Smaller in what way? I wouldn't go with anything smaller than a 30mm objective or you'll loose to much when the lighting is low, field of view etc. Some might disagree but I think 8x is all you'll ever need for deer hunting east of the Mississippi. Woodchucks hunting, bird watching, sporting events and more you can use the 10x but they are usually too big and bulky for the woods when they are bouncing around on your chest and interfering with your weapon of choice and they are always heavier.

I agree on this one. I'm sure you couldn't get that button to tell you exactly what you'd see........case in point today I saw three bucks, one doe, an adult gobbler, a hen and three poults. Quite a day IMO.

I wouldn't hunt without them. This season I've been carrying a new to me pair of Swarovski 8x30 SLC that I scored off Craigslist for $400 and they were darn near new. For the past ten years I've carried Swarovski 8x32 EL 's. The EL aren't being replaced, they'll come out in a week or so from the mothballs........ In my opinion, good glass is as important as your gun or bow. You'll get 365 days a year use of the glass if nothing else. Today's optics are simply amazing for the money. Yesterday I was in Cabelas checking out glass for a friend. I was amazed at a pair of Vortex Razor HD 10x42 binos........very nice bins.

I kid you not, yesterday I was at a friends house in Pendleton looking at some real old pictures and watching it snow. He said "hey, you want a beer?" No thanks I said. Then he says "how about a shot of blackberry brandy?" I said yes please............ Needless to say I stopped and bought a pint (only size they had on hand) at the local spirits store. I'm figuring just for medicinal purposes though............. I bet I haven't had BB in 10 years till yesterday. Good stuff!

Boy was I cold this morning. I think it was around 29 with a stiff north northwest breeze. SOB I was chilled!! My fault it would appear as I was under gunned......one holy glove for my left hand, short sleeve long underwear top, light long john bottoms and no hand or foot warmer That won't happen again! I have all you could ever need to stay warm but it seems each year it takes the shock of the first truly cold morning to hammer it home. It was hammered home today!! My hands still hurt from the TWO trips (one trip for nature break) up/down the ladder. I ended up seeing a full bag of game though; 3 bucks, one doe, a hen & 3 poults and one adult tom. Only thing I could have killed was one of the buck and I'm tag-less in that department.......... Were you cold?

I can believe that. My climbing sticks were a tad slick this morning from the snow/ice. I had to be even more diligent with each step up or down.........

I've always wondered how much of a PIA they'd be in a treestand?? I'm betting it wouldn't have been much better than the ground blind deal. I'm sure it's just a bit of a learning curve?? I have no interest in hunting with one but ain't anti. It'll be interesting to see if anybody else chimes in with a less than glowing result.
