Why no rifles in some shotgun only areas

I know I've read before that shotgun slugs tend to ricochet WORSE than rifle bullets. -
I like that stand a TON! Awesome job..............................

Of those 10,000 clicks how many prints have you made? -
Sometimes your money clouds your brain......... It was built after a HORRIBLE hunting season, weather wise. Wind, snow, rain, hail you name it. My friend decided he wanted something special built. The interior is so big you just can't effectively cover all directions and with those huge windows you get picked off pretty easy. Often times the "last day of the season" afternoon hunt has been spent in it, sometimes with more than one occupant. The guns may not even be loaded..........just a place to go sit and have a quiet chat with the very good possibility of a brandy sun downer to close out another chapter in the "field notes" journal. Could even be a good cigar smoked too.................

An old hay wagon was the basis for this cobbed together disaster.............................functional as Hell but certainly NOT aesthetically pleasing............... I've killed from that thing too. It is in Pennsylvania last I saw it.............

Not much better............

Built in the early 70's and still standing. You couldn't imagine the deer shot out of it. Spartan at best..............

Although this is a free standing ground hut I think the interior size is about right at (IIRC) 4'x4'. The windows as seen are WAY, WAY to big. Since this picture was taken we have added a board across each window at the lower edge. Each board was maybe 8-10" high. That makes it more difficult for the deer to spot you and gives you a better rest for your gun. Burlap on the back window (windows on all four sides although the door side window is real small) that you don't expect to shoot out of. If you had to, you could always step out the door to shoot...... If this was elevated only 8' it would afford a much better visual experience. Shot out of this hut @ 135 yards this fall............... When the weather is really sour, these things are nice to duck into.

This one is MUCH too big in all aspects; the interior dimensions and the really dumb big windows. The deer spot you so easy its amazing...............yup, WAY to big.

These two pics are of a tower stand design that we hunted out of in Alabama back in 2008. I've hunted out of a number of different types and liked this one the best, by far. The shooting openings were just the right size. Many people make them much too big......same with the physical size of the hut. It can easily be built too big..........BTDT.

I have a couple Leupold's that practically require vise grips. But I deal with it..........should send them back for a makeover but its no biggie.......... As far as Vortex, only Vortex product I ever looked in was a pair of their binos this fall. Top of the line something or other that was amazing!

Insufficient scope adjustment..Suggestions ?

The top gun in this picture is a Belgium built Browning Safari 30-06, same as the one in question here. I snapped this picture late this past deer season at my buddies. The Browning is my uncles, I've shot it a few times. LOVE that action, the barrel and even the OLD B&L scope with NO internal adjustments. It has windage and elevation adjustable mounts. (bet you young guys never saw that coming!) It is great looking and a heck of a shooter too! Factory engraving really sets the gun apart from others of its era. The other gun is my dad's Weatherby 30-06 that I just sold on this site to a member from Alaska. The reason I snapped the picture is because enjoy almost all bolt action rifles and we had four guns that hunted that day and two were older woodies and two were more modern; the two aforementioned guns on top and two ULA's on the bottom, a 257 Roberts and my LH 300WSM. Did I ever mention how much I enjoy all these guns?? -

I vaguely and I mean VAGUELY remember a guy (actually a very nice young lad) from the Great White North with the same handle, that be you Joe? How have you been? I bet you just HAD to make an appearance here real quick just before the prizes are handed out for the WINNER of the Youth Hunting contest.................... All fun aside, how have you been? Congrats on the new rig, looking forward to being inundated with "wooly-ish" pics shortly!! -

I'd try another scope to confirm that the Redfield is chicken chow mein. Then I'd know my next move. Need a test scope? I can send you one....................
