Bold = Insanity in this example. -
Many years ago I was hunting PA. with my mentor, Bob Weber (RIP) and a bad thunderstorm was moving in. We had a bird going nuts, he'd gobble at us and at the thunder. The rain came and one clap of thunder & lightning was RIGHT on top of us and I don't know WTF happened. The bird shut up, the rain came down in barrels and we just sat there for about 5 minutes not knowing what to do. It kind of shook us up and we headed out for a change of clothes and a barley sandwich. <grin>

Erie County On Board Against NY SAFE Act
Lawdwaz replied to Lawdwaz's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
And, if you didn't know: Erie County is in the western portion of New York State, bordering on the lake of the same name. It is the most populous county in New York State outside of the New York City metropolitan area. AND WE ARE PISSED OFF! (I added that last little rant) <grin> -
Breaking now........... EC Leg. passes bill opposing SAFE act Updated: Thursday, 21 Feb 2013, 3:42 PM EST Published : Thursday, 21 Feb 2013, 1:34 PM EST Rich Newberg Posted by: Emily Lenihan BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie County Legislature passed a resolution Thursday opposing the NY SAFE Act. The GOP minority was joined by two Democrats, Thomas Loughran and Terrence McCracken, in passing the resolution, with a final vote of 7-4. Also Thursday, the lawsuit seeking to prevent New York's tough new gun law from being implemented has been adjourned until April 25. Hamburg attorney James Tresmond tells News 4 the Attorney General's office has asked for more time to respond. Tresmond is preparing a class-action lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the law on several issues. He says forcing New Yorkers to register their guns with local police agencies infringes on their privacy rights and potentially makes them vulnerable to burglaries should the information fall into the wrong hands. Tresmond will apply for a preliminary injunction next week. He hopes this will help stop implementation of the law until the case is adjudicated. Copyright WIVB.com

Remington XP100R in 260Rem. They aren't in every Dick's or Gander Mountain! I got mine from an old timer down in Stueben County a couple years ago. I was a nice older gentleman. He brought his lovely fiancée with him when we did the deal. What a cute couple, I wonder if they'll EVER get married?? I digress, the Encore is an awesome gun and much more common. They are all fun to shoot. Good luck!

I'm slowly loosing interest in spring gobbler hunting. The increase in hunters, decrease in available land to hunt, distance to hunt, price of fuel and early rise of dawn has knocked some of the luster off of it. The TV shows with guys hunting out of blinds with freaking dekes that wobble, twist and spin with REAL feathers on them shooting birds that come running in by the handful. The NWTF boys and the BS that they are always pushing in the name of "conservation" has also dulled the passion I had years ago. Heck I still get a kick out of it but and do enjoy the kill but it ain't like it was 20-25 years ago, IMO. Jeez, I don't know where THAT rant came from............Sorry Joe!!

I really heavily on locater calls. I'll start with an owl hooter and fairly quickly turn to the crow call after (as noted above) I hear the first real crow squawking. I sometimes stick with the crow call all morning if I'm running & gunning and covering vast areas. Never used the woodpecker or coyote howler calls and don't have any interest in them, personally.

I have enjoyed him for years. Wishing he came in better here. (WHAM is a bit weak in most areas around here) It'd be cool to get him signed in as a member. Maybe he lurks........... Maybe we could lure him in with talk of fancy pocket knives!

Yesterday I saw 4 deer hanging out off of the I 990 in Amherst. 3/4 had both sides of their head gear intact.

The leads are pouring in now............................................. Good luck Dan.

I've easily had the most success with my diaphragm calls but love to suck in the hung up ones with the slate call. My problem with the slate is sometimes it sounds like DOGDUNG. I've tried a bunch of different ones and different strikers and still have up & down results. The box is mostly just a locater call for me. I couldn't finish off a 35lb domestic bird with a box call. BUT......I always have at least one and sometimes two box calls ready to roll in my vest. My crow call is my favorite shock gobbler call. I use a hooter until I hear the first real crow of the morning although I will admit to being the first crow on the block to be calling some mornings!!! Do you have a turkey hunting vest yet? Get a good one cause you might have it for 30+ years like me. Heck, you don't see camo like this anymore!!

Lawdwaz replied to ants's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
Just a guess but I'd think you wouldn't have too much trouble getting a different one to fit. I'll also go WAY out on a limb and say that I doubt Polaris ever made their own winch, somebody (Warn?) makes it and they glue some stickers on it for Polaris. Good luck and let us know what kind you end up with. PS....I had to mount the Warn winch on my 1999 Honda Foreman when I bought it from the dealer. I usually enjoy doing tasks like that, not this time! It was a huge pain in the butt as the area to mount it was hidden from sight and then routing the wires to the battery and then mounting the solenoid were a real bitch. Oh well, I sold the machine to my buddy 5 years ago and it is all still working! Honda & Warn are a good match! -
Your very wise for your age. Joseph.

Hey TPhunter, welcome to the site!

I'll gladly stick with the AA batteries also. I'm just a piker when it comes to trail cams as I've only owned two and I still use them. I have one ScoutGuard and one Bushnell (same as the SG) and they both take AA's and last FOREVER!
