  1. Would be nice....increase trespassing fines as well... I know I guy that had his wife and a friend of hers go get her bow lisence years ago....then went as far as to have her learn to shoot a light bow ...just in case....he takes the "practice" buck on hers and then brings it home and takes pics of her holding the deer..he saves his tag for the "trophy" buck...Ya know...the type of guy you'd like to take soccer practice on > ...but see turning him in wouldn't do any good...he attends all the banquets ....has a business that does "services" for local authorities...and a certain shade of brown around his lips....when the friend refused him her tag ...well a fall out occurred...if ppl knew just how much this kind of thing really happens...Well they don't or won't believe it...and this guy is one of those ..Special disposition ppl I hope he's reading this.........and his buddies
  2. Your right and I was in a hurry...when I get to thinking about this... emotions pop out into my finger tips...doesn't help I'm a lousy typist either ...I suppose the 5yrs with a recurve or compound could work with the " I couldn't be bothered " long time hunters...but some sort of time limit with regular( hand held draw) bow should be required... ...ppl walking around in the woods with their finger on a 3# trigger with out a single clue as to how far a deflected arrow/bolt can go and just how much damage they can cause...... scares me...and I've been hearing foolish rumblings of wanting to lowering the safety distance for bows!!..sorry I live in the woods no way!! ... then how many ...Oh the gun misfired gun accidents happen...Seriously ...thanks to the paper we know DEC has allowed at least one person out there that shot himself in the foot twice!!...Do we want this in bow season?..If the messes out there now ...can't be cleaned up.... how foolish is it to create more? Then you have the felons that can't own a gun but can still hunt with bow...with "special dispensation"...I know of 3 in our area a lone...sorry not right...that happens a lot ...a nieghbor looked it up...Aauuughh :
  3. Ps...I have to run ....but...One more little vent....What in the blue blazes is it with this society that everyone has to take ..wait for it..."What THEY think" is the easy way...That is the answer I've been getting from guys that have hunted half their lives....Well ya ...I haven't bow hunted never wanted to.... but now with cross bows "being so easy" I'd get my bow license...my stomach flips every time...I swear I just want to punch them!
  4. CHC.......not that that idea was a great one by any means....but you actually did see the point in it....the problem really isn't time constraints...or woodsman ship....it's that There is no compromise on EITHER side...neither side wants to give in even a little I don't want them at all...not shy in saying so...with the exception of disabled only.....I would think anyone reading the idea could figure out the reason...but at least I'm willing to give a little....and the only reason I have such a problem..is the I'M SORRY GUYS...the "education " given at these courses...I'm sorry when you take a course to get an important license...and the test is beyond simple...by God if you don't pass... then you need to take the course AGAIN...NOT be given the answers to pass...please ! Then also realize ...many ppl don't have good role modles to start with...make them go out and handle the damn weapon what ever it is...if they can't shoot.......DON"T pass them until they can! Really how simple are these things?...If able bodied ppl were too unimpressed with bow hunting or the work involved in taking game in bow hunting then they should still be unimpressed with it...period
  5. Like Wisconsin? Gee I see no opinions on my idea...oh well
  6. Lots.... > ....and I don't want to hear but at least it's a purchased tag crap....30 yrs ago when I went to take......... my then a few hours gun course...the guy said who's here to hunt and who's here to get a tag for their husband...a room full of woman and just 2 of us were hunting....are you kidding ...they should have been told to leave I can't imagine say hey...Mr. B. I want you to go down to the club and sit through the archery certification course...I need another tag :
  7. Well ....We all..... husband son father in-law got the life time...our son doled out over 900.00 for all of his....now our daughter hunts as well...but not last year....for the few times she gets to hunt a year due to work and in general life...she wouldn't spend the money...when you grow up hunting for meat the cash verses benefits changes...and that is going to keep new hunters out of the field ....then that tricks down to out of the stores...so they aren't loosing just conservation funds but a great deal in tax revenue from product sales...that goes to the general tax revenue....and we all know just how much that can ad up to ...but see.....how much is that ever considered?....I ML...but by the time I finish an entire season of bow and then reg gun....It's so close to the holidays and I'm usually too tired ...I didn't bother getting the life time ML...and I didn't by over the counter either....If prices go up...I won't....I can use my bow then if I have tags left...which I usually do...there goes the tax revenue on Blk powder ...bullets...ect
  8. Every thing you mentioned G-Man....love every back breaking ....sweaty.... bug bitten.... sun burned... frozen toed..... hammered fingered minute of it....lol ;D
  9. I see your in a car...how close to the road?...and actually in yrds how big is the area?...I'm a woman and have done these areas on our place ...mostly by hand and by my self so it's seriously...not that hard...staggered plants are good...most cases lime is a MUST...and Mulberry trees and plums(prune type) are great...get ever bearing mulberry...blue berry... cherry and quince bushes are good...hazel nut bushes some before and after pics
  10. Fine as long as we understand what was being said ....and no he didn't...this type of thing is happening all over this and other states ...hunters or not...a woman in Naples....a older woman over by Buffalo...refused to stop feeding deer in a park and went to jail...ppl posting pics on the web....Hey NY and a lot of other states are hurting for money....one person can cover a lot of ground on the web racking up fines....kinda like cameras at stop lights....pic up your mail and surprise....cell phone usage..... not coming to full stops ...running lights ect....ect.......Hell you taken a good look at some of those Aeriel photos lately?....let me tell you...the tax accessor has....my nieghbor put an out house of in the woods....and got asked about it ???
