    21 deer

Just as the sun dipped below the hill across the valley Mr B. Yells out " Holy shite Chris look out the front window!" There piling out of the neighbors sanctuary and across our drive ,then the road to my front garden are 21 deer big and small. They walked the ditch eating grass and road salt then walked the cut power line down to the hunting camp below. Looks like I'll be putting up some cams to see if this is a regular thing at that time of day...nice seeing a big herd again.
  4. BTW...what are your points to it being a young deer...How young a deer?
  5. Just looking to see who has what opinions and why..wasn't referring to you as Mr smart mouth.....It was a straight up question in a thread talking about deer age structure..curious..take the rack away and what happens ?
  6. Your making assumptions my dear....as I said I'm not saying one way or another..though sex aside I see no estimates from you ..or Mr wise mouth... Give Manic credit for questioning it though... This is a telling post already.
  7. Is it?....if it were ,not saying one way or another...could you age it?
  8. Green beans from our garden last year and home made sauerkraut, red potatoes and Turkey kielbasa
  9. We have a guy down the road with a penned deer...DEC permit...taxidermist...both he and his wife have been darn near killed by it during the rut...
  10. Just for the hell of it lets play this game...take a guess at the age of this buck and say why...
  11. I could never shoot a deer that I even thought was tame...I don't know nor do they who tamed that deer....I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before today...so it has to be someone very close to them...Everyone close to them hunts...It boggles my mind. NFA...lol I do have fun with such threads...they really are redunkulous
  12. This wasn't that it was a dog collar..I really am not sure I would have believed him, but there they were ..Her laughing with delight and arms wrapped around the deer. The deer nuzzling her ear and making no attempts to get away...in fact it was leaning in the be hugged and scratched an petted...Honestly the people around here drive me crazy...it's a whole different world I swear to God.... Well that surely confirms my belief the deer around here are looking so very healthy due to more than my plots or the farmers fields...Absolutely sure the increase in rack size over the last 10 years is also due to some healthy minerals around the hill....and I wonder why I'm not seeing day time deer
  13. I will need to look this up again BUT...I believe they changed that law so no convicted felon without special circumstance(judge review) is allow to use a blk. powder gun...This I think was changed last or 2 years ago...I'll dbl check. We bought FIL a Thompson center he loved it...I have a traditions LT break open and love it.... His 1200.00...mine 300.00 both killed deer Found it..longer than I thought... http://ocshooters.com/blog/?p=274
  14. Get any worse up here..How the " F " could I be surprised!...Sorry but really. I'm driving home and The new neighbor with hives waves... so I back up...to say high and give him the heads up on my planting buckwheat (maybe) this spring...So we get to talking... He seems to be a real nice guy and both he and his wife hunt...When in the conversation he says so who has the pet deer? What pet deer?...and he pulls out his cell phone with a video of his wife in front of their place, laughing and hugging and being "kissed" by a young deer..WTH..then tells me it routinely comes in the yard and licks his pant legs and hangs around...up to a week before gun season it had an orange collar on.They think it's coming from some where near him and they have dogs.....They are 1/2 mile below me. There is absolutely nothing these people around here won't do that's not illegal in nature .. He then tells me it was one of our neighbors down the road that shot his buck last year and dropped dead of a heart attack...plus told me of several whoppers I hadn't seen or caught on cams. What is wrong with someone ,especially in this area of EVERYONE hunts they'd tame a wild deer to be use to people AND put a collar on it! Further Whats wrong with people not turning this in!...well I can almost see why not that...DEC would kill it...
  15. OMG!!!!! Can I like that a million times to infinity...haha ...So scary..
  16. Me too Adkh...we still have some good weather for heaving coming in but the posabilty of a lot of rain as well. There was about 2" of heavy snow on those plots. We got just a dusting last night. I have one plot that gets standing water so that needs to wait.
  17. We have bigger issues with the bugs and fungi here...it's 21 and very windy...I hope it knocked down some bugs. When they hatch they are tiny...So for me to see the clumps of them that I did..means there were way too many. Very surprised to see this so very early..
  18. Well Here there is a swell in all the fruit trees but. Not enough for damage yet...it's the winds that are reeking havoc with the hazelnut catkins . Nearly all our reds produced last year.I'm not expecting much this year but winds and weather may keep things on the light side for 2018. Our altitude keeps us usually 2 weeks behind everyone else as far as blossom. We barely hit forty by 5 pm yesterday..then temps dropped fast.
  19. Not sure what you mean Lawd...with them hatched and the freezing weather coming in for a few days...it should kill them. At least some should
  20. Well I added a bit of Red Frank's sauce. Salt to taste...took the sauce out of crock pot to thicken it up and ladled over a bed of Romano covered penne. Topped this with the veggies and chicken. Very tasty. The chicken shredded with a fork but moist,it had a bit of a sweet undertone due to the wine. The veggies soaked up the thyme and other seasonings...oh it also had one medium onion quartered.
  21. I'm not sure how much cold it takes to kill tent caterpillars but we will be in the 20's tonight and the teens tomorrow night. I was out working and looking up in the trees to find groups of tent caterpillars bunched up on the trunks and branch crotches of the trees they hatched in those latest warm spells we had...... perhaps this will be a good year for the trees....
  22. We had 2 days of melt...and 2 days of real cold coming in...so I frost seeded over the chicory plus plot and 2 trails and a small opening plot...These are fairly flat, so I'm not worried about run off. It was a coated clover of some kind I found in the back seat of the car...must have bought it last summer...all other plots are way too sloped with this much snow......perhaps I'll catch another break later in the month.
  23. That's more than what we payed for the PTO one....but even ca good chain harrow is stupid pricey..
