  1. Thanks to the weather man I had one tell me this morning...ya think they could get one day of wind direction and speed right???....It must have seen and heard me...I showed and spayed...washed all clothes in no scent stuff....mid week I will mow/rake trails before the rut gets in gear...First time in a few years the leaves have co-operated and dropped early...saw glimpses of three today
  2. congrats...I had a great opener as well...just after closing....I took pic on phone of 2 fawn that bedded under my new 6ft high blind...left me stuck way later than I wanted finally they leave and I turn to climb down the ladder and there are 5 doe watch me ....they didn't spook ...so there I stood on the top rung....until I couldn't see them...half way down there are 3 buck and 2 were good size and 2 more doe....nice....get to ground ...but I have to leave so spooked everyone...But...no blowing and snorting...just flags...This is why I have so many stands....that little gem will get a cooling off period...but still be in range sight ...Have to send pic to daughter so she can get it to my e-mail...had some really nice ones but erased them trying to save them....forgot the camera :
  3. I've moved to the PC room...up so many times at night last few nights ...Mr B. not a happy camper :-\ .....I have to get up way before him and he's up at 4...so might as well let him get SOME sleep...lol....Dreams of bow hunting but coyote not deer?....then of arrow shattering and going through my hand ...thanks for that internet visual...and that my bow broke today... So I went out and practiced for the last time yesterday....first shot great ...but .. my bow soulded like a loose muffler on an idling car....got out allen wrenches and tightened every thing...noise gone ;D .....great practice and checked my 2 carbons every shot...on last shot I go to pull my arrow and only the shaft comes out ...no broad head or insert...the shaft has a 3in split in it....Thanking lucky stars on that one!!.....must have happened on impact....So I'm hoping all the scares are behind me and the season goes with out a hitch....now wheres that finger tab?.....hhhmm
  4. That if your in an area...like ours that has had heavy rains all summer...high winds can cause up rooting....and widow makers....So heads up and be safe....Have fun and good Luck!
  5. Depending on just how bad the wind is...I'll be hitting a ground blind or ladder stand in a BIG tree some place here.....I do travel the hour to camp but I haven't decide when this season.......I haven't seen a deer in 3 days ....pretty sure with this weather they are staying in the pines.....
  6. Thanks The pic shows the high side of stand....the other side is much lower...still enclosed but easy bow shots.....Mr. B doesn't bow hunt and none of the guys use my stands because most are 15-23 feet tall...this ones platform is 14ft....and most don't have guard rails....I can not get any of them to use safety harnesses > ....He said he'd use the stand if the rails were 40 inches high...so I compromised and did one side for him and the other for me
  7. I did this to 2 of my built stands this year....and Sportsmans guide is have a sale ....ladder stand blind for 29 dollars.....
  8. Opps....... luv my two climbers...ones a Tree lounge ....but We have had healthy looking maples ....big ones...with the tops just blow out of them....the Idea of being strapped to a tree and have it snap off ...has kept me from climbing the last couple of years... ???
  9. I love my built stands...ladder stands and a couple of hang on...builts are checked and re checked and I am harnessed in before stepping on platform...same for all others ..but..they all have chains and ratchet straps holding them in place...the hang ons have 2 ratchets and one chain...even one of my built ones have chains holding it as a back up...it's in a windy area
  10. First I Totally disagree with SIT position...for one thing night or not and even posted or not It is Trespassing in NY and doing so with a rifle should lead to an arrest period.... But as far as night/rifle is concerned ...Yote season is open Next ..my nieghbor had a car parked along his land...we didn't recognize...Took the plate ...called the cops...they got there just after the thieves left...but not after kicking in his back door and stealing all his guns and bow...sorry SIT's...this isn't never land ...its the real world with nasty SOB's living in it...the guy just down from him ...they cleaned out his home ...loading everything into his pick up and destroyed the inside before stealing the pick up....both theses people were hit 2x's...out here in the country
  11. You to Ed...and get them girls out....I taught our daughter and son to bow hunt way back when....Mr. B wont bow hunt....they have both grown up going to camp and hunting..... her first was a 6pt in bow and then an 8pt first year in gun...our son has 2 doe under his belt..and hoping to take a buck at his own house this year in archery...They all go to camp the first week and I hunt here at home(trespassers > )...but we do get time together at camp Nothing like a warm wood fire ...good food... laughs and gin rummy...watching the smiles when some one tags out...I luv the fact at 28 and 24 our son and daughter hunt the same stand together...and still mange to get deer with all the talking
  12. thanks for the tip...but that thing was made by a man I believe :-[ ...See woman still have to partially disrobe as it were....lol...I learned a long time ago...NO Coffee or tea for me!
