they had a shoot on the TV of trad hunting pigs down in TX and after seeing them shoot I sure got the itch to shoot so off I went with my setup speical fiberglass shaft, that have 1916 alum full inch on the tips of the arrows with blunts. You can put then off of a brick wall and they just hit and drop. Not bend or broken. I walked for about a 1 1/2 hours and killed at a minumn 100 stumps, leaves and trees. I am getting to be a killer at under 15yards

try the loop and if you find you do not like you can always cut off...

I would suggest find a bow pro shop that is close to your home and has a indoor range. I would want the shop to measure me for draw length. I would then ask them did they have any used bow that I could try to see if I found one tht felt good in my hand. I would want to setup the bow for a peak weight range of 50 to 60 lbs. You did not say if you are a big guy or small. I would want to make sure the bow is setup on the light side to start with. I would go with a 1/2 doz carbon arrows, a pack of 3 Bh's in fixed blade at 100 gr weight, a fiber optic sight ( 3pin ) that I would sight in for 10, 20, 30 yards, a whisper biscutt rest or any other brand full containment rest, a 1/4 inch peep and a bow quiver.

not only a safety issue of using a power tool on a peep, but the cost of a new bow string. I had a customer come in and ask do I need a new string ? he had done just above put a 1/4 bit in and tried to drill the peep out. A sting was made of 14 strands and he was done to I guessed about 6 strands so the cost to him was $35 dollars to replace the string and set it up...

All I am saying is that you have the one time per year you are buying your tags etc and the DEC sure could use that time to have a mini survey to get real time data from the hunter. Not all hunters do report there game they took. But also they do not have to report at that time how many hours they spent hunting. and what was the toal deer they saw. I hunted as example a total of 75% of all days available with the bow and gun both. I saw a total of 9 deer in that time. I did not take a deer with either bow or gun and or doe permit.

Doc you will take my place on the hit list for the DEc.. do they have it right, no, and If I could I would fire the top mangement at the DEC. I would want a total change in how they develop there logic on hunting limits and the number of doe permits. Just to show what a level of poor performance at the top. I went to them with a valid I felt question on when lumber is taken off of a state hunting area, why is not the funds that the state gets used then to reforrest and make food plots. They come into the North Pharsalia area and toop out red pine for almost 1000 A's of land, they cut the tops off and just let them in the area, makes the area not able to hunt and or even walk thru. There anwer is after 10 years or so the tops will rot out and this is the natural event. No the vendor taking the trees have no contact to reforrest and ot reseed and the dollards go all to a general fund ( NYC )

At every meeting with the Dec on hunting it has been suggested they have as part of your getting a licence you have to discuss were you hunted the prio year, did you take a deer, how many deer did you see and other factors that could be used by the DEC for real time analysis of what they should be doing i.e. reduce doe permits and or increase them. but nothing is done by the dec...they report the herd size as the same as reported in the 1970's.

good shooting I also had a buddy over and we started shooting 3d's at 730 am. It sure was to warm, I did great with my hoyt compound but If I could shoot like you steve I would be shooting my checkmate recurve.

I have 2 bows still are connet direct to string and 4 now setup with the loop. As I never had tuning or serving breaking I still not finding the loop is so special. I just got 50 loop material to have, may last me the rest of my life to use. The do not think the ultra nock is the way to go, they tell me it adds to much weight to the string and this will reduce the overall performance of the bow and speed of the bow.

sure sound like my place. I started out just being a archer and then I started to make custom arrows, that led to one road in the house, next it grew to a double car garage, also started with 1 3D deer target, now a total of 45 3D's or 2D's. Now retired the archery business but have 6 compound bows that are mine, 4 recurve bows,1 wife bow, and grand kids bow 2.

