  1. We’ll see when and how this all ends, but my own thoughts are it will be sometime and prices will never drop to what they once were . I got a few hundred rounds of 300blk the other day, that I put on back order months ago, like six . There’s 100 rounds of 00 buck in route to the house , and I’ve got 20ga sabots on backorder with the hope they arrive by spring . I’m just trying to fill in my low spots ,with the hope I can continue to shoot . My 2 cents are if your low in ammo ,even hunting ammo, I’d have it on back order now . And I just found this , THREE YEARS TO CATCH UP ! https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/palmetto-state-115gr-9mm-fmj-ammunition-639-for-1000-rounds/
  2. Ok listen to me Uncle Charlie on Harris rd a bit south of State rd.This is Webster/ Penfield line . Charlie did 760 some this gun season ! I was there last night, he’s a great guy . Tell him his favorite firefighter Larry G sent you .... Ive used him for many years , never any issues , his prices have risen ,but so many have stopped doing it he can I guess .
  3. That buck was laying in the end near me and busted out only when my daughter got very close to the end of the ditch .Daughters path is black line , I’m yellow dot and deers path is blue line . The house circled in red is the house my wife grew up in , and this piece of ground is some of what she owns . Daughter was so close to me that I put my sling over my shoulder and started to walk into the ditch to walk out with her , when the buck almost ran me over in the ditch before it ran out ! Took two shots out of my smooth bore BPS, one connected . We pushed the ditch yesterday, had a large very bushy Fox stop broadside at 20 yards , he got a pass . Hard to match that fun sitting in a tree , for me anyways .
  4. I’m thinking of getting up , turning on the fireplace and making coffee soon .
  5. Sitting in a tree is nice in bow , as there’s generally lots of close in action , but it’s boring as F in gun , and I don’t feel like a hunter . We used to drive and push everything in gun , it was awesome ,we knew where they were and where they would run to , almost to the tree . Walked hours , total team effort . But much of the close drives are gone either cleared for bigger fields or now off limits , then the farm now frowns on drives as well . Today we pushed a few things ,three of us two does dropped and more passed . I put a stick in a lane where I wanted Dennis to stand , he dropped one at 30 yards ..... tell me that’s not hunting ! Stand here and in ten minutes you’ll kill one . It actually felt like we were hunting today , instead of sitting and playing with a phone . Zzzzzzz..... I used to call myself “ ditch walker “ I’d walk brushy drainage ditch’s for hours and sooner or later one would jump up , then how fast are you getting on it and letting slugs fly ! My favorite hunt was 16 years ago my daughter was 14 and I had her walk a over grown ditch , and she pushed a nice 7 ( broken brow ) out i shot him on a dead run at 75 yards .little buck ,14 inch spread, hunt of a lifetime ! Best hunt ever !
  6. One of my favorite bands !
  7. Anyone who thinks I shot a 12 w/split brows and twin drop tines, hasn’t been reading my posts to closely ...... Pushed a few spots, I had to,pass on some bigger does as they came past me, saw our trucks then came back down a lane right to me . However lead doe saw me and they crossed the ditch behind me, into winter wheat field , easy shot but houses and a road 200 yards down range . The others all skirted us for the most part .
  8. Ororo . https://www.ororowear.com/products/open-box-men-heated-padded-vest?variant=19480190877783&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_campaign=gs-2018-08-06&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzsz-BRCCARIsANotFgPN90xwJbj1y87W37tdruQQOw0iRtMy17WbHFsSunSQ4aRVk4RPzNYaAiwlEALw_wcB With this mild hunting season so far it’s hard to say, but so far so, good, but the novelty hasn’t worn off yet . I did buy four more as Christmas presents ( non hunters .) be careful prices tend to be all over, even on their site . This open box one is a good price , I paid like $129 They tend to be a slim fit , I went XL

    Beer

This is what it’s come to .
  10. So I’m leaving at 1:15 to hunt with a couple guys on their spot , daughter has my wife’s car as hers is in the shop . Wife took my truck to the store not back yet, I should have told her 1:00 .
  11. If he’s hunting this weekend , could you see if he’d $hoot one for me ?
  12. Since retiring one thing I miss is the annual Christmas tree fires, but I’m an old softy. This one is an artificial tree, buck took some smoke . Not much of a fire .
  13. Different times for sure, I didn’t use a tree stand for the first 12 years or so . From ‘75- ‘91 I shot pumpkin balls out of a bird barrel 12 ga .

    Beer

Blood orange ,cranberry Cream Ale . Sounds to foo foo for me ,but it’s quite good .
  15. Rob, there’s not much in this photo ( and many other spots not in it ) we didn’t drive , along with everyone else in the area ,deer were running all day . I had 4 guys , Ron behind me 6-8 we teamed up each morning . Today much is off limits and much of the best spots the farmers have turned into fields , which I understand . Today I have one other guy sometimes and Ron , well it’s just him nowadays . Sitting is great for bow , but boring as hell in gun .
  16. My Dads total hunting “ gear” could fit in one coat pocket . His boots were those non insulated green rubber boots with yellow laces , a green upland coat with an orange vest , a red hat and green wool gloves . I started with the same boots , but we put bread wrappers over our feet to make them waterproof . We sat freezing till 9, sweated our ass off driving miles of farmland till 3 or so, then sat freezing till dark . When I’m an old fool ( insert joke here ) talking about the past days of hunting , it won’t be stories like this ... ” Why I could sit in a blind from dark to dark, went trough two green propane tanks and drained my phone battery ! “
  17. Hey everyone has different reasons for hunting . I have a friend who donates his meat, and the antlers have to stay at the camp , so he gets neither the meat or horns.... I married into a farm family , the cost of access to the land is one most men should best avoid , he’s paid his dues .
  18. Farms are larger , the small guy has a hard time theses days. There’s five farm families in Ontario county that buy up most land before it’s listed , fortunately my wife’s maiden name is the same as one of those families. Its all posted with one or two guys on his assigned chunk . As for liability, perception is reality . We are buying liability insurance this year ,as well as posting it , per recommendation of our attorney who wants to “ avoid falling victim to a creative lawsuit .” The snowmobiled club was declined the use of our land , yet their trail signs were put up across it . So they were contacted to remove them , but that was the tipping point, for posting and insurance , as well .
  19. I’ve had 25 sits on two properties, mixing up morning, afternoon , high probability spots that produce year after year with , spots with views ,and ones in remote nasty thick stuff . Ive seen two doe on each spot none I could get a shot at . Two cameras ten days one spike ,which right now I’d shoot in a heartbeat .
  20. Pretty much done , blowing off tomorrow ,was going hunt both ends Palmira and Cand . Zero tracks in the snow in Cand. No interest in getting up at 5:15 AM . It’s ok first time in 27 years the deer beat me . We may drive Sat. But I can’t really see the iron sights on my BPS anymore , I’ve dropped many running deer with that gun since ‘91 so who, knows .
  21. But then we’re hunters , like you said being part of the process and all . I could make a couple thousand easy cleaning gutters in the Fall, that could sure fill the freezer . Venison for most is the most expensive meat by far .
  22. What I spent on gasoline alone this hunting year would fill my freezer with one trip to the meat market . Something that is starting to make me think .
