  1. do you know of any bow / gun clubs in delware county that has opening for membership. please post name of club and contact info.. my thanks or send to me direct at [email protected]
  2. the key is going up and taking the time to do the scouting of the area. If you find the deer sign, deer trails and the food source and bedding areas in the area you plan on hunting you should do well but it takes time. The overall deer herd is down from the high point of the mid 80's but they have in the last few years reduced the number of doe permits so the herd is starting to come back.
  3. 11 lbs so far. But now they tell me the best you can do is about a 1 lb a week and some weeks you may even add a LB back. The good news at the doctor this past friday is that I will not have to have the double artery opened and reamed out. I have 55% blockage in both the left and right artery but the flow is considered normal at this time. So I just have to go for a yearly doppler test. I had the left done 3 years ago and in that period it has become 55% blocked, they also now have me on new meds that may help break down the blockage.
  4. I was a member of a great hunting club that purchased a old farhouse in the 70's that was next to 7500 acreas of state land. It was a good time and like all clubs you got about 20% are active and use the place and also are the worker bees. They did not have a issue with you having other come for a weekend. The only time was the opening week of gun and that was for memeber only and or family as a guest. They did have bi laws thaqt seem to work well. One of them was make sure you have permission from all posted lands, if you are found on them you are out of the club. We did not want any problems with local owners. We all would make up xmas cheer baskets for all on are small road to thank them for checking out our house to see if we had weather problem or breakin...
  5. I have several wild apple trees and the apples are starting to fall off. This may be also due to the lack of rain in the late July and early August period...
  6. any hunting clubs in Delware county NY that are open to new members ? Bill
  7. I also got none and both requests were for high numbers of permits. so I have to wait a year...
  8. in years past when I was a member of a hunting club it was alway hard to do as so many times there are new people that do not know the woods and can be a problem. I now have a bunch of guys from the city next door to me and they love to put on drives with there 4x4. They put guys on the end with either bows or rifles and then drive. this action sure seems to be not the way I like to hunt. The issue of safety is also a major problem if you have guys that will take anything and brown is down. I see to many hunting accidents due to this type actions. I may be one guy that feels with the gun season you should be required to have some orange on your person. I use the orange camo and it has not been a problem with the deer.
  9. good looking bow and setup. Are you using 400 carbon and 3 five inch fletch....I still have the alum in 1916 that just seem to fly very well and I did make up some carbon a doz and they also work well out of my bows. What I do not understand is why so many of the traditional archers go to the carbon and then have to add weight to get them back into the range of what the alum arrows did weight ? I added some .243 80 gr copper bullets in back of the arrow point insert, to see if the bow would have any changes I sure did not seem to find any change that was a must, seed was down a little at 25 yards and the only thing was a higher FOC... Bill
  10. I have ths ingle man ladder stand and they work very well. I put a chain and lock on this one and leave on our land yearly. The deer just seem to walk on by. I do have to trim out the area every other year or so. I think they sure are a lot safer than me build with wood.
  11. I use to do the same thing to get redy to hunt the big birds on kings ferry area. We would sign in and get some of the areas with cut corn next to the lake and hope the birds with come in. I only had 2 doz decoys. But I found they seems to like beans field as well as the corn.
  12. Being fit to hunt or how can I lose 52 lbs. It seems over the years I have gained a total of 40 lbs. I played bnoth football / baseball in HS and went into service at 231 lbs. After basic I was down to 218. I went for my yearly physical and am 68 years young and the weigh in told the story of two many years of eating like I was still playing sport at 18 years old but being retired just sitting around to many days. The story is the doctor put together a plan that I call weight watchers type of requirement with the goal to lose a 1 lb most weeks and that I could be down by 40 lbs in a year time. So far I have lost 11 lbs. I have also increase my physical level to support the change in diet as well. I am trying to shoot a 32 target 3D course each morning. It takes about a 1 1/2 hour period. Has some up and down hills and seems to be a lot of fun as well. Nopw for the change in food I have to say the key is staying on the diet and to that it means my ears seem to be growing to a rabbit length. I never was one that was big for lettuce, but now seem to like it. ( better than nothing ) We also now have red meat only once a week. I sure miss those cheeze burgers. Or ham and cheeze on rye. Our amount of bread has decreased by over 50%. I also lost 2 inches off the belly so far. Is anyone wlse trying to get back in shape, how are you doing it and or what is your goals for being fit for hunting ???
  13. I have never used one as I just stayed with my slider sight with a .0029 fiber optic pin. But if you get the other type they have maybe 3 brands and they all are good. Except in bad wather were you have freezing rain . That seems to be a problem with them not working well.
  14. If I am lucky I get them the last week of Oct ( the chase period and or the first week of Nov ( start of rut )
  15. I sure miss the Oct 15 as the date each year and let it start in the middle of the week and also the start of gun being the 3rd monday in November. Use to love going to hunt camp on the weekend prior to opening and sighting in, and doing some last minute scounting and seeing all the guys... I suse was hoping that the DEC would give use a few more weeks in the early Oct to bow hunt. I think PA / CT open in the middle of Sept. Seems strange as the DEC pushs archers season to make room for BP or crossbows there is no consideration on just opening up the season date. In Maryland they have the season open in Sept and close the last day of Jan for archery...
  16. that is a hot bow, let us know how you make out and maybe post a photo of your setup...
  17. I not longer can user tree stand. But in the p[ast as well as now with ground blinds I always would stand to take the shot.
  18. going to shoot this morning 32 targets of 2D and 3D with my shooting buddy. We use unmarked yardage but try to keep all shots from 35 yards and closer. As in all our years by hunting in the woods we never have got a shot over 30 yards. We do shoot target practice out to 50 yards. This is with our compounds, if I am using my recurve I try to keep all shots under 20 yards.
  19. I have had zero luck and am using the horn bag and I also have a set of horns. I always tried in the rut, but maybe I should start in the early season ?
  20. looks good. I tried the light up nocks and had little luck with them. I put one on my target arrows and just after shooting it 6 times it would not work.
  21. sits in trees I concur 100% with you. I sure do not hunt like some of the other hunters but have no problem as long as they are doing what is within the law. As a younger man I lived in Va and in the tidewater areas they allow the hunting of deer with dogs. I accepted a weekend to try there sport, I found it was not to my way of hunting to put down 10+ dogs and shoot at deer going 10 mile a hours thru the smap with 00 buck shot. They due to poor shots have the dogs take the deer down. I( also have some hunter in the area now that think it is great sport to put on drives with there 4 wheelers to archers in tree stands. It seems to work for them but it not my cup of tea. Myabe it my just being a old fart now, but the taking of the deer seems to be a by product of all those other things that mean a lot to me in archery, the year long shhoting to make sure I have the skill set. The pre season scounting with buddies to see where the best deer sign is. The hunt with good buddies and in year past the hunting club I was a member of to hear all the stories of current and past hunts. They all make up the fiber of lasting hunts.
  22. what is the date for the southern tier opening is it the 10/17 and I did not get a doe tag for gun so when can you try in November to get a unused tag ?????
