  1. Thats a dandy!...looks like he had a lot of grey around his face cool
  2. ...hahaha...now that explains an online personality disorder ;D
  3. Ya I thought all that summer floor space would have filled in some...but from what you say not happening...they will also barter a bit on prices...picked up a 29.00 bag of seed for 19...I noticed it was miss marked and when I had them scan it I told them I could just plant my own mix..they offered to drop price...free to me so I said OK...nice they did that 10.00 is ten dollars ...don't like they never have my muzzy 4 replacement blades in stock...
  4. I hit us as well and kept us awake for a couple of hours....dang it hammered the plots and filled up the Pond area
  5. We have their card...I average 240.00 to 300.00 of free merchendise from them every year....can't complain
  6. they had rotating clouds on radar out your way....sounded like it got wild...we're just getting lightening...no rain....figures planted last plot of secret spot today.....

    First Rubs

Every thing here is still in velvet....this really seems early...not bear cubs huh?...But I never see rubs until late Oct on our place any ways...and they dont start scrapes here until late either...know they're here do to sightings and cams...just never see a lot of those signs....then again I stay pretty clear of the woods from Sept to bow opener
  8. Well I have to tell you ...hard maple-red oak and ash are the three most numerous trees on the property...maple being the most....that tree was leaning 60 degree angle over the lane way and not good for timber....and maple sugaring makes a logger cringe
  9. I just got done planting secret spot and I cut timber today to open up an area to plant a combo of secret with two diffirant turnips....Mr.B won't let me use the chain saws when alone...so I learned how to cut down trees with my trusty stihl pole pruner ;D ...took me a few years to get to trees this big...lol...cut a lot of trees today..planting tomorrow....all the brush was made into a blind and two "cover" walls to block view of my going to stand....piled lots of 5ft logs to dry a bit then cut for fire wood
  10. I have to say I wouldn't try it...and unless you have someone with you to help put it up....that would be a mighty sketchy climb to secure it...even with the downs...the weather has been dry in a lot of places and the trees are in a weekend state....remember even a good hard maple can have the top snap out of it...happens on our place a lot...good luck...be safe
  11. We have lots and lots of poults...but we're on the side of a 2 mile long hill...that gives them plenty of good nesting areas
  12. Well the area where the wing joins the body would be the spot...when picturing a turkey...... that would be the under side of him when dress out...not the breast area...if in the case of a strutting tom there or with his back toward you...him facing directly away where his tail feathers end at the base of spine....this is unless you are using that special broadhead made JUST for cutting off their heads...but you'd have to ask someone else if those are legal in NY...they may not be...just like hunting turkeys with rifles isn't legal in gun season...good Luck
  13. Hmmm had that bad storm..then last night well pump died....nice day today and I finished up the secret spot plot...now need to cut some timber and finish very last plot with combo of secret spot and bankart turnips...all other plots are growing great....corn is almost over my head and the sorghum is 3-4ft tall ...should be heading out soon...and it is now covering the soy beans and those are putting on a lot of new growth...deer and turkey are loving it...
  14. 73 here at home...68+ another 50 at camp...rarely use the 50 we have permission to...camp has 9 stands...and one blind...here at home 26 stands 2climbers...2 shooting blinds/houses 14 ground blinds...2 portable blinds... I group the blinds according to the wind and with in a 100yards no less than 150 ft...the blinds are placed scattered around before and between stand set ups....that way if I'm going in or coming out and glass deer between me and my destination...I can always get to cover and not spook them and get a chance at them should they come my way...pic shows a typical blind....
  15. I thought you ALWAYS have to have your tags clearly visible on your back or person any time in the field hunting.... I see where the plastic card would be great for fishing...that way you can just leave all other field tags home and safe
  16. fall hunting...yes the pics are of hens and poults...but they are healthy and there's got to be some Toms left from spring and future toms for a couple years down the road in these pics
  17. with the rain we've had...I thought the ground was in good shape...then went down and tilled up and unexpected plot..so no burn down....it was the plot in pic...the drought pretty much destroyed it....was hoping for another year or two but ...thems the breaks....any how it was raining but I decided to till as long as thunder held off...holy crud...it was rock hard and totally dry ...the only wet area was 1/4 in on top of ground...mind you this is a sandy loam thats been worked several times over the years...but in a perennial for that last few years...Well the rain got so bad I had to stop..then spent a good part of the morning in our basement...after unplugging every thing...ya it was a very bad storm..went to Dr.( actually to make an appt...and they had an opening) and my BP was 154/103...after I'd taken meds....did I mention I'm afraid of lightening Bet that ground is good to go for planting now it was raining buckets...we need it
  18. first off...I feel your pain with rocks...and you can pick ...rake what ever for years...then disc a little deeper than normal and your back to square one...aauuggh As far as the plot and deer I stand behind milorganite...and I've had guys here in NY take that advise and pm me to say they tried sunflowers for years and the deer would destroy them and now they have plots 6ft tall....test it...try a hard hit crop ...half with milorganite half with out...you may be pleased
  19. not sure you'd want to put urea on new growing plants....on land not planted yet yes ...but the urea may burn your crop...IMO...looking good though
  20. I believe that is a law referring to only wild killed deer
  21. Same as G-man said for my area of reg 8....acorns are on the ground...but beech are looking decent
  22. Boy I NEVER saw this coming...but PART of your comments I agree with SITs...really..."I'd bird watch and fish more"...I'm not one to walk off a cliff just because the guys in front or to the side are doing the same.... BUT...I also can't say enough of how sick and tired I am of all the whining..."My hunting spot got sold or bought up"...I mean where the hell have you guys been all your lifes?...you didn't see all that farm land you use to pass on your drives.... turning into houses?...was the shiny new truck...boat car...vacation ...toy what ever..... that important? That you were blinded to the fact land is being gobbled up into 5 acre lots? I don't feel sorry for any of you sorry...I live on my vacation spot...I drive a Van and cavalier that cost 200.00 each and I'm afraid to wash because of the rustI leave behind...waited 15 years and took a part time job to buy a bow...because I have land to use that bow on any time I want...but see Those are MY priorities...and I don't feel bad that I limit my lands to my family and 1-2 close friends...and say stay the hell out to everyone else : /
  23. Thanks........ and yep a lot of help from the goats and limed her good this spring as well
  24. wdswtr...is saying it right....if you are unsure ...just Google ...how long do weed seeds survive....and you may be surprised over 80 yrs for some...it really is impossible to kill 90% in one season and each year you happen to go just a bit deeper...because the soil is now loose....more will come up and when you chopping up weed roots into little pieces...well some of those weeds propagate ...from root cuttings....now you have a mess It's fine to do what is stated above..... and the field is worked all spring through summer....not giving anything a chance to grow,,,but I'd still go with annuals first year or two...to really save time and money down the road IMO and experience ...good luck
