i never saw a date best used by on one of those but...... what have you got to lose? add some doe pee...your pee....or a bit of water and hang it out..... it may work or it may not but if it does work...... market it and we can work out the profit end of the sale. honestly im not sure but like ive said i am no deer biologist i personaly have not tried to use one that old but at the same time i guess if i still had one laying about from last season.....i would give it a try. best of luck to ya and let us know how it turns out for ya.

two yearling's that i hope to see next season
sidewinder replied to sidewinder's topic in General Hunting
i tend to think yearling's just for the fact of the size of them. evean at 15 yards they had good size to them along with a long snout instead of a short and rounded one. im not a deer biologist by any stretch of the imagination but i have seen fawns during early summer mowing (hay) and these two were not quite the same size... just my opinion. -
yeah it looks like we are all gonna be wishing we were ducks i spent all of today getting the property set and put away... now i just have to finish up around the house.

working on that as of now i would love another hunting partner but i will settle for somebody who respects themselves and also enjoys the great outdoor's -

while out turkey hunting i saw these two yearling's. when they first came into view they walked around for a bit and then layed down in front of me at about 25+ yards. after a bit one of them got up and just for something to do i grunted at the lil he/she? this deer never ran off and as far as icould tell could have cared less that i was there. what happend next totally floored me. this one deer decided to come to me and see what was going on. now keep in mind at one point i was not only smoking a cig but also trying to work a cammera but also on a two/way telling my brother what was going on. totaly amazed at how curious a deer can be.

you can check out the dec website for any listing's of public accsess hunting area's. best of luck to you and your husband this season.
-
im a smoker and i have taken deer while cig is hanging out of my mouth... i will agree with the movement part however it may smell weird too a deer but you moving your arm and hand to take a drag will get that deer's attention a heck of alot quicker.

ok that cleared up a few things. ok if it is your first year hunting this property then you will probably spend more time second guessing yourself than anything else. the locations you have pointed out look good and if your lucky like all the rest of us hunters they will pay off for you. in the meantime do some scouting see where those deer travel when going from point a to point b you never know you might just fin a better place to hang your stand that offers you more options( shooting lanes) then your previous stand sites. best of luck to ya.
-
ok then if the pond is too close to the road perhaps setting a blind up 20 to 30 yards away from the pond so that you are between the water and a bedding area? also when it comes to a bedding area...... do the deer use this year round or is this a area that they rest from time to time during the morning or late afternoon? if at all possible see where the deer enter the field/bedding area from mabey you could hang your stand on the opposit side?
-
and i guess when the turkey is just so so the head is just a plain grey blob. the color of the head also depends on the way sunlight is reflecting off of it. just saying
-
hang a stand along the field line. if not there then a stand inbetween your main trail and your orange marked path. can you hunt near that pond ? if so mabey set up near the pond. if all that fails...go quadding lol.
-
im not sure of your boundries but mabey you could hang another stand or use a blind closer to your back yard? either that or walk in to your stand and keep what looks like a treeline to your left shoulder and then procede to your stand? like i said with out knowing where you can and where you cant go kinda limits the opinions that others can offer. just my 2$

personaly speaking i do not feel like i am a trigger happy hunter. in my lifetime i have taken several 8 pointer's some 6's busted5's and yes spike's fork's and does. every season i think about what it would be like to hoist up on a 12 to a 16 pt buck. every year i go into the wood's saying this might be the year. in all honesty i have been lucky at least i can still hunt and get excited about the thought of hunting. i really dont think NY neesd's another law telling a hunter what he/she can or cannot take. for those of you that let a smaller buck pass........ good for you that is your choice and i respect that. for those of you that go out and fill your tags legally........ i respect that as well. plain and simply put it comes down to a choice. it should never come down to one group making a choice for another.... just my humble 2$
-
lmao i will go no further as to asking the why............. other then the why would you lol
-
no other words to sum it up............NUT'S but like you said there are other forms of hunting with out the use of a gun. at least you did not give up and take up chess or checkers. like i said man tipping my hat to you.

i think he was trying to say quality...in what i call text coolness.
