  1. I clean about 2 times in the mid year and of course a week prior to the opening of the deer season and after the last day of the season as I put them up for anopther year god willing...
  2. I was able to buy last year some solid jacket 303 british ammo. I plan on using the 175 gr ammo for coyote or chucks. Is there a down side for using this type of ammo for plinking or hunting ??? I am sighting in with the ammo to make sure it flys the same as a soft point at 100 yards...
  3. I shoot a chekmate firebird model that is 49 at 28 inch draw and I draw 29 1/4 inch. I also have a set of limbs that are 40 lbs for this bow. I use these for indoor and or working on form. I also have a Samick model that look like the BW MA3 that is 50 lbs at 28 inch. I also have my first bow and that is a Martin hunter that is 50 lb at 28 inch. I shoot all of these with alum 1916 shaft with 125 gr tips and or I also have some 400 spine carbon set up. but I am just a lousy shot. I wish I could find sone one in my area to shoot with. Gets to be to much to just shoot by myself. SO I shoot with several guys my compounds.
  4. I shoot two sets of 8 arrows and then put the bow on the rack and I do this 2 or 3 times a day. I shoot 2 arrows and then walk back and change the yardage. I also have several 3D targets setup at yardage from 15 yards to 40 yards. .
  5. Over the years when I did miss it seems I shoot for the center mass and not take the time to fine tune the shot for a heart shot so for me I now say aim low to score. Now someone may say that you will miss if you aim for the heart as a deer will jump the string, well with these new bows they I think make not a lot of noise and the arrow speed is such that a deer will not be able to jump the string. what is your experience aim low to score or not....
  6. It is the first day of the bow season and a 4 point buck walks under your stand do you shoot ? or just say I have another x number of days of the season "so I will just wait" Now it is 2 more days of the season what do you do now shoot or no shoot ????? I have waited several times and then got nothing but tag soup. SO for me if it is a adult deer I shoot............
  7. I see a lot of the decoys now put a white cloth on the tail and it is about 12 inches long by 6 inches wide. Theis give the tail action of a live doe. A firm I use to buy local deer lure from had a notice that if you apply doe in rut lure to the decoy to make sure you have rubber bloves on whenever you handle the decoy so you do not leave your humen scent on the decoy.
  8. so put a full plug in for the Mohawk trad archers. were are they located ( town or city ) contact for club ? yearly membership costs. Bill
  9. I saw the ad and also saw them used on a hunt. The sure seem to fly good and will give you peneration on angle shots. They also were one of the new archery products that were highlighted at last Jan shot show for dealers as a hot item.
  10. I also shoot traditional just not very good. I have several bows, but my main recurve is a checkmate firebird and next in line is a look like BW by samick and last is my first bow a Martin hunter recurve. I would very much like to find someone that shoot traditional in the Oneonta area.
  11. I shot my muzzy 3 blade fixed BH's at my BH target. Thank good for a quality product . They fly just like my field tips.
  12. better safe than sorry. I had a safety alert from my bow shop insurance comp a few years ago about a accident in PA, a guy purchased and had installed a nock loop on his compound bow. he took the bow home and was shooting in his back yard that had a 4 ft fence around the yard. 3 kids were playing in a sand box about 3 houses down from him, he drew on his target, but he was over bowed so he would drraw from the sky and come down onto the target, well he was about 1/3 down on the target and the loop gave way, the arrow went off and he went to find his arrow. He found it inside a sand box with the 4 year girl that he had done major head damage to. He was facing police , court, and possible major cost to him. the girls parents also sued him in court, the shop owner, the loop mfg and the bow mfg...the parents were going for whoever had deep pockets.
  13. I take the quiver off when I get to the stand and also made a small hole in the quiver and put a string loop on the quiver so I can hang from a branch.
  14. I think you are right and you got to keep trying. Just like using scents lure, the mfg who has a big deer herd said one time to me that it depends on each buck and the time of day, temp, moon phase etc. One day they may come to the lure and the next day will walk on by. Sound like using a doe blet or grunt tube is the same way..I try 2 or 3 calls per hour..
  15. I do better with the doe blet on the last two weeks of Oct..
  16. I was out in the front yard the other day and one walked right down the center of the road with a rabbit in his mouth. I could not get to my rifle fast snough. I now am keeping my old iron 303 brintish enfield with 175 gr ammo in the garage.
  17. In my area the rabbits are almost gone. I think due to the coyote is on the raise.
  18. I sure was feeling great as 3 weeks ago I walked into the doctor office for my yearly visit. We had been on a lower food diet and had lost about 12 lbs from the prior year. I was feeling the best ever. The doctor checked me over and one of the things that came out was I was near high average for sugar, so I had better watch my eating etc. Next lets make sure you go in for this test of your Lower end / kidney. Spent a full 1/2 day, drinking a qt of crap, then had images made and also a line into the arm as they did the MRI. Results I have a small kidney stone, that may pass, as I have no pain. 3 days later I spent another 1/2 day have a scan of my neck for the main artery to see if any problem since my operation 3 years ago. ( yearly now test requirement ) well after waiting about 2 weeks for the results they called yesterday, l am setup with another doctor to see when he can now operation on both the left and right artery. ALso drop two meds and now add two new meds. So I am in limbo and will not know when I will be operated on till I see the new doctor on Aug 23 I think is the date. so getting old is just so much fun. I can hope that they will operate early in September and I will be able (god willing) fit to make the bow season.
  19. I look back and my first camo was leftover from the Vet Nam war. Then the next was a set of tan coverall that I tie dyed. Now with all the different fall leaves and trees etc. I do not worry about a brand and just look for the best buy on what I need in the way of a shirt, pant or coveralls.
  20. I got a pair of Bushnell from Walmart in 10 x 40 that I use to checkout the side hill in back of the house. They were a good buy at under $75 dollars.
  21. at 68 years young I just say thanks but get me a card with lots of love. Or get my wife and me a card for down south at one of the Major eating places that we can use when we go south.
  22. We are on the way to fall, the day is getting shorter and we are about one month way from the fall leaves color's in the big woods upstate and just two months away from it is almost bow season in the southern tier...
  23. By the time the late season comes I have just about had it with hunting. I also have a major issue with snow and ice as I have a bad leg and am physically challenged. So if we have lots of snow I may go out for a hour in the mid day to see if any deer are coming out to feed on the cut corn area in back of the house. I also have a bunch of area hunters with there bP that are putting on drives etc.
