  1. Thanks to First light for starting this thread and the advice provided by all. I finally cut the cord and am thrilled with it. Much easy that I thought and saving approx. $80/mo with access to most of the same stations. Last step is to install my own router and nock another $8/mo from roadrunner. Thanks for the kick in the pants. For those on the fence, give it a try. I really like it. It also cures you from mindless channel surfing since you need to pick a program and actually watch it.
  2. Sounds like a great day and you have that buck pegged. He will be back
  3. Nice buck Wooly. Congrats.
  4. Bring a first year hunter out hoping to see him take his first deer. Set him up in our best stand for deer sightings. I sit a new stand about 70yds away downwind of him to ensure I don't mess it up for him. Don't I have all heck break loose with 2 bucks squaring off and chasing a doe with 2 fawn all around my stand for 1/2 an hour. Phade sits 150yds away sees six doe and the new hunter doesn't see a thing. Ugghhh. Frustrating but I guess that is hunting. The one buck was a decent 2.5yr old. It would have been a great first buck for the new hunter. Maybe tomorrow morning. 2 sits now for the new guy and he is the only one not seeing deer. Not doing well trying to guess the best stand for him so far. Perhaps it's throw a dart time.
  5. That is a great buck. Good for him!
  6. Yep - watch out for those shaggy bark trees, I have slid a bit before myself.
  7. My early season (above 45 degree) jacket is core4 mountain mimicry, my later bow hunting jacket is predator fall gray and my really cold temp jacket is realtree. I wear whatever pants/bibs are clean but most are realtree. I started by being fashionable with matching camo, but have devolved into wearing whatever makes sense temp wise and is reasonably clean. The deer don't seem to care whether I look fashionable or not when I shoot arrows at them.
  8. a. 4.5 or older b. 3.5 c. 3.5
  9. I have an alarm on my watch set for the precise second of sunrise and sunset. To keep my fellow hunters apprised of start and stop time, I blow an air horn when the alarm goes off. Then no one needs to apply common sense. Works great! And, for some unknown reason, I never run into deer when exiting my stand. My guess is that the deer must innately know the scheduled times.
  10. True but some bows are adjustable from like 25 to 70. I have no idea on that PSE.
  11. 5g/lb is the minimum. I wouldn't go lower than you are. you wouldn't like see much difference in trajectory until after 30yds in any event. Then again, I prefer heavy arrows. 530g for 80lbs compound and 600g plus for 52lbs with the recurve.
  12. Apexer Sounds you like did far more than most would. The only additional thing I can think of is to stop by today and see if you see crows circling. I would guess liver with dark red blood, but it could be a high muscle shot too. Don't let it deter you from getting back to hunting. I think everyone that bow hunts for any period of time will lose a deer at some point. The doe I lost first season hunting was gut shot and even after two days of searching, including deer search, we never found it. It happens.
  13. So I have been annoyed with cable costs for a while and this thread prompted me to finally give streaming a try. Went with a mofu antenna for local, and the roku 3 plus sling with HBO for the rest. Already subscribe to Netflix and amazon prime. Called yesterday and cancelled cable. Should save over $100/mo. Let's see how it works out. Gotta admit, I will miss the rest of the season of Homeland on SHO, but they seem to post it later on Netlfix so I can catch it at some point.
  14. I do have the attachments for my grinder to stuff (I think you or Culver suggested the grinder last year and it works great). But, I also heard without a press, its slow and you get too much air in the casing. Eventually I will spring for a press because I want to try making cured sausages, but no rush as I prefer patties anyways. Thanks. You probably have your own perfected recipe already but this was really good.
  15. Funny, didn't know what this was called but I often shoot while or after weight training. I figured if you can hit the bullseye when tired and breathing heavy, you should be OK even if a deer pushes that heart rate a bit.
  16. Made my first batch ever yesterday and it came out awesome. Did 30lbs, mostly Italian but some breakfast and my family loved both. Don't have a press yet, so I stuck with patties. The recipes came from: http://www.free-deer-hunting-tips.com/articles/best_tasting_venison_sausage.htm If you don't already have a secret family recipe, I highly recommend these. The only change I made was to use a 2 to 1 (rather than the recommended 1.5 to 1) mix of venison to pork butt to keep the fat content a bit lower.
  17. You need to split string and then tie it in. I would suggest a shop if this is all foreign to you.
  18. My peep is 5" above my nocking point. Easy way to check. Put it in the string between 4.5 and 5" above nock. Draw and anchor with eyes closed and open eyes. You should be looking through peep if it is the right height. If not, adjust from there.
  19. Just finished my first ever batch of venison Italian sausage. 30lbs so I hope it's edible. Good luck out there folks
  20. Passed on the first shooter buck of the year thanks to the doe only rule. Guess I am destined for a better shooter. Lol. Don't even have a bow just video cam and the cam stinks in even shady light as I learned this morning. No video either. Oh well. Wasn't busted so hope I seem him again. Good Intel I guess.
