  1. No pork in my ground either.
  2. Nothing goes into the jar when I do it. A friend sticks some garlic in, I'll add that when I cook it. My favorite way to cook it is in a cast iron skillet; saute'd with onion, garlic and red wine. After a enough wine, the meat break down into small shredded pieces with a excellent flavor. Meanwhile, some scratch (who would use instant?) mashed potatoes have been made and some beef gravy too. I plop some potatoes in the middle of the plate, then meat and some gravy. To top it off, some frozen or fresh corn off the cob. Makes it like a Shepard's Pie. Knock your socks off.......... I don't can every year and sometimes I'll skip a couple years, I'm due this year.
  3. I had a local butcher that would cube some venison for me but only good stuff from the hindquarter. After awhile it got to be a pain for the butcher and it wasn't worth loosing the ground that we utilized better over the years in my family. If a guy or gal shoots more than one deer a year (some commenting here don't shoot one a year I'd bet) they might be looking for another option. Also, all the BS sausage, snack sticks, hotdogs, jerky etc is for the folks that aren't too keen on venison. YMMV
  4. "Paper thin cutlets"? Your butcher slices up all the good stuff paper thin for you, gives you the backstraps and a pile of other "chunks" you make into snack stix? LOL this is too good to be true!
  5. I’d hate to hear the experts opinion on canned venison.
  6. Thanks JP, I just ordered one.
  7. My friend is a member (NOT a carver!) in an organization for horn carvers. He got interested by a couple guys he met in Pennsylvania a number of years ago. The put out a very nice magazine……..I don’t recall the name of it though. The OP is probably a member?
  8. Good luck Zeek. Looking forward to getting updates and enjoying an elk burger when you get back and settled.
  9. From Mansfield you'll be heading through Wellsboro I hope? My wife and I were just there two weekends ago, celebrating our 30th anniversary. We enjoy it there quite a bit. Have fun!
  10. Amazing things going on in this picture. I have questions…….
  11. Hey old timer, you're probably in bed by now but hopefully you had a great day. Happy Birthday!
  12. As noted in my OP, I use Wunderground. It is the same as Weather Underground and I was looking for another option.
  13. The wind at home isn't always the same as 90 minutes east of here. Also, the app tells me (and others that use them) what it could be out as far as ten days making planning a little easier. If a guy hunts close to home or even in their own backyard, your system is ok for the present-not so much for the future.
  14. I added (no thanks to you lugnuts!) Windy.com to my quiver.....so far I like it.
  15. I’ve got service but am not heading out. Good luck MPP
  16. Looks like a good aiming point in that second picture.
  17. As I've mentioned before I'm three weeks into some physical therapy for a couple problems with my left shoulder. The PT seems to be helping somewhat but nowhere near what I should be able to do. Oh I'm shooting 10-12 arrows at a crack each day but the terribly unorthodox way I draw puts OTHER pressure on my right shoulder. One thing I never thought of crossed my mind this morning; what if I see an opportunity for a shot and draw the bow but for one reason or another the shot never materializes, can I let the bow down? I think I could be in trouble........ BTW, the fingers on my right hand were numb also. Carpal tunnel probably but I was cold today, toes & hands. My shake down cruise was painful...... I'm drawing 53lbs and should really crank it back 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn on the Allen bolts. I just might.
  18. Lol, lots of truth to that response. Like skillet said, I hold my hand over the lens of my handheld light to limit the light when I need/want to. Headlamps are great for certain needs but rarely do I use one when going in or out of the woods. If I’m gutting or dragging, of course I’d rather use a headlamp but usury it’s just a handheld.
