression was that UA runs a bit small, just as an FYI. I have core4element rain gear. Its light and reasonably formfitting, but definitely not warm.
  9. My recollection was that it is turned on in the new phones unless you opt out. I hadn't set up anything and it was on but you should confirm. Saved me $600.
  10. It works, I found my iphone in the middle of woods last year when I dropped it.
  11. Mike at Heritage in Phelps is a great guy
  12. Not sure about state police, but that policy appears to apply to DEC officers. Follow the link back to the beginning at the top. It discusses staff authority etc., including poaching etc. AND the 4th Amend concerns are the same. That said, I spent a whopping 3 minutes looking it up.
  13. I too would allow someone to recover deer on my property as long as it wasn't a constant problem or dealing with a bad egg.
  14. For your reading pleasure: http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/58846.html DEC has their limits too.
  15. If that happens Grow, I would consider dropping the weight for season. Practice the rest of the year with it heavier and then adjust prior to season. Maybe drop 8lbs or so. You should be able to draw anytime, even without warming up IMO. You will not be happy if it happens when a bruiser comes in and you haven't warmed up so to speak.
  16. You do realize the person giving you the warning (not legal advice) is also a law clerk in the appellate division fourth department. Someone getting hurt on posted land vs. being hurt by a trap you set are two different scenarios. Win or lose in litigation, you are opening yourself up to the risk. Some other highly visibly obstruction with warnings would be a much better option.
  17. I would use the ml/bow antlerless tag unless you have a DMP for the area. Use that first as the ml/bow tag can be used statewide. NO DMP for that WMU, then use the ml/bow antlerless tag. For the OP - on Nov. 1, you can apply for a DMP for your upstate area if they are available.
  18. Yep Grampy. We have a few stands and 2 specific properties that we are holding off for another week or so. Good luck to you too!
  19. I believe those that volunteer for Deer Search can finish one off with a gun.
  20. My property is 60 percent cattail marsh. It is hard hunting but of the five parcels we hunt, this property consistently has the biggest bucks, if you can get on them. It sounds like you are set already, but hunting the transition lines and points are great. In my experience, the cow like trails are usually doe and not frequented much by bucks until rut. Watch for lesser trails downwind of the big trails for the bucks. The small islands in the marsh are preferred bedding so treat that area as such and don't blow into it. Also, be careful with thermals as the cooler swamp will draw scent in. Bring your milkweed to constantly check wind and thermals. Sit between bedding (cattails) and food source with wind to food in evening (even better if on a point or finger of higher ground in the marsh). One tip, if you need to cut a trail in cattails, use a full piece of plywood, lay it on the cattails, walk on it and then flip it over and repeat. It knocks down the tails and leaves a bed to walk on. its hard work but way better than cutting. Also, the deer already know the higher ground in the marsh so their trails tell the tail before you step waist deep in water and muck. Be careful, deep bogs can be scary.
  21. I get the impression that those of us that don't hunt moose or elk regularly always opt for a bigger caliber. 30-06 should do just fine and still be a good deer caliber. Plus, easy to find ammo.