  11. Wow that is NOT what I was saying!...what I said was the DEC surfs the web...what I said is you put out a lot of info ...what I said was there was a guy on the web ..some where last year ...posting pics of deer eating out of his bird feeder...the DEC found him and fined him...I read about it in the paper... Where I was going with that....obviously you didn't see....is be careful of what info you post...that is all...but hey sorry :
  12. 20ga deer or turkey........I wouldn't hestitate to shoot a bear with it either...and it's a roller on yotes
  13. never one to fear being tromped on....good for all that get it listed ....but I will fight to the end to keep them out of Livingston....and I enjoy using my Remington down at camp...but still use the shotgun more....Livingston county is just too crowded now ...and this is where I live
  14. Remember not knowing the law is no excuse to a ECO...and it doesn't matter who did what ...if your on that land hunting they got you too...so lets recap.....Pics on web....faces on web....hunting location on web.....DEC surfs the web... I believe thats how one NYS guy got fined...showing deer eating out of his bird feeder : .... on the web....See where I'm going with this? Nice pics though
  15. Here's one for ya....from a non member of any organization...include Cross bows in regular season....BUT with the restrictions 1.) Anyone that is not disabled and has never gone through archery certification nor purchased an archery license but has hunted 5yrs or more...is not allowed to hunt with a cross bow 2.) all able bodied first time archery hunters must hunt with either recurve or compound bow for 5yrs before being allowed cross bow privileges That could live with
  16. Trimming and cutting trees....this is the time I do some serious trimming and cutting....the deer take full advantage of both the browse and the cover...not easy in this deep snow ...but it is worth the effort in helping them make it to the next thaw and gives me a head start on both plot work...where time spent needs to be concentrated on soil not trees.....and fire wood....get that wood drying and cut so all I need to do is haul and stack......Who's gotten their start?
  17. Hey I finally made a vote that counted! ....Great story and Congrats Frank....
  18. Opps forgot the reason for pic....this is the last time we've seen them but.... that was a trail I'd found between water and a couple of lrg bramble patches....look and see the little twigs sticking out of the ground....all of them use to be 6-8 foot tall Elderberry brush...good thing trimming increases there growth in the spring....
  19. First....that was increase litter size...Opps :-[ .... The yotes here have killed our adult goats...and every spring manage at least one kid...they have killed our chickens...and I was circled going in to hunt predawn....Killed the nieghbors sheep....anothers turkeys and ducks Your right they do need to open the season year around As far as I'm concerned the only thing yotes are good for is feral cats...and they have helped with that
  20. we've had a couple of rear tines....one was a sears and the newer one is Orange ....I think a Husquvarna...and it works great ...knock knock knock.....it has and auto shut off if it gets caught on roots or his a rock too big or one gets caught...I believe it's a counter till but ...hey we have rocky ground and I till in wooded areas...so yep it still bounces when it is hitting rock
  21. They have been looking good here in the finger lakes hills....but since we received the rain then freezing rain they have moved pretty much off us and into the pine groves and swamps around us...there they have a bit less snow and the streams are still flowing and accessible...the problem now is the crust is thick enough for both yotes and domestic dogs to run on top of....from todays tracks ...they are out hunting big time....and we got another bout of rain then sleet and snow to top it off
  22. I see your point...but if you talk to guys that are actively hunting them and read many posts on the subject ...you'll also hear ya we took some many yotes out of an area and the next year or two there were 2x's as many...ppl saying that once you start taking them out the increase their breeding and little size. Perhaps that could account for the lack of I shot instead of I viewed a yote going by....me if it's out there in range ...I'm doing my best to drop it...but they've cost me a lot of $$$ >
  23. I'm looking as well...I was recommended to go with a PSE striker....went and held a few differant ones...I didn't like the grips on most...but the Striker fit me very nice...I have more bows to look at and then shoot the ones I've narrowed down to....I don't do change well ...but my Hoyt Raider/intruder is 15yrs old...it needs new string/harness...last time it cost 80.00 figure it's time to go for a lighter faster bow...and a little more let off
  24. Sorry Steve...what obscure hypothetical ?....Ppl release exotics all the time..whether they survive or not is another thing Now if you want the true reason I post what was said...here goes...OOhh wait ...I have no PROOF...other than my ears heard this...and he is one of very few DEC ppl I'd trust A person from the DEC and I were walking to a call they answered...not mine....we were chatting about this and I mentioned the lets say kitchen episode...and what he relayed to me was this...Listen we get the Cat calls all the time...pardon pun....many years ago there was a domestic cougar...in the southern tier that was found....and that started it ...well some ..workers (lets say)....decided theyed start the whole Blk panthers from south Carolina thing when asked...Mind you don't let that whole Carolina Panthers thing ...go over your head....Now I know that ...NOT ALL...but many DEC ppl aren't...lets say keen on the general public...but come on!...so since then I figure I'll give them what they wanted...and repeat the kitchen episode as often as possible...maybe ...just maybe...when the guys are sitting around the table having a coffee brake....they'll think 2-3x's on the next little jewel one of them comes up with...ya think : Do alot of DEC have a tough job ...yep...do they have to deal with over emotional ...government disliking ppl on a daily bases...yep...but I see.... that as all the more reason for them not to fuel the fire...sometimes it blows back to burn ya
