an old double lung rager. Someone once said with rage it's either a murder scene or droplets. I tend to agree that it's an all or nothing kind of thing with them.

about 10 or so years ago I had an original gopro. I know they've come a long way but the when strapped to my head every deer looked tiny. For reference these targets are at 20 yards. Seems hunters today mount them to a stick and use them to film the hunter who is shooting and then have another better cam mounted to a tripod that they use to film the deer and shot.

there's a little sag in that back, but not the belly. I'd still guess 3.5 though.

these bastards disappear in May and then they hangout all summer and fall.

I disagree to some extent. a rage will cut a 2.3" wound channel, and if sharp enough and the shot true, you're undoubtedly cutting that many more arteries/veins and also potentially clipping a lung or the heart where a smaller fixed blade may not. Of course if the fixed blade can blow through the scapula or doesn't deflect then that's better than the mechanical that bounces off. At the end of the day a good shot is a good shot regardless. I think the tiebreaker though is that a good shot on a rage may still not be a passthrough and a good single bevel will, so you're less likely to get a plug or deflection. if that makes sense. for what it's worth, i've shot nothing but rage heads for 15 years. I've only lost one deer and that was a doe 2 years ago. She's still alive and my shot was just real low and a high angle (brisket). It wasn't the rages fault, it was mine. So I really have no reason to switch from what has put a lot of meat in the freezer other than I'm buying the hype on the fixed heads.

so my staysharp kit came in yesterday. I must admit I'm a little underwhelmed, but it could be user error. The testimonials are that you should be able to literally split hairs and easily cut paper, but after an hour messing with one I couldn't see any noticeable difference over factory sharpness. I know rage is cheap metal and that might be part of it, but I was hoping for more noticeable results.

there's an episode at the beginning of the 2020 season on the hunting public where they go through all the equipment they use. I search around august/september of 2020 to see if you can find it. Basically they have a real nice cam, a few budget ones and a gopro. iirc the real nice one is only used post hunt to film hero shots.

so what does it matter that it's an electric car? My 400hp v8 pontiac g8 has its battery in the trunk and I'm not worried that it's going to explode if i had can of gas back there. Plenty of mid and rear engine vehicles out there that are quite literally creating millions of explosions and I wouldn't feel like a gas can in the boot would be an issue. anyhow i've said my peace, no need to muck up this thread further.

the way I look at it is the chef is still willing but fourseasons wants chef to fork over 3 grand in advance, which I think we can all agree is bs. If fourseasons accepts chef handing the 3 grand to an independent 3rd party then that seems fair. If he doesn't accept that offer, I call this a win for chef and the biggest L in the history of this forum for 4 seasons. maybe we can vote on it? lol.

so if the deer are livestock and they manage them, what would you call them if not farmers? If the deer aren't livestock and they're not farmers, wouldn't you agree that they shouldn't be able to kill bear and yote out of season? You seem to want to have your cake and eat it too. It's one of the other my dude.

yes any electrical fire requires a class c extinguisher. Not water.

do you feel like you won some argument? You didn't dispute anything I just said. Of course a farmer can protect his livestock. I said as much. Your high fenced deer are livestock, and you and your partners are farmers. Do you dispute that?

fair point. There is no doubt that that it's generally easy to kill a bb because they get booted early from their mom and they just don't know sh!t about hunters and predators at their age. It's no different than dropping off a 7 year old and a 30 year old in the middle of the woods and see who survives longer.

A hunting ranch is not a pen. And in NY (where this forum is centered around), maintaining a hunting ranch without fences does not make it legal to kill bear and yote out of season or without tags. It doesn't matter how many thousands you have at stake as the deer are not your property. This isn't europe where the deer are the king's deer. This is north america where the deer are the property of the people. Your deer are considered livestock with no rules because you entrap them within a fence and make money off of them. We've had this argument before and you've made it very clear multiple times over that you and your buddies break the law with crossbows and other game laws because they have these large tracts of land that they have invested in and so they feel justified to hunt with a crossbow and poach other non-deer species because they pay their taxes. You may feel however you want (how very liberal of you btw), but it doesn't in no court of law make any of it legal. Your property in North America doesn't give you any rights above and beyond a guy like Bill who hunts public land. He may be a "peasant" in your eyes because he doesn't have 1000 acres in his name, but in the eyes of the law he has just as much a right to that deer as you do should it cross lines.

what's dangerous about it? Do your flashlight batteries shoot sparks out of them or does the lead-acid car battery in your truck shoot out sparks?

for me, it's like you said that even the perfect shot doesn't pass through always on the big boys. A dead center rib bone shot or even rib bone deflection can be the difference in high fives and beer and tears. I do see the tradeoff on smaller blood trails and potential arrow flight issues, but again at 20 and under it shouldn't be a problem. I'm looking forward to testing and wish I would have started this journey in June for this season. Just hoping it doesn't bite me this year.

yeah I almost want him to shoot it because those antlers are weird and similar to they type you see with antlered doe. I wouldn't be shocked at all if there's no twig and berries under there... or possibly an early injury or genetic issue and he has a twig but no berries and that's driving the weird rack issue. Maybe he needs some of that low T stuff that frank thomas sells on late night tv lol

Yes I should clarify, I've been watching a lot of hunting public and even some ranch fairy videos on the higher FOC arrow setups. Generally we're talking a 300 spine arrow with like 225grains up front. I've also listened to doctor ed ashby and the iron will guys on meateater podcast. They all preach that hunters should always be taking ethical shots. But yes sometimes things don't go as planned. I imagine we've all clipped the scapula or worse, or some of us have not been able to resist that slightly quartering towards shot on a big buck, despite what we tell ourselves going in. Finally, I shoot a lightweight setup with rage 2 blades and I've had plenty of passthroughs, but I've had a few that have not. I really want a passthrough if I can, and I'll give up some speed on my 60lb 31" draw setup to do that if I can.

yeah it's too late for this year anyhow. I've never shot over 30 and my second pin is at 35. That's the longest I'd shoot. I do like the idea of blowing through a shoulder on a slightly quartering towards shot though. I'll take that over distance.

I think there's always the exception. does with antlers, weird defects, injuries etc. But yes generally a 1.5 is not a button.

yeah the amount of rain lately needs to chill out lol. Not just for the woods, but sitting in the stands at my kids games or practice in the cold rain sucks haha.

I'm going to just keep with my rage and fmj setup this year. But I think my next year project will be a heavier, high foc setup. I like the iron will single bevels.
