Fletch, that's why didn't go into the woods but I'm going out to clear here after coffee and a bagel Now want to know how lucky I am? Even though that 4 was huge..I mean 3yrs old for a 4pt...it was him.... wouldn't have shot but wanted a pic...he was too fast...He wasn't this guy and I would have been out of my mind mad at myself.....Oh the spikes on cam as well this a.m.
-
He came in from them just 70 yards through my slashing the girls were really screaming mean several of them and non stop...he was in the plot,no leafs before I knew it ..I have to tell you he was literally doing a sneak walk across the plot and the gun club is shooting miles away sounds like they are just below me...out in the country and it sounds like I'm in Rochester.
-
Well the girls stopped screaming so they had to have pushed anything that would come my way out..ie that big 4...knees can't take this sitting any longer..it was a great! Morning! That spike..so much fun! I didn't think I could hold my breath that long..lol Ps ...ton of shooting....

There has been a lot of noise just above the ridged down from the garden where I'm but nothing coming this way. That much noise has to be chasing or turkey's.

Putting out some calls TF but no go yet

Still hitting different stands...I could do that all season. I wanted to go to one that would give me an idea of their direction in to the Apple tree stand. I was hoping to catch them coming in and waiting the edges as it were...Had a small owl pop out of a hole in the tree next to me and fly away..neat...then a parade of squirrels come into a bath tub water hole to get a drink and eat maple leaf whirlies. I waited past close bow on ground still hoping fir info...nothing...crunched my way out and kicked up at least 2 over the ridge that were headed in....Going in morning because of Turkey...but this is going to be a leaf blowing trails week end...So I can enjoy some quiet next week until the next heavy drop. Ps..it was a wonderful airline of my prettiest scene stand...

Really? So they did try it on deer..aahhh go figure...lol

Do what you wish ChrisW ..for some reason what others do bothers you... Thats OK Many a people have tried many a thing in the deer woods and gotten many a deer...HHmmmm I do wonder...was the idea for ever calm and nose jammer and a variety of grunt ,turkey calls ,ect,ect... used in some guys home on his family...or do ya think he took his ideas to the woods and used what ever results he deemed good before the final out come....Please! don't answer that it's rhetorical...

pressure cookers are for the non acid foods like non pickled beans and most veggies..of course meats....Water bath canning requires a higher acidic food source be it in the veggies or added with a pickling brine. I even add a teaspoon of vinegar to my tomatoes when using mixed variety's...That second link is the best to read...many older canning books are based on heirloom varieties...I've been canning our foods for 38 yrs.. http://www.dummies.com/food-drink/canning/why-acidity-levels-are-important-when-canning-foods/ http://foodinjars.com/2013/09/canning-101-acid-and-ph-in-boiling-water-bath-canning/

Actually there is a lot of info on it....All I know is it works...PS.. I grow my own basil and oregano...use lots with the garlic, onions peppers with big chunks of mushrooms and red wine. Saute all veggies prior to adding to tomato and add the spices a bit later...some spices will get bitter in long simmers.

Biz..I'm Irish...gravy is what we put on our potatoes...sauce is on our pastas..lol Ya because I can in a non pressure cooker can, I won't use a low acid tomato..but no need now..wish I could find where I read that..I'll search on line..

Who here puts carrots in their home made pasta sauce? I use high acid tomatoes to can These due to safety ,higher the acid safer the water bath canning. I have had an awful time with the acidity of my sauce in years past...tried everything...the old Italian methods of swt wines and a pinch of sugar,,nope. I can taste the sugar and the acid though I do use a rich wine in my sauces. Then I read about carrots...man I now have the smoothest sauces...I chunk the carrots for those that don't want them but they some how cut that acid and enhances the tomato flavor with just a hint of mild sweetness... So this is why I ask...about who else has heard of this and does it?

Being highly superstitious..Oh yes I admit it ..having 200 oaks on our place ,I refuse to speculate at the moment

Well sometimes..it can get a bit scary...another is if I hear walking coming towards me..depending on terrain and distance I will undo my fanny pack..if there are no opticals in it... and drag it bouncing behind me as I make short burst runs then stop( at my age that's all I can muster )...I tie a pull rope to it before I leave the house. Never worse for wear because it is maybe a 1-2 times a year thing. Think about all the noise you hear when bucks are chasing doe past your stand in the the dark ..one or two soft short grunts as you run..I've had buck come right in and doe after that at day light...I often wondered if that noise didn't have them wait until it was lighter to continue...verse walking past my stand in the dark...hhhmmmm... Anyways pasta sauce in the crockpot will shower and head out in a little bit...

Listen there is not much I haven't tried to fool deer as I walk to my stands in the dark...That said, it has on occasion back fired...Like when I tried to look like a young pine tree and squatted and tucked my head when In the moon light I saw deer on the other side of the field... That got me a large tine slipping up under my face and a buck literally snorting in my ear...That could have turned out very badly..but he swung around and stiff legged it out of there...or when I have been stomped and snorted at and then I stomped and snorted back...to be charged...yep another not so fun in the dark...I will never stop in a field to tie a drag on again ...I had a buck charge me and I had to quickly stand push my bow out hard in front of me as I ..hhmmm Yelped...may have tied a scream but it came out like a high pitched yelp...I could hear him nearly somersault as he came to and abrupt stop and turned away ..way to close for comfort...I only use drags in day light now...Hey so many years of hunting and so many ideas that pop into my head on those usually quiet walks in and definitely long quiet hours on stand...Some good others...well....... Skipping landed me the best buck fight I have ever seen not 2 mins after I had past them...they fought all the way to and under my stand and the sounds were crazy. As it got light one of them broke off and came my way a huge typical 8 with steam rolling off and out of him but he was just out of range.. wish cell phones were around then it's an image I won't forget though. ps I have never heard rattling or any grunting that could match the sounds those two were makeing as they fought through our woods..and it lasted a long timeI bet they traveled 300 yrds fighting...
