  1. Dang I really have neglected some of the wild apples and had my work cut out for me...I only have two hybrids up here, the Cortland and another Mitsu/? and they are easy to keep up with...both semi dwarf I have 2 -3 standard delicious yellow and red.to young to produce down the hill, all the rest are wild... Some of the wild apples are as tall as my mature maples...All I can do is hit suckers and trim lower branches...any little pruning helps though because it will stimulate growth. The wild plums are looking great and had a lot of work to be done...They grow faster than the apples...The mulberries were easy, I've kept up with them well...Trimmed back a whole bunch of honeysuckle brush and dogwood brush,I have to hit the pears and apples/ chestnuts all grapes and kiwi down the hill. It will be in the low 30's on Wednesday again...only 38 here now...Too much snow to frost seed and it is the weight of lead! Oh boy muscles I haven't worked in a while...Lots of over head lopping and nipping....I'm sore all ready...lol
  2. Now oak tress are being added to this baiting scenario?(the mention of acorns)...lol That's stretching it really...both camp and home are loaded with mature oaks, that where there long before we were...also apple orchards...these were all old farmsteads before we were born....Even clover..yes I plant clover but the deer hang on the neighbors that won't plant..but they did take my advise and mowed trails and opened up every wild apple tree they found. See here, where ever you mow, just mow...clover grows. As long as it's never been sprayed, you'll have a lush weed filled clover trail the deer love. So these things are to be considered bait if you hunt the land? Come on...The things we all talk ourselves into to makes us feel superior to the next guy...More human nature, I honestly can't wipe the dumbfounded grin off my face.
  3. 4 seasons I can't say yes to that...I just do not know...I've never baited and as you well know most of my plot traffic is at night or fawn and doe at dusk and dawn...Not that they know where I'll be because I am now working on close to 40 different sets and even I don't know where I'll be any given day until the wind hits my face. So I do not know if a pile of anything would draw them differently then a plot...I do know I watch a lot of deer in bow season out of range walking the edges moments before opening and closing for the day. This is one of the reason I put in so many small plots in so many different places and have so many many sets......I do not want a slam dunk...I enjoy being frustrated even with all the frustration that goes with it, some times we need to understand not all b..itching is bad. Sometimes it is just part of the fun in something...
  4. I thought on that question WNYBH while I was out pruning the apple/friut trees...I actually have to say none...Now that's said, I do know they were coming off or going to the big farm fields and I also killed them in the swamp areas and going to or coming out of those swamp bedding areas... The 8 pt I shot 2 years ago came out of the swamp bedding jumped the fence and landed in the middle of the lane way plot but the second his feet hit the ground he was in the woods and was running through those woods toward the big farm fields up the hill when I shot him...I would say that's the closest, but he wasn't in that plot 3 seconds. The other 8 was in the middle of our swamp,no where near any food plots or farm fields. I hunt my woods mostly even though the big blinds/stands are on the plots. I get lots of pics of buck walking under stand past stands and blinds on the plots but never when I'm anywhere near them..or they are too young to shoot. I usually get them around bedding or the areas they chase doe in. PS...I have shot plenty of doe in the plots...but they too have been mainly to and from bedding over the years...and at camp there are no farm fields anywhere and there are no plots any where...those where woods with mast and bedding
  5. 13 plots....never shot buck on one of them in 15+ years....Gosh slam dunk! LOL
  6. Venison lion medallions in garlic olive oil with mushrooms, Angel hair zucchini and yellow squash in garlic and evo ,baked potato, slaw
  7. Was that 24-25? Nice sized herd.
  8. Don't forget to go to that out of the way clearance isle...it's no where near the hunting Dept.....it's where I have found the best deals.
  9. Ok.. I do need to say something about the boron addition (borax soap) There is a fine line between helpful and toxic. So PLEASE read up on this and only a comprehensive soil test will tell you what's needed. Not all micro nutrients are equal...READ!
  10. BTW..anyone one one of these? I took a look at one set up at GANDER the other day...way smaller then the others but OK for me...I'm not really impressed with any of the Windows...I like my dog house zippers..they give me a better handle on window openings. I can fix this though with adhesive magnets cut and attached. The door could be an issue on a platform so I'll have to figure that out when putting in a tie down system. Which will probably be a strip of wood screwed down over bottom skirting..harder to steal unless cutting it away. Best in winds.
  11. It is a school lawyers nightmere to even consider removing any employee other than Lilly white or not having a student at any level not advance in education especially higher education. ...There are many meetings a team called, tons of paper work, and very ,very careful wording approved. This again unless Lily white. Reverse racism, ha! even having to say reverse in conjunction with racism is ridiculous.
  12. Thanks guys..Mr B is a construction super....started out as a carpenter and has done all our window installs. It's been a few years for residential so he wanted me to get opinions on what's been going on from some of you guys...I mentioned I surmised at least some of you were in the field...Great info and pictures to boot..More opinions the better and thanks for these and any more to come. It will be side by side double hung to fit the opening..He wanted different size but it's a stained tongue and groove paneled wall. I do not want to deal with what a size change would entail. They will be wood inside.
  13. If your putting in New Windows what brand would you choose. We are replacing our 8' + picture window, putting in two double hung s of the same size. Just curious.
  14. Baked pork chops,baked potato,roasted butternut,peas in a garlic parmesan sauce.
  15. I like the sole warmers they work well.
  16. Mr B got an e-mail... they are doing it March 24th....thanks anyways... It s the 23 for Naples...24th for cold brook
  17. I took advantage and picked up a blind for a whopping $50.00..... on sale for 99.00 ( what everyone else was selling it for) gander points and the promotion...I have two dog house and a chair blind now this.... http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Invisi-Bull-1-Person-Ground-Blind&i=958400
  18. It's the loudest chick that gets the worm...period...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYq2X2zmcgs&feature=youtu.be notice it doesn't say "and deer hunting" it specifies BUCK hunting
  19. No shocking...they shock the creek and count they weigh and measure the fish.. Here it's done down in Naples in my area.
  20. Hey did the DEC do a fish shocking this year?
  21. Well this whole thing will become a moot point anyways. Human nature folks, the local feed mills ,hunting stores and the UPS/ FedX guys will have a hard time keeping up with the stocking, sales and deliveries of various baiting attractants when the AR legislation goes through. Then add all the Amish sheds that will be popping up to hang and butcher deer...the tonneau covers that will be purchased to get those deer home undetected...yep like it or not your not going to stop human nature...I give my condolences to those in the areas not included should this pass also to the butchering shops who's income will take a hit. Shame on you Rich Funke
  22. I actually read a study yesterday that showed a hunter is less likely to shoot a mature buck over bait. This over shooting one in non baited nature habitat...more likely to shoot doe.
  23. Well they added camp to the 4 pt rule...I see 8 H 8M and a few others are still out. When they started this whole thing wasn't it 3 pts in the original areas? This is one sly way of getting land back into the housing market or the huge lease guys that have been circling these areas for at least the last 10 years, because in places like 8X where taxes are stupid high...deer are hard to get any ways 3-4 thou. a year with low doe tags given in hard to hunt land..camps will go on the market..watch the big hunting leases swoop in....
  24. Apparently not one person comparing the two has EVER watched a Field Archer video. I'm giving no opinion on his hunting ,other than it's legal and his videos are a clear indication that a bait pile is way different than a food plot.
