What to plant on a large trail?
Geno C replied to burmjohn's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
sure why not? i mean at a minimumi would just order some PH Fert from biologic and just put that down with your blend, its simple and not pricey. ive put it down with maximum after i tilled a strip plot on an old logging road and beleive it or not it came up great. my other plots ive took the time to fert and lime with biologic comes up beautiful as well. i also bought there soil tester as well to just do quick checks on the soil right n the spot. ive never had an issue growing a strip plot on a logging road or what not with just bare necesities. i would still reomend some kind of fert or ph controller. i wouldnt want to just put seed down and hope for the best. keep in mind it might also take a few time of planting there for it to become a success. i would also try HOT SPOT, that worked well for me on strip plots with minimul work so long you have good seed/soil contact. -
LOL i really hope you copy and pasted that from somwhere!! and didnt type it

It's one of the ways that the Gene Pool gets thinned out ............. my 2 cents to each is own eddie....

i think its a better base then whats existing now... it would be a good thing to implement and try, what would it hurt? the DEC knows what tags were issued and everything has a numeric stamp and is keyed into the computer. If it was made manditory that a hunter shall be responseable, scratch that, forced to report every tag whether you harvested or not i personally think it would be a better system that is whats in place now.... should a hunter forget or just not submit this feild data then a reminder letter would be sent to the issued address and if no response or submital on the hunters side maybe a fine or surcharge might be at hand. but on that note thats a whole other topic. What i want to know is does the DEC take into account for the deer jacked by poaching each year as well? i would assume so but then how would one determine jacked deer for each county and what not? statistics? but how? but now the flip side of that coin would be what kind atamosity would that cause? howmany hunters would actually be turned off by that idea? enough to not want to possibly continue to hunt because some might find that to be more leg work on there end. i mean reporting a harvest should be done with out say BUT i truly wonder how this topic would stir the pot. especially for those who DO NOT report and also those who JACK deer... food for thought

that is great eddie! lol

^^ id didnt look that far into but it says all that?? that is true if it the case...
-
Hmmm its food for thought.... goodluck with the passing of that stone.

im not sure on how the logistics are panned out. i dont think they are completely accurate. However, i do beleive they have to calculate some kind of non reported carcass percentage. Some kind of percentage or formula they use for those who do not report it. i really never did get this. i remember i used to get 2 dmps every year in my county and then for a few years we didnt get any and those years i still continued to see loads of deer, mostly does.

So did drinking the baking soda help pass the other stone? you should deff invest in a filtered water system... i used to drink crystal light like it was going out of style, i know real manly right lol. But my fiance would yell at me all the time and tell me how bad it is for me. so now all i drink is filtered water. its funny that someone brought up baking soda, because i was wondering if anyone used it to test wind direction in the woods. i never used it before out in the woods but i was wondering if deer could pick it up? i always thought baking soda had a slight distinct smell to it thus deer be able to pick the scent of it up.

well up until the past week its been drier then a bone here. went like atleast 3 weeks without any rain with 85 - 95° weather...
-
thats funny, how high is that camera?? do you have a water source near by? that food plot and a small watering hole would really change your neck of the woods... looks good tho
-
its pretty crazy... i guess with this high heat and dry weather we have been having lately might have something to do with as well? EHD is a nasty problem to have on a deer heard. Each deer is susceptible to it as as well... i hear you will usually always find them in and around water sources when they pass, so keep an eye out for expired deer by water. If you do find a deer by water you might want to report it to DEC to examine...
