  1. Love me some 80gr Barnes TTSX out of my 243. Kills like a lightning bolt.............
  2. I didn't and sure as hell wouldn't vote for him but there was something on the 6pm news tonight about him having some stern words for the state teachers union. Now that Mario has died tonight it'll probably take the heat off King Andy for a bit........maybe.
  3. Too bad, RIP Mario. His son was in Buffalo today, actually beating on the school teachers union.
  4. Electrical due to the gale force winds that night I believe.
  5. Looks like some pretty generous people have been donating. It'll sure be appreciated by the family. https://life.indiegogo.com/fundraisers/hayton-family-farm I have heard that many in the community have helped out at the scene too. Some pretty good words have been spoken about the DEC and local officials too. Nice to see such an outpouring of good people helping out other good people.
  6. Cheap easy recoiling ammo is easy to find for a 243, not so much for a 308/30-06. If you start them out wrong you could loose them right off the bat. How about starting them off with a nice easy recoiling gun that fits them well then as they mature and IF they have the desire then they can grab an 30-06. Someone looking to "hunt larger game" should be able to trade that 243 in or scrape together the cash for another second gun. Not much you can't do with a 243 in the lower 48 anyway. Elk and grizzly wouldn't be on the "to do" list though.........
  7. Leupold VX 2 Ultralight 3-9 8.8 oz (WRONG!) I was incorrect on the weight, it is 9.3 oz.
  8. Always amazing at the people that really don't have a clue on a 243. Undergunned? You're crazy.......................... Put the right bullet in the right place and the deer dies, with any CF round. If you put a 140gr .284" bullet in the wrong place do you think that deer will die just because it's a larger diameter hunk of lead/copper than a .244"? Maybe they should shoot 150's or 160's that'll really knock 'em over. A young hunter or ANY hunter is going to enjoy range time practice much more with a light 6mm bullet as opposed to a light 7mm bullet, any day. Seat time is so important with a new shooter or an old one.
  9. Nice rig and it appears to be a shooter!
  10. Wait, what? I thought you said you WERE on the pill? April Fool's!
  11. Now you're talking! That's enough enthusiasm to spread to ALL 39 birthday's.
  12. Rough night? Not much enthusiasm in that greeting................ Happy Birthday Wingnut! Hopefully you have a good plan for indoor fun today 'cause it sure is nasty outside. Rock on! Speaking of birthdays.........did you see how many "members" here are having a birthday today? I counted 39 with Wingnut. Damn............some serious planning really must have gone on in the bedrooms of all their parents! HAPPY BIRTHDAY x 39....................
  13. How about the pet monkey for $17.00 What an awesome pet that would make!
  14. I hope all have a safe night tonight and a great 2015. I'm hitting the rack.....................cheers!
  15. Good stuff Dan-O........... I can't add much (rare I know...... ) but if you are going to do mail order........pick a seller that offers free returns like Zappos. Probably others but I sure don't know who they are.......... On a similar note, late in archery season this year (November 13) I noticed my pack boots were ready to implode after ONLY 20 years of use......bummer I know!! Well I panicked and drove over to Canadagaiua looking for a replacement, I hit three stores and found out that leather uppers/rubber bottoms are kind of a thing of the past. All the stores had were Muck type boots and they weren't/aren't in the same league as pack boots for me. That Friday night I decided to order a pair of Schnee's Extreme boots. I have some foot issues and wear prescription orthotics and didn't want a cheaper pair of boots with poor support. Due to the horrible snow storm and 4-5 days that UPS was not getting trucks it took darn near two weeks to get them but I've been exceptionally pleased with them. They are rebuild-able and the traction they afford is amazing. I'm pretty sure I'll still need to use chemical heaters in them but at least my feet will be happy. Yes, they aren't cheap but if I can scrounge 20 years out of them with a rebuild or two I'll be tickled. Good luck wooly.......keep us posted. Happy New Year.
  16. She hasn't made a post here since this past January but it looks like she stopped in today to take a peak.......we gained growie back after a dust up maybe she'll come back too! Happy Birthday Cynthiafu.
  17. Could you imagine the lawmakers in NYS trying to set laws for rifle hunting with things like straight wall cases, caliber restrictions etc? Holy Kielbasa they'd be at it for 50 more years, I'd be dead from "Deerslayer Recoil" long before.
  18. One thing that I think is beneficial to the use of rifles and could have had an influence on the legalization is the fact that *most* deer hunters that hunted with shotguns are using pump or autoloading guns, typically loaded with 5 shots. *MOST* (and I say that with NO data to back it up) deer hunters now using rifles are using bolt actions; yes, they could be loaded with 5 cartridges too but they don't get emptied on a running buck/doe in the woods like a shotgunner might typically do. I don't meant to paint with a broad brush but I think the rounds spent when comparing rifles to shotguns will be less. Most will pick their shots better with a rifle as they know they have *generally* much better accuracy with the CF rifle as opposed to the shotgun. Less rounds flying around equates to less chance for a stray slug/bullet to go whizzing into Doc's living room davenport in the Bristol Hacienda.
  19. That's certainlly a different gift, good score!!
  20. Bring it up next summer, I'll peddle it on Ebay and we'll buy beer and lap dances on the OTHER side of the river We will be rich in so many ways...........................LOL .
  21. Sun? For THREE days? You guys are killing me!
  22. I'm sure other, more experienced folks will chime in but I wouldn't do it with my G12 or my 870IS. Now I will say that I've used my cameras in the rain but only be for a very important shot. They certainly aren't waterproof but they can stand a little moisture...................... Wait till the sun shines bright!!
  23. So what reason would you say prompted all these counties in NYS to choose to allow rifles? I've never spent much time in Wayne County but sure have in Livingston and Ontario and bothe of them have a pile of open and flat ground. Plenty of places for those CF rounds to travel MILES. Terribly dangerous but nary an accident that I've seen............Odd?
