  1. Thanks guys, I appreciate all the kind words, I’m still amazed about it and how easy he made it! Larry if ever you want to take a stroll down memory lane and look for that tree just let me know!
  2. Thanks man, I’m so freaking excited, happy, impressed and flabbergasted! He works hard at everything he he loves, sports and hunting!!
  3. Well I can’t believe it’s happened so fast. So we’ve been out 3 times and seen nicks and does, couple close calls and also no worries it’s early. Well recently I signed him up for x county for some additional fall sport along with his current baseball schedule. I didn’t know x county practices 5 days a week plus 2 baseball practices. So he said to me , dad give me tonight off as I’ll have little time the next month so to hunt a lot so I agreed. As we headed down to the land I told him i wanted to setup by the food plot (not where he wanted to go) as I knew there was a high probability deer would come to it. I sat in my stand near him and he sat in his. After awhile he starts texting me where are the deer?? I said it’s early no worries. Later he says he wished he was in the other stand and I said I’d be shocked if we didn’t see any deer. A little while later he calls and I’m thinking he’s gonna complain about not seeing anything and he says.. dad I just smoked a doe!! I come over and he shows me where she was standing and I don’t see blood, hair or an arrow so I’m concerned. I asked where she left the plot and as soon as I got to the edge I saw blood, part looked dark and kinda gritty other looked ok. So we walked out and came back an hr later around 7. Got into the woods and was having an ok time finding blood and the blood was looking much better and I led the way and he followed once I kept finding more blood. Then I said keep scanning ahead as well in case you see her. Then at some point I shined my light ahead and we both said is that her?? Sure was and I’m guessing within 80yrs of shot!! So freaking cool and impressed with him. Ended up being double lung and a clear pass through with a 35 lb draw weight!! So dam fun and happy. On a side note this doe died within probably 50yrs of my first deer back in 1992! Cool stuff. Now he’s ready to hunt a 10pt he says. This should definitely give him more confidence!!
  4. Well my son sealed the deal on his first deer. I’ll post everything in the member journal in a bit! Under sons first season
  5. Son and I are out for another sit, this time on the food plot!! Jumped 3 flat tops on walk in (the strategic walk in to avoid busting deer) oh well. They have a rap ton of acorns and food plot food!
  6. Yrs ago I’m hunting my old spot where I grew up. Early Nov and I have multiple bucks (one is deff a shooter) chasing for late morning in the corn fields a couple hundred yards away. I hit the grunt call a few times with no luck then I did a long deep grunt and the biggest buck stops everything and immediately takes of towards me, I’m in disbelief he coming. A few times he hangs up but another grunt here and there keeps him coming but now he’s getting close and coming around down wind. He is just about to an opening and I draw, he now smells something and stand there and stands there. I don’t want to let down so I see a branch right below my bow and I rest the cam on it to help release some arm stress, finally he walks into the lane and I release.... I forgot to take the bow off the limb. Never even saw the arrow on release. Never forget that hunt!
  7. We came really close to a big doe, not a clear shot so my son passed . He’s officially foaming at the mouth in hope’s to shooting one!!
  8. Anyone else like an ole frozen chicken pot pie microwaved after a hunt?!
  9. Son had a doubleheader today and we ran out back behind the house to hunt. Saw a bunch of doe and had a small 8pt come by just outta range.
  10. That stinks, I’d be loosing my mind sitting there. Boredom and ADD would have long gotten the best of me!! Gl
  11. We had a great morning and had opportunities to harvest deer. My son had chances on a 6pt and another smaller buck and a few doe but held off, he’s holding out for bigger he says.
  12. Ha, my first year I shook so bad I didn’t even shoot at the spike as I couldn’t keep my bow still enough to shoot. I was so mad at myself I stormed out of the woods right in the middle of a hunt!
  13. Did anyone start one yet!
  14. See says he’s gonna be cool as a cucumber when he shoots. I’m still laughing at that one!
  15. Ok well he’s official now!!! I’m giving him the morning off from school to go hunt with me in the morning. His clothes are in the dryer now and he’s taking a scent free (or so called) shower. He’s pretty excited and we’re sitting on an oak bench, one of my favorite spots. He’s super excited so will see what happens!
  16. I was against them originally to but after harvesting two nice bucks with clean shots I didn’t have anything to disagree about!!
  17. Ok here’s what he got. Either sex tag and two doe tags!!
  18. Joe, some have suggested doing other hunts and so on. You know your kid best, I took my kid out around 4 or 5 as well. Many short frustrating hunts. Today he’s 12 and will be bow hunting opening day. He’s always had interest from the beginning.
  19. Haha, time flies. Joe and I joined the forum the same month, heck that doesn’t seem so long ago but I guess it is!! Joe was a frequent contributor to the forum and its good to hear from ya
  20. Yamaha, we’ve had a bunch over the yrs and currently have 3. All have been great!
  21. Hey Joe, my experience taking my son was always fun but short lived. We did not use any electronics and he would make it like 40 minutes. Deff use the blind as they can’t sit still. Also give him his own pair of binoculars.
  22. Well it’s almost here!! Will pick up his license this week and I’ll let him take the morning off of school on Thursday!! He’s super excited to get started, he even wants my wife to sit in the box blind behind the house. Last is getting his clothes all washed and put an a tote!!
