  1. good luck with the job.
  2. remington model 1100 with slug barrel and 2 to 5 power scope and remington coppper slugs
  3. I have about 6 so far. But the one I could not believe was one from 25 yards with the recurve bow. Easton did a study one time and on the average it takes +50,000 shots for every robin hood or just bad luck.
  4. As being one of the old fart I like to know what you are shgooting and your bow setup I am 68 year old and am shooting 1. Hoyt peak weight 58 lbs 29 inch draw, carbon easton 400 arrows with 2 inch BH vaanes, 100 gr point, c-10 Winn release, loop, single F/O pin slider sight, 1/4 inch peep and kisser. 2. Parker Buckhunter XP set at 56 lbs , 3 pin sight, Bemen 400 carbon arrows 2 inch BH vanes, 100 gr points, loop, peep, and kisser. 3. Checkmate recurve 56 inch and 50 lbs at 28 inch and actual draw is 28 1/2 inch. I use Easton 1916 alum shaft with 125 gr points, and a tab.
  5. I keep looking at all the new Bow mfg's out there and I have to say it sure seems we must have over 50+ bow mfg now. But when you look at who makes a good bow for the dollar I have to say it sure seems that Parker bows and Martin archery seem to be on the leading edge of a low cost product that has all the bells of the high dollar bow mfg.
  6. I have a different brand a Allen and it is in 125 gr 3 blade and meets all NY requirements. I have taken deer and they sure put a good hole in a deer and sure seem to leave a heck of a hole in the hide. But once shoot they are a bear to keep sharp, you need a good file and hard stone to get a edge.
  7. Doc the old 80,70,60,50 walk up from the NFAA days. My first bow was a browning 70 inch bow in 35 lbs and 1816 alum arrows. When I would shoot the 80 yard I think I held on the top right limb of a tree in back of the target to hit in the 5 ring.... I now have a big bad target setup in back of the house and shoot 25, 35, 45, and 55 yards. Hey in all the years I never have had to shoot over the 25 yard pin on any bow in 40 some years of bow hunting...
  8. I have been using a Winn c-10 glove release the last 10 years or so. I keep seeing that a lot of the hunters are now going to back tension release, do you use one or what brand do you use...
  9. I shoot 3D and also just a large target in the yard. But for just fun I like to take the bow with a set of blunt tips on my hunting arrows and just walk the woods in Sept and just pick a stump, and see if I can hit it with the blunt. As I take my walk I am also doing my pre season scounting. ANy one do this type of get ready activity..
  10. I got mine in June last year. At 67 years young. But the think I do not understand is it lifelong but I will have to buy stamps for archery, BP till I meet the new age of 70...seems lifelong should have ment for any season that is available in the year and not charge any fee's.
  11. I sure have problems with the guys from the city that own the piece of land in back of my place. They seem to think that hunting is putting drives on with 4x4 to push the deer is hunting. They do this even in the bow season. The other think is our stupid DEC changed the law to allow a hunter to sign over his doe permit to someone else. So these guys get a lot of guys who live and work on LI and hunt only there to put in for a doe permit for our local area. If they get one they sign over to these guys. They come in with 10+ permits and brown is down. Then they stop and say " heynot a lot of deer around anymore ". I guess being a old fart (68) I just like being in the outdoor and no longer just the kill. I let a lot of deer go prior to taking a good buck. Has to be 4 points or more. I found two dead deer in our stream area, after the snow melted off. Both look like they were gut shot. That means to me poor hunter follow-up and lack of tracking skill.
  12. I sure think in My area of Franklin this is a big problem. We have found two this year faws that have been eaten in back of my hjouse on the edge of a hay field. Also in the night you can hear the pack running deer or something..
  13. I no longer smoke. But when I did it was 2 packs a day and I even have shot a buck with the bow from a tree stand with a smoke in my mouth. I do no longer think that smoke or even pee is a problem with deer. But human sweat sure can be a killer on your hunt.
  14. A survey was made years ago of what was the average shot that took deer with a bow and it was found that 90% of all deer taken was under 20 yards. They again did the survey when the compound bow came in and guess what was the level of change based on the new type of bow ? stayed the same. I shoot all year long, both 3D, spots, I even have my own outdoor range setup and feel I would not have a problem in the hardwoods of getting a good shot out to about 35 yards. I then feel that the conditions we hunt in would cause me to have maybe a bad hit on the deer due to hitting a twig etc. Now if you ask a guy in the mid west, the flat landers get shots out to 50 to 60 yards and will take game at that distance.
  15. In the 80's in west Va they use to have what they called a extra stamp a hunter could purchase for $5 that would then give you the ability to hunt farms that the local DEC had awarded extra deer damage permits as well as cash due to the amount of damage of a crop. The farmer would be required to allow a place for hunters with the stamp to park and to mark what area they could hunt on his farm and also it could be for only 3 days or less per week. What a great program. We found a very big farm that bordered on North river and had 3 farms, two had nothing but corn and hard woods and the other Apple and hard woods. We hunted this same farm for several years till I moved back North. To bad we due not have this type of program in our state.
  16. sure seems to be in the area of a fox or maybe a coyote.
  17. I use several ground blinds and make the choice of which I will be in based on wind direction and also wather conditions. I have one blind that if it rain or snow always seem to have deer movement off the side hill into the low cover.
  18. I take the period of Jan Feb and March off as we go south to Myrtle beach for the winter. When snow goes off in Oneonta, I check out my 2D's and 3D's target, file in holes, repaint were required and then get them ready for shooting. It takes me about 2 weeks of work. I have a total of 17 shooting location on 26 A's. I have it so each shooting location Has two targets and two stakes. The closer stake is less than 25 yards, for traditional archers and the longer ones is from 20 to 37 yards on the average shot. I shoot 3 times a week on the average. I have two compound younger buddies that we shoot on the weekend and have one 74 year old buddy that we do not miss a middle of the week shoot together. I also go to shoots at Whitney point, and also Oxford. So I try to keep up my archery skill, but now at my age it all just for fun.
  19. Hi I have several guys that shoot with me with compound bow but have yet to find anyone in the area that shoots traditional archery. I am the poorest shoot with my recurve and sure can use some tips. I am on Swart hollow road and have several 2D / 3D targets for us to shoot at...am retired and a old fart 68. that has been shooting most of my life. Still love the sport. send to Bill at [email protected]

Being retired on a fixed income my bow of choice has gone from the top of line hoyt to now a parker buckhunter due cam for under $400 bucks. But I also still have 2 hoyt as backup. I shoot the bow at 58 lbs, 29 inch draw, carbon easton arrow cut to 29 1/2 inch, with 2 inch bohning BH vanes and 100 gr field tip / hunting tip is a fixed 3 blade BH. I do use a slide sight with fiber optic pin, peep kisser, and a wp rest. The release I use is a c-10 by Winn. I also shoot a 50 lb recurve with 1916 alum arrows and 125 gr points and a shooting tab.
