  1. Chickens on the grill, beets on the stove, pasta salad ready to go.
  2. There's some thing I know our birds will be eating now and for the next few weeks..wild strawberries. A good portion of our place is just covered in flowering wild strawberries, which everything loves.
  3. Mr B was stopped getting ready to turn up our road and saw a crow fly by with a field mouse moving in it's beak...He Was surprised they would hunt live rodents. So I'm not surprised turkey would eat /kill live prey...though might have been self defensie ...lol
  4. Fanny off... I couldn't find anything to watch on Netflix,so decided to click on true stories from the ER..Ok some gross, lots OMG scary..but hahaha laugh my fanny off for the bizarre ,stupid,,just plain crazy!!!!...and you guys..seriously you guys..hahahaha
  5. Best spot on the place is our rose entangled swamp with its running under sod streams.
  6. But lots of satisfaction...
  7. Good God...The bear that stood on it's hind legs leaning on the truck that one morning was taller than me but no where near as big as those bear...That was scary enough, I can't imagine having a live bear that size so close...We have more than a few around here ,not so big I'm afraid to go out at night in the woods, yet
  8. I was up at 4 and walking the "grand pups" and Angel. Pouring rain and heavy fog. I got back wiped them all down and went back to bed. I had felt a twinge in my feet and checked them out to see a faint webbing beginning to grow.
  9. Lasagne it is..brownies baking amd filling the house with ohhh so nice coca smell...Lasagna cooking as,well...it is so cold ,dark, and dank here!
  10. So on this fall like day cold and raining...I made two dinners today for Mr B to choose from. chicken breast marinating in state fair chicken marinade , garden beets, and some other veggie with a tri-spiral pasta salad. OR Sausage lasagna with a tomato ,portobello mushroom, roasted red pepper sauce and several Italian cheeses with ricotta. hot buttered rolls and a baby greens mixed salad. Walnut brownies or Greek yogurt for dessert.
  11. I wouldn't and here is a good read for you: http://www.glyphosate.eu/glyphosate-mechanism-action Also I provided a few links in the "First time food plot" post that you should also read before using the boron/ borax not all soils are the same You need to know your soil before taking advise on additives as far as micro nutrients .. So many things to read and info to gather for informed decisions.
  12. It's always good to have a bit more comprehensive few when discussing some things... https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/boron-on-plants.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boron_deficiency_(plant_disorder) http://www.smart-fertilizer.com/articles/boron
  13. Grampy, Don't rush it...my therapists tell me those are one of the longest recovery times. Easy for set backs...That may have been to scare me into being careful and doing my exercises to delay having to go under the knife, as it were. I do understand the possible frustration though..after my accident and leg surgery the day before Easter one year..I was bed ridden for months , had another surgery and still in a walking cast when bow season arrived...took 2 full years before I didn't feel the "pressure" from the steel rod in my leg or feel the nut in my ankle. Now it's just a big scar and a faint memory, hang in and be well.
  14. Really ? You hunt no farm fields...which are "commercial" plots and the wood lots you hunt have no berry bushes or vines......Someone pasturing sheep/goats in them?...
  15. We use to get those ,pine and evening grosbeak...but not so much any more and they were seasonal ,didn't stay long. We are getting a bunch of different ones I do not know and many more orioles, cardinals, yellow finch...lost the red winged black birds when the hay field went to corn...lost a bunch of hawks as well as swallows. I miss them.
  16. You'll like those jersey giants, I have them and Plymouth rocks. One nasty bird that has always given me problems is the Rhode island reds...They have killed other birds and notorious egg eaters at least for me...Ah and they always are the ones to fly at the coop door, talons first when they hear me coming
  17. fertilizer isn't of great importance the first year but lime probably is and if you have no time or desire for a soil sample then grab soil soil and take a good whiff...an acid soil will have an acidic smell to it...sorta tingle the nose..lime lime lime. A OK soil will have a sweeter smell...Now wide ranges in that and it takes time and experience to know just how to close you are the are. Thing for a quick assessment at home test: https://www.thebalance.com/how-to-test-soil-acidity-alkalinity-without-a-test-kit-1388584
  18. Do you guys actually ever read what I write...never mind Rob your reply was an obvious answer to that... (-:l3
  19. Yes I know its more land management, but most think deer there. Also good to know what wild things to look for on public land. Of course you have the clovers..turkey love it for greens and bugging. Then yes those fruit trees, let me tell you the son of a guns will hop 3 ft for a peach and love pears, mulberry will feed them all summer through fall. Wild treats oaks , goose berry, current, hophorn, locust, may apples, wild apple, honey suckle and dogvwood brush Autumn olive, all the bramble and willd raspberry, wild rose. So much more but those are the obviouse easiest to recognize. Bugs... man look for a grass hopper hatch in spring..you can literally hear the leaf litter move in front of you as you walk. Beetles and they love red worms and grubs..bulb crops will grow both in great numbers. I leave winter grains for tall chick cover, bugging and seed. The WR is just showing the seed heads. Of course pine inthe fall pine cone seeds, beech, wild cherry, choke cherry basswood, maple seeds, wild boxwood. Wild grapes, wild peas ,and vetches. Flower heads. Fall turkey scout those hophorn, and beech...

  22. I know that my sister in-law use to live and in the area and bought all her cars there...I use to drive close by it on the way to work in Macedon every night as I recall.
  23. No not this year last I picked up 2 for 26.00 a piece...the price is based on size. These 2 are B-Dy gifts from my daughter, and I'm watching their dogs this weekend....she said they are taller than her and shes 5'6".