I do the same thing. Baking soda is wha tI use to wash the huntng togs. I also carry a small package in my back pack and use if I get sweated up on the walk in etc. I also put in the final rinse cycle about 4 oz of apple juice. I then let the hunting togs dry outdoors and then pack in the walmart plastic totes. I have 4 of them and it keep the hunting togs from getting any household scents on them. -
Hi I am now located near Oneonta NY. I have a small piece of land to hunt of only 26 A's, but there is several other state land within a hour ride. I bow hunt, gun hunt but no longer can go for the small game. I am a older hunter 68 years young. I shoot the bow about 5 times a week and about a 1/2 hour at a time. Love the woods in the fall but also let them walk unless it is a good buck. I no longer shoot doe's as were I am the deer herd has been down from over hunting. We seem to get a lot of the brown is down gang were I live.

Steve great looking crest and liek the way you built your crester. I see you are from my old stamping grounds, I finished USAF service at Stewart AFB and married a girl from Walden NY. I got hired at IBM at Fiskill and was there for about 5 years till I moved down south to setup a new PLant at Manassas Va. The Hudson valley is one of the best places I use to love to hunt. Lots of good hard woods, and it use to be lots of easy areas to get permission to hunt. I also was a member in 1965 of the Walden sportment club, they had a lot of the farms open to club members...I am a recurve shooter and love to shoot it. But for hunting I got back to my compound bows with sight, kisser, peep, and release. I just never got good with the recurve, I have tired and tried. I got past 20 yards and two arrows never go to the same place.

the DEC use to let about 20 + birds out a day prior to opening day of the season in North pharsalia Ny. Maybe 300 yards from my house, by the very next weekend the birds would be killed off. A very small % to hunters, but most be run over, or the coyote have a fu ll belly. I had 3 for a full 5 months I would feed from my bird feeders. But come sprink they finally left .

I no longer have any dogs. But the hunting of rabbits with a good dog is sure a lot of fun. I see not a lot of rabbits anymore. Is sit due to the way farmers farm ? or is the problem with coyotes ? I use to have a pack of 4 days and would use one at a time during the hunt day to keep them fresh. We also would use with snowshoes on white rabbits in Delware / chenago county piece of state forrest.

I sss on archerytalk.com a lot of guys saying they aree a great new bow mfg. But I also see a lot of people that are waiting for several weeks to get one. There price is in the range of some of the PSE models, Bear, and also Martin. But is cheaper by about 150 dollar lower than the Hoyt or Mathews..

Do anyone else still do any home cresting of arrows? I made a cresting maching out of a walmart hand mixer, cut one beater off at 2 inch from the machine and have a board with 4 eye hooks. I pust the arrow thru the eye hooks, attach the rubber band from the arrow shaft to the single beater and turn it on...the cost was under $10 bucks to make. I also get the cresting paint from walmart at about $1 a bottle. I do for both traditional arrows and also on my compound arrows.
-
Doc I have the same fletcher and it is a Jan Jan fletcher I also have a Bitzberger for single arrow fletching with a lw jig for LW feathers .
-
Now this sound stupid but with the traditional recurve bow I have both eye open. But with the compound and I use a kisser and a 1/4 inch tru peep in the string I draw with both eye open and as I put my head down to use the peep I do close one eye. Just like I do with a rifle scope. If you can keep both eyes open they say you will have a better overall sight for distance etc. Your problem withthe jerk I do not think was part of the eyes, that seem to be more in line with target panic.

I fish right outside of route 17 in the town of Vestal and have a ball fishing for them...

I sure when I read your post will have to wait till next week and I think I will take a ride to fish it. This is one of the best areas to fish for just fun, the area I fish is were it runs into the beaverkill. There are several pools up the west branch that hold some good fish. I take my fly rod, try to match the hatch and then beat the water with my line. As you can tell I sure am not a Pro, just a old fart 68 that loves fishing, bow hunting and gun hunting. This also is were my Dad first took me to fish as a young guy about 9 years old.

I never did a good job in the woods so I picked one up 3 years ago and it sure works . SO it now is part of my backpack that I carry into the woods.

I try with mu bow if I see one in the area. so far I get one or two per year.
