  2. Whoa!!!!...Now you stop right there, none of that!...You start apologizing for making posts that stir a pot and you'll be apologizing all the time. Next thing you know you'll be irritating people for apologizing too much and have to apologize for that too..That alone could rack up pages........Where is that dog chasing tail emoticon?...Lol Seriously this is, same ole same ole, "forget about it!"
  3. Ohhh ya.... this is what 100#'s of seed corn disced gets me, has nothing to do with germination it germinates great...between wire worms and critters ...I'm lucky 100#'s on a half acre yields this...It's why I plant after turkey season ends...don't want to be accused of baiting ..lol I'll never pay more than $8 a 50# bag to plant corn around here unless I had a planter..even my sweet corn I plant in rows by hand get hit hard they walk up the rows digging the seed out...replanted my sweet corn 3x's last year and that was behind fencing..I finally put bird netting over it. hhhmmmm something is up with that drive can't access those pictures right now...Anyways a great stand and lots of cobs ,but it is hammered before it gets big enough not to yank out of the ground...one year a whole field had 4in tall seedlings yanked and left on the surface...It was a busy day for them...
  4. I have a hard enough time keeping the crows, grackles and turkey from digging up my planted seed...I believe they line the plots watching me,stinking thieves...I can't imagine if too many were left on the surface...The turkeys would be the first to alert the others by going in, scratching and picking...the rest would swarm...not to mention the rodents woodchucks ...ahhh those cute little bunnies and bass turd raccoons...
  5. Neither did I, nothing I said suggested I was going near that debate...
  6. I want to wish you all a Happy St. Patrick's Day May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand. May God be with you and bless you: May you see your children's children. May you be poor in misfortune, Rich in blessings. May you know nothing but happiness From this day forward. May the road rise up to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home And may the hand of a friend always be near. May green be the grass you walk on, May blue be the skies above you, May pure be the joys that surround you, May true be the hearts that love you.
  7. I don't know, but by the position of his arm...he's coming away with a hell of a welt....
  8. I'm sorry but if hunters...even young hunters haven't watched enough TV and especially these "reality" TV shows to know what is and isn't staged...then that's on them...seriously do we really need to pull out the definition of entertainment? Do most, if ANY of these hunting show label themselves as documentaries? Sometimes these arguments just make me laugh...we need to get a dog chasing tail emoticon...
  9. Apparently you've never had to feed a cow...hahahaha
  10. Have a fantastic day...It is suppose to be pretty nice out there, and a better year with many many more to follow...
  11. You'll learn... there are several "trip wire" threads that get hit here. There are also "seasonal" just plain nasty times. The occasional stalkers,ectect...Just look at it as trying to walk through a cow paddock....no matter how many times you get through clean..eventually your going to hit a steaming pile...LOL
  12. You hit a key multiple thread ,multiple year ..I mean MULTIPLE YEAR "trip wire" in that OP...lol
  13. Nice...you may want to check out the cow pea seeds..they ,as I recall ,are smaller than the soybeans...May work better...I was pleased how they came up both deep and shallow seeded....
  14. I would assume they are mostly salt as most are,but also contain enhancers to get the deer to eat them...minerals on their own aren't all that tasty. If spread out over a good distance and worked in you shouldn't have a problem. You probably have way more road salt than that in your front lawn. Most instances with such mixes and cattle mixes guys drop them and leave in rain and moisture...then they get moldy..how do I know.Well read the labels there is a reason they say in a dry area . I raised goats, calves and hogs...they got minerals granular and blocks...granular was the worst for this. Ground molasses was used as an enhanced. Moisture would find its way in the granular dispenser in the goat barn and a white mold would grow...I had to check it daily. Thanks for answering that NYbh. One other thing ...not to derail this but it's been bugging me a while and this is a perfect instance to mention it. I've been noticing not just chicken blocks but now turkey mineral/scratch blocks being sold...Think about this tightly packed blocked of seeds with molasses minerals ,salts and what ever else they use to "harden " the mixture...they are a bacteria mold growing mediums when left out in moisture and warmer weather...both fowl and deer have a delicate balance in their crops and guts. Just hitting fresh greens in spring can mess them up..So when guys drop this stuff and walk away they aren't doing the wild animals they are trying to attract to cameras or lands ANY favors, wet seed molds, bacterial will breed and yes the animals will test them before it's bad enough for them to avoid.
  15. You know those two bags of minerals are illegal to place out..other than that, make sure you have optimum ph for that seed brand to do well.
  16. That depends on the tire tread you have...I have used both the mower and one of the ATV's. But a roller does a much better job, cultipacker even better. When looking to buy a Chain harrow find one that comes in sections..easier to transport but also shorter section comes in very handy..a good one is pretty darn heavy
  17. Don't forget to choose plants the first 2 years that can work for you..read read read..buckwheat mines minerals with deep roots..handles poorer soils but delivers important growth nutrients to deer.....look for weed suppressing plants deer like...one's that help keep weed seeds from terminating...always remember soil health so you can ppl we imbalance things you can till in spring and still plant in fall without tilling..a roller is a hard thing to find used but a great great tool.
  18. This area was my first non trail plot...I broke ground with the tiller. Made several passes then used a chain link fence with logs wired to it pulled by the riding mower...still do some that way....though now, mostly done with a tractor disc and chain harrow..but for the first 5 years it was me and the Husqvarna tiller. Think we had a sears in there as well. Looked just as good then as it does now...but I did a section at a time so there was buckwheat next to clover next to grains next to brasiccas...pics are just different angles of that same plot

  20. Mr B got those some time ago....they haven't showed up yet though.
  21. As well you should Be!...nice mount that an aluminum shaft?.. Man I remember those 2115's as I recall some feather some plastic vanes..
  22. I started out using a walk behind tiller but your biggest investment is time...You start out shallow ripping up the very top part of the sod you killed ahead of time preferably just before a good rain...this will allow you to "pick" rocks as you go and break the surface so the rain can help "loosen" the next layer...then after the rain, go across what you did earlier just a little deeper...If the thatch is too much rake it off .. but if it isn't leave it and over seed then roll it for the first year...you can try a cheap red clover in spring or a sweet rye then a fall planting of brassica and or winter grain...This will give that thatch time to rot......The following year will be easier to work ... NUMBER ONE RULE in first time plotters with limited equipment...IT TAKES TIME..NOTHING needs to be perfect that first year...for one thing it takes the deer time to realize there is a new food source of anything, in the area..Make the whole thing more a labor of love, than a PITA $$ eating project...If the process, work and all, can't be as enjoyable as the outcome ...go plant some trees you'll be far better off...That is to all potential new plotters
  23. Pork sausage stuffed with artichokes and red peppers, chicken sausage stuffed with spinach and asiago. Baked tater, sauteed zucchini and yellow summer squash, red peppers, onions, mushrooms, garlic.
