  1. Our camps in the Alfred area 8X..good deer there...tough land to hunt..tougher to get them out..lol That county produces some good deer takes.
  2. Yep but that means the time stamp is wrong...is there a road near by in that direction or a town...I see lights in my woods that look like they are actually in the woods at night and I know them to be several miles away...In fact I got lost at night tracking a deer because those lights got me turned around in the dark... Mr B realized what happened and set up halogen floods behind the garage to lead me home...I mean I was completely disoriented and heading in the wrong direction....Which made me understand completely how this happens to people in the Adirondacks or any big woods
  3. yep years ago if you didn't ..you'd have very few hunts....I've sat in blowing snow and -13 degrees...eye lashes and nose hairs frozen so cold it took an effort to raise the gun to shoot the deer...but they were moving as slow as me...lol
  4. Should always have some sort of lighter/matches a length of ripe cord and a dry pair of socks and gloves...
  5. Well I think finally the Guys up here get it...only two close shots before season opener and they were down hill from us...very unusual and no after hour shots at all..that could have been weather. Very little activity where normal much more than usual behind and next door...more shots towards the lake state lands. Here on top of the hill participation has gone down for this weekend...or as I predicted the manure trucks moved everything...I have never seen just one doe on opening day before..but someone was seeing them very near our/nieghbors swamp..... More shots heard this year than last years opener though. 1-3 was a shooting gallery...
  6. It is 30 degrees with a covering of snow on everything...It's been colder but it feels frigid right now...Radar shows the central part of NY may not get it as bad as you guts west and east of us So good luck and be safe. Even NYS tend to forget how to drive in snow conditions at the first sign
  7. This is the 9pt.legal 7pt (broken tines) that a guest at our camp shot today. He was in his climber up near my wht. pine stand in the upper swamp..I thought you'd like the interesting rack....
  8. No we got freezing rain..more sleet than rain ...went from 60 at 1pm to 34 now....I froze my tush off in the garden blind and saw nothing while the woods behind the house were getting shot to hell....They are either lousy shots or they filled their tags and should be going home tomorrow...lets hope. Son saw deer got no shots, guest took a 9 pt but due to broken tines legal 7 and Mr. B saw a few doe at camp.
  9. Sounded like the hunters son and new neighbor were having a shooting match ,just down the hill...Hope that drove some over to our place across the street. Also that they are taking out the smaller ones , one buck = one less body shooting driving the road stinking things up with kerosene heaters..ect..ect... ...I'm good with that. I checked cams..dead,took care of animals and mail. Then repaired the canvas barn door before it snows...Now I'm headed out to sit in one of the blinds in the rain..temps dropping fast... good luck all
  10. Deer here all went down hill...that is where all the shooting is taking place and where I played dodge deer on the way home last night...
  11. Just looked at the radar...you guys in the west are about to get hit looks like Buffalo/north to south...should hit us in and hour or 2...Good Luck
  12. In the 60's when I went out and very bright...That said not bright enough to see the rack on the buck that walked to my stand and hung out a bit at 6:30. I couldn't see the bead on my gun...but at 3:39 shot..shot..shot..shot....Apparently they couldn't see well either by 6:47 there were 19 shots...Opening was 7:07 this morning...only 2 were very near...and as of now only 2 shots below me and 2 above...I passed on a adult doe..I still have cutting on the buck to do and it is crazy warm here The 1acre"hunting camp" guy walked by twice he went right to the line ...almost went over but didn't...the second time he looked up and saw me glassing him...so he slowly walked past me 50ft away..nodded and I gave a wave...thought he might kick something up when he turned to go down the other property line but he didn't...He must have lost permission to hunt that neighbors property now, for he would have gone to the gully. Later I heard a quick 2 volleys from the area he went...Lord hope he got a buck... Congrats on the deer guys...Apex great buck!..Oh just heard a shot at the hunting camp, the old guys son came up.
  13. I was taught 5 and 5 so that's what I carry...then I scramble to find the empty boxes when I'm finished for the season.
  14. Dang Sun rise here is 7:07a.m. and it is 63 degrees right now...finish coffee and hop in shower...let the count on early shots begin..lol.. Be Safe out there everyone...I have my little back lit wrist watch on...seeing no phone alarm to let me know...I use my alarm on phone during season...didn't set Mr B's alarm clock right ...was worried about it woke every hour on the hour...good thing...alarm never went off...Hope I didn't use up my daily allotment of luck on that...
  15. Where it know matter where you are..deer can't see it..Both myself and my neighbor where nearly shot out of our tree stands on our individual private properties by guys on neighboring lands.... We where both in full blaze orange..Why risk it...
  16. Great buck! Congrats...after such a drag...glad your still with us!
  17. If I don't, I died so the 2 1/2 year old could make it to 31/2 . I did my part to fill a freezer, make a hunter happy and get a teenage buck closer to adulthood...
  18. I just oiled and ran the ripcord through my browning 20ga. ..she's shining again(inside barrel ) and action/safety is smooth...a touch of orange on the bead and I'm ready to go...
  19. Here we go...that opening day dilemma...where to go where to go...complications, I redid all cams and went to feed the chickens and do a window repair and hunter orange display in one of the blinds...OMG some of the tracks were crazy big and they are on ALL of the trails. No kidding one set the size of a deck of cards and the dew claws were dug in deep...on what looked like a walking gate. there were no cams there...the ones I have out are showinglets say some really good deer...but no set times or days...and gun hunters change everything...many walk in during light so they can get a shot of...some are stalkers that work with a partner...so I know the deer will be pushed.. The farmer...still going strong up there in fact a truck just came down our hill...I think they are doubling up as one comes in the back way the other leaves our road so there is no wait time on the refills That is a good sized field and he is going ever so slow...so I know they are injecting an awful lot each pass, well over 30 tankers the size of oil tankers. Any how I always pick the wrong opening day spot...I just might as well flip some coins...lol...Good luck guys ,I hope your coin tosses favor you all
  20. Good for you Rob I hope she drops a dandy..and gets hooked for life.....in my dog house blinds Mr B had a fishing chair(low to the ground wit cup holders and a nice folds down back rest. He had it in the garbage and I pulled it out..wonderful and JUST the right height...beach chairs with a nice padded cushion work great and one have my garden scooter in it adjustable seat height .swivels and rolls back and forth one one way...Salvation army and second hand stores good places to find such things... http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/allen-high-back-blind-chair?a=683734
  21. I don't know...may be you should hold out for something a little bigger...LOL Best of Luck...may he do a leisurely stroll past you.