  13. It is usually getting light way before legal sunrise...I like going in under cover of darkness and the first day the deer will still be moving back to their bedding areas well after legal sunrise 6:45-7:45am...I go in 1 1/2 hours before light...get settled in set up and relaxed...listening for other early morning activities....buck fights...animal movements and so forth......After that first week end ...movements change...every body around has smells and grunts ...tic tic rattle...crunching through the leaf covered woods...they start coming off the feeding areas much earlier and start going into the mid day and very late afternoon routines....being a woman...I stay put until...well my bladder says different :-[ ...You guys have it easy and much more discreet...but I now have several blind enclosed tree stands
  14. After my mother passed ...I lived with my grandparents and went to the Holcomb school....I had relatives living in Groveland all my life....I started out in Dansville...lived in ...Florida...Conesus...Piffard...Avon...Perkinsville...and now here
  15. Eddie that in the hills of Groveland...or in the flats...I have met a few guys that hunt the flats...pretty huge deer in there...I use to live in Groveland station many years ago when they actually had a small grocery store...restaurant and a bar...Attended the Catholic church there.....
  16. So ER hows that thumb coming along....I hope you can get out and hunt...Chin up....two weeks after the dog bit half my pinky finger off...and the surgeon finished and repaired the amputation ...I had physical therapy and was able to hold and shoot my bow...I took this 8pt day 2 of the season...but dragging and gutting one handed was...not pretty... Thank God I got him in the JD bucket...but not before I dropped the bucket on his rack ...breaking it...Called dad in law to hang him for me....So point is ...make sure you have help a call away...Good Luck
  17. Seeing I am the wife ...but... the hunter I only use non scented detergent in my washer....and Clean my clothes in A-Way...then to clean the dryer....I wash a load of towels...Take one hand towel and soak it in scent eliminator and toss it in the dryer.... then I wash my clothes and dry them with a bandanna soaked in scent eliminator
  18. Trails finished here yesterday...camp Monday...Winter rye planted yesterday.......still practicing from my stand position...need to wear the new boots a bit more but they are GREAT.... I set up some supplies in the blind.... need to wash clothes and find sm. rack to my decoy....and not look out my front door to find 2 very nice bucks feeding 40yrds off the front porch.....It causes a lack of sleep
  19. Well Heres my take on it...wind matters... BUT....Through the 30 plus years I've hunted here and at camp this is the MAIN morning /evening patterns I observe... The deer move with the sun...I say this because in the morning...The deer start moving as the sun is rising....They move to the west as the sun slowly rises in the east....in the evening they start moving to the east as the sun starts to set in the west..This being said It could be just the hills...both home and camp are in steep hill country....The sun rises pushing the clod evening air out in front of it...you've all felt that sudden cold rush as the sun peeks over the horizon...then in the evenings the air is warmer at the top of the hills ...why valleys get the first frosts and we don't...they move to the warmer temps.... Just my take on it....so many ways to view things...each of us may be right due to location
  20. Well I raked the bean stems off...noticed a lot of seed ..not pods on the ground...after the sun came out I took the tiller late in the day and broke ground ...and yes a bit of a mess but workable..... did the 20yrd x10yrd spot in front of my pine stand set....so it will be winter rye big plot of turnips and then more winter rye to draw them out of the woods on the other side....DR. problem so still have beans to cut and rake today...before I till...Lets hope leaving the equipment there will discourage the turkey.....I I'd like to get more rye than I did the corn they dug up
  21. Actually ...I do...thanks for taking notice ;D
  22. I started out with a 50 yr old Kodiak Bear recurve...then went to the Hoyt Raider/Intruder compoud....so12-14 yrs?and I'm still shoot her
