  1. I have and get one for every 5 shots or so...they do not call me dead eye for nothing. I no longer have dogs and have just moved into the delhi area and so far have not found any good public land to hunt. Now if you want to go to North Pharsalia state land there is lots of grouse in the area, old apple trees in the fields etc, they even made a section for holding grouse. But the cover is very hard on you and the dog.
  2. I lived in the town of North Pharsalia and there is about 29,000 A's of state hunting land in the area. WHen I had my dog's I sure could still find some white rabbits in the area were they had logged and had new red pine coming up that was in the 4 to 5 ft range. The location that I hunted was off of route 23 in the town of north pharsalia and the road was ( I am not kidding ) One eye road. I would hunt past one had been the old CCC camp, lots of pine, would always get several runs each day. good luck, not bad bow hunting in the area, also lots of old apple trees in the hard wood and they also have one piece that was replanted for grouse hunting birds.
  3. What size peep do you use for hunting ? I use the 1/4 inch size and go to the 3/16 size for spots or indoors...both are tru peeps
  4. How many fletch your own arrows ??? what size fletch do you use ??? feathers or plastic ???? I have both made up, I am using now the Bohning 2 inch broadhead fletch and also the special 2 inch feathers.. Both work well out of my WB rest or the 360 rest, both are full containment rest.
  5. Sine I fell a few years ago and broke my right leg in 9 places it is not longer up into the trees. One of the tips I have if you like to try ground blinds is get a package of the burlap camo material from Walmart ( $14), a 25 ft cotten line rope ($3) and a package of cloth pins... I put this in my XL pack, and when I walk into a new area if I see a [place that has good sign I can just pull the burlap camo material, put the rope around some small tree's and then attach the camo material with the cloth pins. Setup time is less than 5 minutes and you are ready to hunt. I also carry on a strap a foldup chair and carry in the backpack a 17 inch bow hanger. I also will cust some small brush and attack to the setup with the clot p[ins to the rope. try it and you may find it works very well.
  6. I see that the Whitney point sportment are having a 3D shoot at there club. They have 40 targets setup and have made the course into 2 20 targets setup. So you can stop back at teh club house to have a bite and cold drink and then shoot the 2nd half. They also put on one of the best breakfast around. Bill
  7. I like to shoot the bag target I have for sighting in the bow. But for fun I sure enjoy the 3D's. I shot today and shot a total of 27 targets, made up of 80% deer, 5% coyote, 5% cougar, 10% bear. (I shot almost all clean and in the kill area. I did have one of the closer targets where I shot high and it would have been a lung hit.
  8. I came to NYS to shoot the NFAA at Watkins glen in 1970 for the first time. They had 4 courses of 28 each targets on each range. The fire tower had a flag of just NYS archery NFAA clubs and it had over 150+ clubs. This seems to me to be the top of the time for clubs. I am not saying theat 3D has not kepp us going. But I do feel we now have a changing ability of time to the archer and archer family. We use to set up all shoots that the family would attend, even plan on games for the kids, meals, and it was a all day affiar. With at the end of the shoot all would stay to see who was the top shooters. Now it get me in and out. Want to join a club, heck no, got no time. Bill
  9. So Chopper were is the camp and how many members ? We all I think start to get into that mental state of when is the start of hunting ? foor me I have never missed getting my hunting tags on the first day they go on sale. But two years ago I got a lifetime licence.
  10. I use a star and then a blunt that screwss thru the center of the star. It is similar to what you use but flys better. I even keep one of these alway on the bow . Mid morning some times a grouse will walk by and or rabbit...I seem to miss but it keep you awake..
  11. Mine was a Ben person in 45 lbs, got at the local hardware store for $ 29.85 cents. * years later I got my first compound in 1969 a Jenning 4 wheel bow for $389 dollar, alun 24srt easton arrow $22 sight $7 springy rest $6 .....
  12. taking a 5 year old buck that had a body weight of over 200 lbs and was checked by the DEc and was told the buck was a true mature buck 5 years old and was 8 point .
  13. I have done it just like you for year. I do treat it like a great piece of beef. The key for me is the outside temp and I try to get the hide off Asap.
  14. good luck I sure went for zero last year. number 1 was a person who owned a piece of land on the road I live, we found the owner was out of state, send him a letter telling him who we were, I own the land across from him and built a home there two years ago. I asked permission to bow hunt. I gave him my email, phone and address and asked him to reply to me with approval ofr non approval with 30 days or I would coindier it was ok. The land did not have any poster on it and the year prior ZIsaw several hunters putting drives on the land. Nothing came to be, I gopt ready for the opening of bow season and put a blind on the land with a plastic hair init as I am physical challenged hunter. The day prior to opening of hunting season, a guy drove up and said he was the caretaker and I did not have permission to hunt and if found I would be taken to court. I told him I had a blind up and would take down that same day which I did. number 2 Our back pasture runs into another piece of land that has easy access by car. I stopped and asked permission to hunt and or could if I got a deer drag it down to were I could drive my car up his road to pick up the deer. I got permission to pickup the deer but again no hunting permission. He no longer hunts but keep it for family only hunting. so good luck
  15. I am walking the area I hunt to see if the movement pattern has changed. I shoot the bow about 5 times a week for about 40 minutes. I got a new Parker bow that I am sighted in and it sure seem to get a arrow into the spot.
  16. I use to have pee bottles on my stand to use during the day but now pee by walking off just about 20 yards. and see no change at all. A study was done on pee by the buckmaster stump hunters and found even pee in a scrape and it would also attact bucks... I seem to think that pee is pee and it breaks down in just a short period.
  17. In my area if you can find a buck it is young spike or 4 point at the most.
  18. How can it be growing ? The way the system is now you have a tag for any spamp you buy plus for each hunter the doe permits are always more than the area require, plus if you use up all your tags, get a buddy to sign over his... now tell me just how the DEC has any idea of what is the deer herd level ? they use the same numbers year after year. We asked them to put as part of getting a licence you have to fill out via the system a small sampling of questions on did you hunt last year, what area, numbers of days, amount of deer you saw, did you take a deer, what was it, and a other were the hunter could type in concerns. This would be a start of a real time system, so that doe permits was used to keep the herd in top shape. If I could I would fire 100% of the DEc top management, they are no help to the hunter or the deer herd they should be protecting.
  19. I AM FOR it except for youth hunter to get them into our sport and or senior's (over 65 )to keep them hunting.
  20. I staertr think of the season on the day after the last day of the prior year. I love ti go into the woods when snow goes off and look for breeding scrapes, then I like to shoot with my recurve and blunts and just walk the area I hunt for some stump shooting. Each time out I use it to see if I can pick up any changes that will effect the deer during the season.
  21. I use to be in the AF with some people that would get these type of dreams. But it must have been what they were drinking or smoking...
  22. Is there any7 good piecces of state land for hunting in the delware county area ???
