  1. Just curious...does anyone else think that maybe these guys have had enough of being TV stars, and maybe the fallout from the patriarch's comments is exactly the spark they need to get out of their contract with A & E? I know I certainly wouldn't want my life under a microscope 24/7, scripted or not. I doubt they need the money at this point.
  2. I like a good joke or laugh as much or more than the next guy, even in bad taste at times. But this is just plain sad.
  3. 1). Don't like the idea of breaking up rifle season 2). Don't like the idea of 1 buck per season
  4. I've killed 3, and had bear that others have cooked....quite the contrary, it's very similar to venison, but a little chewier, you just have to trim off all the fat when you butcher it. The most dangerous part of bear hunting is falling out of your stand. I'm assuming you'll be hunting with a rifle or slug gun, you have quite an advantage over the bear if he decides to become aggressive, but pretty doubtful that will happen. Just my $.02, but if you can swing the trip money-wise and it's a good chance you'll stay out of divorce court, I would go....life is too short. I'm good for at least 3 out-of-state hunting or fishing trips a year, and wouldn't trade the trophies and experiences for anything else in the world I can think of. Again, JMO, but you can probably find a cheaper, quality baited-bear hunt if you shop around; lots of camps in Canada offer fishing in the morning, and hunting in the afternoon (most productive time). But if you have your heart set on this trip, I'd say go for it!
  5. Back in my younger days, I used to have a T-shirt with Santa in the snow, 6 beer cans at his feet, and he was peeing the words "Merry Christmas". Funny thing was, when I wore it in public, most of the men who read it would snicker, most of the women would give me a cross look. No sense of humor I suppose.....
  6. Yeah, been there, done that, only with me it was fishing. I can't picture Mrs. out there in the woods getting her fancy shoes messed up, or losing her earrings, or using the great outdoors as a toilet. Now, maybe an old-time Indian squaw that knows how to cook, butcher deer, build a fire, and keep you warm in a cold cabin on a chilly night......
  7. A little boy asked his father, "Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?" And the father replied, "I don't know, son, I'm still paying for it." After a quarrel, a wife said to her husband, "You know, I was a fool when I married you." And the husband replied, "Yes, dear, but I was in love and didn't notice it." A woman was telling her friend , "It is I who made my husband a millionaire." "And what was he before you married him." Asked the friend. The woman replied, " A multi-millionaire". She left him on the sofa when the phone rang, and was back in a few seconds. "Who was it?" he asked. "My husband," she replied. "I better get going," he said. "Where was he?" "Relax. He'll be late, he's playing poker with you." My friend married a doctor. At a certain point he told her: "You need to do something to spice up our love-making". Shortly thereafter, he came home and found her in bed with another man who is also an M.D."Why?" asked her hubby."You said I needed to do something to spice up our love-making; I just wanted to get a Second Opinion",
  8. Thanks guys. I promised Mrs. Uncle Nicky I wasn't going to get any more deer mounted, but I guess I'll have to break my word....
  9. Didn't put him on a scale, but I'd guess he's about 150#. Deer in the south don't grow as large as our deer, probably because the winters aren't as hard. I went with a guy who ran an ad on the Texas hunting forum. Not a "real outfitter", but a guy from OK who knows the area real well and leases about 10,000 acres, and sells some hunts to make up expenses. Pretty much a DIY deal, he showed me where some stands were, and I was on my own most of the time, but he kept in touch a few times a day by cell phone. No food or lodging, but we met up a few times for lunch & dinner. Biz-R-O-World- I'll send you a PM with more details.
  10. Just got back from the Texas panhandle, killed this deer on Sunday. No, NOT high fence, and YES, they had a few corn feeders, but wheat sprouts were the primary food source that I saw, most of the hunts were over wheat fields and in mesquite thickets. 1-lunged this guy from 145 yards, found him about 200 yards from the scene of the crime. One of the guys in camp had a track dog, which made life a little less difficult. Hooray for me!!
  11. This has been going on for as long as I've been hunting. Locally, it's the buck-shotters emptying their guns on deer drives, they can't possibly be aiming judging by how fast they empty their guns. Not much you can do about it, besides setting a good example & only take ethical shots.
  12. Doubtful, he's probably a little over-sexed. It will no doubt lead to his downfall very soon.
  13. I've killed a few, the meat isn't bad, similar to venison, just a little tougher. But these were in Maine & Canada, so I'd assume a bear that was eating fish, roadkill, or garbage might be a little rank.
  14. Killed a nice 9-pointer in Allegany county Sunday afternoon. 3rd decent buck I've shot on this property in 4 years. Did I ever mention I love rifle hunting? Saw the first bear on this property in 8 years, and busted a nice flock of turkeys on the way in Saturday morning. Hooray for me!!!
  15. Love the sound of opening day in the woods, whether it's PA or NY. For me it's the nostalgia & tradition. In the big woods up north, it's the all-day barrage of rifle fire, and the quads at the end of the day dragging deer out. Locally it's the buckshotters unloading their guns (are they aiming or just spraying?), and the deer drivers yelling "YOOOHHHH BUCKKKK!!!". Nothing else quite like it that I can think of.
  16. Turkey- Mossberg 835 Waterfowl- Remington 870 Squirrels, clay birds, rabbits- Stoeger Uplander All 12 gauges. I have a Mossberg 500 with a slug barrel that I've used for deer & hogs, but I don't especially like it, just doesn't feel comfortable. I keep hearing how great the H & R single shot slug gun is, maybe I'll look into this.....
  17. Probably around 6:30. Have to walk a new guy to the stand he will be sitting in, and then up the mountain to where I plan to sit. No rush getting out there, they usually start pouring onto my property from the state land about 8 or 9.
  18. Yes sir, I am ready!!! I'll be In Allegany county at the crack of dawn Saturday AM. BOOM!! BOOM!! BOOM!!! Love it!!
  19. Agree 100%. Trying to "manage" someone else's property so that you can be the sole hunter or person who uses the property is a thankless and eventually fruitless proposition. At the end of the day, this is still the landowner's decision, and eventually someone else will get the OK to hunt there or ride quads as well. Give the landowner too much grief and you'll wind up getting the boot, and have to start all over again somewhere else. As mentioned, the only way you'll ever have complete control will be to buy your own property, or lease some land and get a signed contract stating you have sole permission to be there. Good luck!!
  20. Better use a rifle, it's raining outside today.
