  1. LOL I go check messages It's Mr B. telling me about the scrap yard. See he was cleaning the garage and had a 55Gal paper barrel with scrap in it. I came in from hunting and he says he's taking it into the scrap yard would I lift the barrel and give him my estimate. OK I walked over and he watched me lift it about 8 inches off the ground and I said 130#... He tells the guy at scrap yard this...they put it on the scale and it reads 186#. The guys turns to him and says...Your wife's sorta strong aye?...Mr B says yes, yes she is...then ends the message with 186#'s!...lol
  2. That's a lot of blk walnuts...you should do some checking around...big bakery item(small ) and restaurant chef thing...not common and local. $$ or traded for goods......We have a bunch of blk walnut trees...I never get a nut...critters scarf them up the second they hit the ground...
  3. Thanks guys..I feel bad this was a bit ago..We don't get any of the papers anymore and pretty much stick to home...his grand kids and ours kids were all friends went to school together...has a wonderful wife and family ..big hunters Actually went to same church his brother did in our old town years ago...small world I mention this because his story is an inspiration and a thing to ponder...You grow old when you let aging shut you down...he never did...I hope to have such an ending be it sooner or later. Preferable the latter
  4. hundreds of acres of chopped not cut corn...they leave ZERO in the fields all winter
  5. Doing what you love...we have an acquaintance We lost contact with some years ago...Just found out he passed...At a car dealers of all places...Anyways he and his tractor were found in his beloved pond...He built it years ago with a pavilion . Went to several gatherings there from Birthdays to weddings....He was a tough, freindly, hard working man. Fought a battle with cancer and Won...Out enjoying his favorite place while mowing at the age of 94...heart attack...God Bless you Ivan....
  6. Last years turnips were the size of my tea kettle...the deer hollowed every single one...the bigger they are the less effect the freezing temps have on them ..in other words they last longer into the winter even if the freeze then it gets warm...smaller ones turn to mush
  7. Paula the trick is in the water we keep a gallon container in the frig at all times just for making coffee, has to be very cold to start..Even though it is heated in the maker...makes a difference...we're Dunkin people..
  8. That's strange I hit edit to correct a spelling and hit send...WNYBH's doe picture popped into the post?????
  9. I can tell you one thing...I have checked the farmers corn...Stuff the deer have pull down... he needs to get up here and chop!!!!...lol
  10. Well at least you got a shot...lol after Mr B's little phone calling I haven't had a decent deer in range to even draw back on.I'm really still doe hunting but they are all spooked up...never fails after first week the doe lose their minds...
  11. Just had a yearling doe and tiny fawn eating under the apple tree..fawn still nursing. Doe all spooked up.20 min..then up into neighbors sanctuary. Pretty sure in sight of our drive to get in. Oh well she'll be a well fed doe next year. Surprised not to see spots on that little thing.
  12. Freaking heart attack! Come around a bush to have a deer literally snort in my face! Runs I get to stand hit top rung and it,st as rtz snorting again 15 or so ft away from sound. What can ya do but laugh.
  13. Wow...it's COLD out there! 30 and lightest of wind...good luck
  14. I've been doing crock pot dinners..tonight was garden carrots topped by herbed chicken breast covered in mushroom soup covered in stuffing soaked in 2 cups of broth...broccoli as the other veggie
  15. Hang in there Eddie...better days are ahead
  16. Waited and waited and their regular time for showing up..then it was close...walk back home and on the drive I see a bunch of deer standing under a crab apple next to the road where I cross over to the house drive...lol figures. I honestly think they are bedding . Up on the neighbors ,which is higher than us and watching me come in.
  17. Back at it in garden blind..don't trust winds to be in any of the stands..so far on squirrel . Most apples on the griud...frown
  18. 10%...just got soaked AGAIN going to get the mail...Hope this afternoon is better... PS.... half a cup of blk water came out of my over boot when I pulled them off...good thing I wore ski socks today...
  19. This is how my Dr. explained it. In the cold even though we might be noticing it at first our body adjusts to keep our core warm. To do this it starts a slow "shut down " of our extremities. This means less blood flow and heat for our muscles so even when we think we are OK we aren't this is another reason for cramping like in your back and legs..so heavy fleece vests...keep the core warm Also head and feet you lose more heat from you neck up than one realizes. I wear a full hood ..light one on warmer days and heavy on cold with a beanie over that.
  20. Thanks Jeremy...it wouldn't have helped..I wear the rubber over shoes on my hunting boots . This really cuts sound that my soles make...well when my foot sunk in the muck and got stuck...I'd gone up to my ankle...water seeped in between the outer rubber boot and the hunting boot and sat there soaking in and getting colder and colder...my foot stayed dry but dang my foot about froze!..lol sucked heat from my core...also forgot my seat pad...cold mesh steel on a windy day... MY bad!
  21. Ya...I left at 5:30 and it was getting light enough to see around me by the time I hit the stand! Then with all the rain we had I dang near lost a boot and had both feet stuck...all you could hear in the dark was ...SSSSSHHHHHHLLLLUCK!... LOL....right up to my ankle...
  22. LOL I sent a message some where from my phone..obviously not here.. picture of huge limb across trail I walked down this a.m....lucky..What a PITA the entire 3/4 mile was branches huge and medium limbs trees and tree tops..literally every 2 ft. it's a wonder I saw any deer. Go to leave and see the deer that circled, out of range, had come in behind me and walked my foot prints out the way I came in..I thought I heard something coming in a couple of times...no it was them leaving. I can't see behind me at all. BTW it was a fox not fix...though...with the crew next door...wouldn't surprise me Perhaps I don't understand wind direction..I thought when the weather man says a NW wind the the wind would blow mainly FROM the north with angle coming from the west as well...Sun sets in the West lakes are to my North yet there I sat with the wind blowing across me headed toward where the sun sets,,,did get some N winds and they were cold...10% chance of rain I'm soaked...I'll have to put my gear in the drier for this after noon...Glad to see those doe and fawn and the 7pt was slow and broadside at 28 so maybe his daddy will make a showing..It was fun watching how sneaky he was coming out of that swamp..I had done a short predawn rattling and grunting...I think that is what had him sneaking Around in there..
