  1. I'm with you on all aspects of the above quoted post. The time I like the owl hooter best is when it's very early and I haven't a clue where a gobbler is but he COULD be right under my nose. Then my first hoots are short....."who cooks for you". Then I'll listen for a minute or two before giving the longer "who cooks for you, who cooks for you alllllllllllll" Then listen up!! But sometimes it doesn't work like it should......as you stated! This bird was from May 2nd last year. I hooted my way down a grass driveway to a cabin, the driveway has to be 1000' long and runs right through the woods. I can move quietly and stay out of sight for the most part because I know where they usually roost. Well, I never got a response and that had me slightly baffled as I was positive there was at least one longbeard in there. I felt like I was walking on egg shells but kept going further. It was getting to be legal shooting time and I hand't heard a gooble anywhere yet. I got to the front of the cabin and mooched around to the back side and took a wiz break. While pondering my next move I figured I might as well be the first crow on the block to start squawking. Damn if I don't get a hard gobble 75 yards away! Just a few minutes later he flew down and got smashed, while I was within feet of the old cabin. Loving my Faulks!
  2. You have a woodie coming. I just bought you one off Ebay. IIRC you have a birthday coming up in March???
  3. If you have a bird located but just can't pinpoint his location; gentle half throttle "caws" should get an answer. If, after a bit a bird has gone silent and you are afraid to make a hen call (or you already have and haven't and don't want to over do it) and would like to move positions on him, a crow call could illicit a shock gobble. If you DON'T have a gobbler located, about 4 sharp "caws" is what I use. If'n I had a clue, YouTube would be a good way to make it clearer......... Or.............I could just meet you at Mardee's and we could roust the local birds a bit!!
  4. Say WHAT? So this explains your absence lately, congrats on the new squeeze. Sounds like a winner!
  5. 5'11" and about the same or less but maybe more. The Ameristep Grizzly is the one I'd suggest............................. http://www.basspro.com/Ameristep-Grizzly-Tree-Steps-12Step-Kit/product/33660/ They aren't easy to start but a tap on the back of the step with an axe/hatchet will get 'er going. One more thing: make sure you're using a GREAT climbing belt and flip line.
  6. Yup, probably got it in 1981, 35 years ago like you mentioned. I don't know if I've used it in 30 years though. Just a little dusty!!
  7. A brace of the ONLY crow call I'd ever own.......Faulks C50 (yupper, wood calls!) And all the players in a family shot..............
  8. The only other owl hooters I've owned............ P.S Olt on right and Primos on left: (the Olt was modified long ago but I was never thrilled with it, hence the Primos purchase) This is the go-to hooter for me. Thousands of miles on it...........
  9. Yup, the first one I ever bought. More pics to come.......
  10. Hmmmmmmmm, A. Zelinski? OR............ G.S.Wasinsky?
  11. I use my owl hooter every hunt but if I had to choose between it and a crow call, the crow call would win, hands down. But then again, I'm one of those dreaded Run N Gun turkey hunters, most of the time.
  12. You're right Vinny, I AM worried. Worried about WTF is for supper.
  13. Big guy huh, how big is big? I use screw in steps and have been for 25+ years. All my hang-on stands utilize screw-in's except one.............. I'm not interested in the bolts.
  14. 4 degrees at 9:10pm Sunday night here in the Buff.
  15. Well I'll be dipped, Happy Lunar New Year! Hopefully the red envelopes are bursting at their seems.
  16. I could go the easy route and just Google "Lucky Money" or I could hear it from you.............................. Talk to me Goose.
  17. I new of one local Gamey in Ontario County......he stopped by my friends fairly often to check carcass tags and shoot the breeze. One time I saw him working Naples Creek on Opening day, undercover. He seemed like a good egg. Probably retired now............
  18. Happy St Valentine's Day you guys and gals. What'd you do???? (or is it just getting started??) My wife had to work this afternoon so we went out for a bite yesterday. Card, candy and a dozen Walmart (don't even think of giving me crap about that) roses topped off my end of the deal. I know lots of folks don't fret much about it but I was just curious what you lugnuts did.
  19. No, not my neck of the woods. BUT..........................I TRIED to go to the local gun show here in WNY today. I picked up my buddy late this morning around 11am and we headed to the show. Unfortunately we got there and nobody was there.........yup, I screwed up. I thought the show was at the Hamburg Fair Grounds..............nope, it was at the Event Center on Main St in Clarence. Damnnnnnnn!! So, instead we stopped at Mighty Taco for a quick lunch. I dropped my buddy off at his place then I stopped at Cabela's for spin around the joint, man were they crowded! Must be all the good mothers, wives and girlfriends showering their man with gifts??? (let's go with that thought, OK?)
  20. More information needed here: Does your wife want a WOOD burning fireplace or GAS? Do you have natural gas at your door step now? LP? Oil? How many acres of woods do you own or have available to cut wood from? Truck, tractor, trailer, chainsaw, axe, maul, wedge are only part of the tools needed to burn your own wood. Oh yea, you'll need plenty of elbow grease, too. OR, will you just buy your wood? Gas burning fireplaces are quite appealing these days!
  21. Who gets the prime cuts of meat? Hmmmmm....................
  22. It's the Kindle again.............. Oh yea, NICE table cloth Paula.
  23. The generosity just brings a tear to my eye............................................
