  1. Now Doc it is big business. No like me getting together and going out with a buddy to shoot a few arrows at a 3D meet and or hunting up in back of the house. I guess I now enjoy more the people I am with than a set of horns. But maybe that makes me just a old fart. But I still love the pre hunt, the walking n the woods looking for early fall sign and plan a hunt. But again sure do not need to have a full ton / half truck full of equiptment and 5 guys to take the photo's. I still carry in the back pack my 35 film camera from 1961....
  2. I am sure it does work very well. But baking soda also seem to work well in killing off scent in hunting togs and or even on your own person...
  3. I read your damm post and went the next day to have my yearly physical, after 2 hours there I was setup for a test at the hospital to check me out with have some damm test that you had to drink about a qt of crap, also have some other material pumped into your arm as you then into the MRI machine. Well the good news is they found one small kidney stone, but since it is not giving me any problems they say I may just pass it. So please do not post any more on this medical issue as it can get you just from reading the damm post. Bill
  4. I had a major proble with my being on a fixed income and just being cheap. They had a ammo special on SIlver bear ammo hunting 150 gr in 308 cal.I purchased 100 round or 5 box's. I felt this was a great buy for about the 1/2 cost of buying my old remington ammo. I got ready for hunting season and put a new scope on the gun and went to sight it in. Well I never in my life had a problem with the remington ammon but almost 70% of the silver bear sure would not fire and all ammo showed that the fire pin had hit dead center. I wrote to the seller and got not a thing. I still have it and have to just get rid of it.
  5. I have several bows that I continue to keep and they all work well for me. I use to go about every year and get the new model but now being retired on fixed income it is about every 4 years. The best way to find out what is the bow for you is to go to several bow shops and shoot a lot of the bows, when you get the right one in your hand you will know it. By the way they may have some two years or less old bows that are trades that you can get for a reduced price.
  6. I must be the cheap guy I soot 4 days or more per week and wax the bow string and cable every week. I get about 3 or 4 years out of a set. How about you ????
  7. do you keep the bow quiver on the bow when you get to the stand and or take it off. I take it off as I have found over the years I get better performance from the bow...how about you ?
  8. I use a lot fo ground blinds and use a 50 ft piece of 1/4 inch rope abd a package of cloth pins . I just tie the rope around 3 or four trees and then get out my package of burlap camo material and hang it on the rope. I also then use plastic ties for natural branches to brush the blind in. Since this is on my own land I do this in Spet and leave it in place thru both the bow season and gun. I also have several of the plastic lawn chair from walkmart that I leave at the stand location. I find this works a lot better and cheaper than the popup blinds.
  9. I posted my little piece due to a lot of guys putting on drives that went right past my back door. I then stopped them and asked who gave them permission and the answer was we always was able to hunt this piece. By answer was I now own this piece of land and you have to ask permission to hunt and no hunting within 300 yards of the back door of the house. Plus do not shoot any of my 3D deer on my bow range. Nothing like trying to fill in a slug hole in that new 3D target that just cost me $125 bucks.
  10. I do not longer are in tree stands. But I am always looking to see if we get a big tree knocked over from a storm and can I use it for a natural blind. I also keep looking to see if I see new deer trails to our pasture and we have about 7 A's of cow corn. I got out the camo burlap mater and see I have to pick up a new package as I have one that sure need replacement.
  11. I also keep a log book of hunting etc, were I hunted and did I see game and or weather conditions. IN the mid 70's I think was the best the deer herd was and it has been on the down side was when they started having to many doe permits and take a buck for each tag you buy. Lat year it was more like for every 3 days of hunting I would see a deer. During the bow season for the total time I saw only 3 bucks and none were in shooting range, during gun I never saw a horn. I am retired and hunt each day from a hour prior to sun up to 10 am and then from 3pm to dark.
  12. Doc I think they sure would know there equiptment real weel when it had to keep you in food and or not have your scalp in some teepee...
  13. I usea older 50 cal BP and would like to know what you suggest for the max load.... can you use the rib on the barrel to mount a red dot sight ?
  14. when in the service in the 60's we all used rubber to keep the piece clean. sound like it still is a good idea. The finger cots ( small rubber are great for that use.
  15. I got myt first compound in 1969 a Jennings and have been working on them for a long period of time. I alway tell people that you are better buying new if you can. So that you do not get a bow with problems. Well I did not take my own suggestion. I got on ebay a bow that is a 2009 and was not shot much. I got the bid and the bow came in and it looked like it just came out of a box. But when I went to get it setup the problems started. I setup for a loop, Wb rest, single fiber optic pin slider. Everything looked good except as you shoot you can get out of 8 arrows, 6 inc a one inch spot at 25 yards, but you may get one low by a foot or more or one high by a foot or more. It is a duel cam bow and the cams seem to rool over as they should. I checked the cams, string, cable, and rest for center shot. Well after 2 weeks I now have taken to West End Bow shop in Oneonta and said help. So we will see if he can find what the problem. The only thing I did find was the cable seem to be worn were it is in the cable slider, and seem to make some noise when you draw the bow. I did find one of the screws that you use to take off the bow to change draw length was missing so I replaced it with a 3/16 by 1/4 inch screw from a local harware. Have any of you also got a bow like this ? I had one come into my shop one year were the archer had dropped it from 20 + feet tree stand and it landed on the cam. It was bent as he said just a little. I looked at it and spent the rest of the day calling other dealers to see if anyone had a cam in stock. We finally found one in ENdicott at Neils archery. I sent the guy down and Neil got him back in business.
  16. I use the short 3 blade fixed head in the 100 gr weight. I also like that nothing can go wrong with them copmpared to having a closed in flight that does not open.
  17. one inch low and one inch right so to move to the bull you are saying you would move 16 cliks to the left and also 16 clik up to get the movement up....
  18. I have tried to get them to come in with a rabbit call of a hurt rabbit. so far they win.
  19. that what I also hear. But again I ask and sure do not want a problem in the middle of a hunt if I had not got approval. I am now looking for state lands as it gets to be a real pain to get approval.
  20. I have a 1/2 mask and I also like the camo face paint. But this is a pain to get off.
  21. It is so many years since I have had to do this that here is the stupid question : If your bullet at 25 yards hits one inch low and once inch to the right of the bull do you then 16 cliks ( Up) and then 16 cliks to the right ? so that you do just like with a bow always follow the arrow / bullet...
  22. Do you take to a shop to get it bore sighted in ? Or do you just start at 25 yards to get it on paper and then move to 100 yards ??? I purchased two new scopes after the season last year and will be trying to get them setup for this falll....
  23. some archers just have to have a new one in there hands each year. So they sell them on the e net. I have gotten some good buys, but also got screwed on two, one was a year old left over, that within 4 weeks of my shooting the limbs blew up. I had all kinds of problems getting the mfg to honor the warrenty. The other is a year old bow I just got, it has either a bad cam and cable problem. I got the bow as is and it sure is. Bill
