  1. Why? I think the trouble is that it's perfectly legal and common for farmers to use them for cattle and i think horses too. So then we get into the issue that tractor supply will sell them with a picture of a deer on the wrapper. Of course you can buy corn for cattle too, but also buy corn with a big buck on the bag too. You're right in that even a smaller 1/4 acre plot is spread out and actively growing so that rain and plant defenses will decrease the amount of disease vs a rotting pile of corn or a 12x12 lick is a much more concentrated source of spreading disease. I think the challenge for me in running an orchard is looking at the hundreds of apples under some of my older trees that have fallen in the drought and thinking... perfectly legal and not baiting but also potential disease spreaders. haven't thought too much about mock scrapes before, although deer aren't really eating anything and not all even have a licking branch. Deer will make their own natural regardless. Deer aren't going to create their own licks though.
  2. actually seems like the courts disagree with your statement. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2021/12/13/pennsylvania-man-treated-covid-ivermectin-dies/6498445001/
  3. The modern world has never gone through a pandemic before. When it began we didn't know much about it. A good way of thinking about covid is like an alien invasion. Are they friends or are they foes? How do they talk, where are they vulnerable? We didn't have tests, then we did. We didn't know if it was contracted by touching surfaces or through air, then we learned. We didn't have enough n95 masks, so cloth was better than nothing. If we had an alien invasion we'd still lean on our experts to ask the right questions and develop a strategy, not Tucker Carlson. Then we'd learn from our initial assessments and adapt. This is how all science works. Form a hypothesis based on what's known. Learn more and adapt. Nobody knows the answer to everything and never will as the world is full of change. What is true today may not be true tomorrow. See this is what's funny. I never said I was the expert, I would however defer to experts over the corners of the internet. That's the difference my friend.
  4. Today I learned that shoots100 is not only an expert on climate change, but also well educated and an expert in virology and in the medical field. Dude you must have companies beating down your door with fists full of cash with a resume like that.
  5. If the DEC put it to a vote, would you vote to allow off-season or out of season mineral supplements? Not legalizing feeders, but things like salt/mineral licks to encourage antler growth. They would still be illegal during the season (for those of us who follow the law of course)
  6. yeah this is for sure a personal preference. I think 80% is still pretty lean all things considered and I get a little more out of my venison this way and it sticks a little better. Heck I do 50/50 for sausage and at some point you're not eating wild game anymore lol. My point was that you can stretch your venison if you're creative. Lot eat the heart and liver too. Not a liver fan but I'll never waste a heart again. Our new lab is on a meat diet and I'm going to save a lot of the scraps I normally toss for him this year too like flank and other edibles.
  7. this was my thought too, but would include about 5-10 pounds of pork butt/shoulder to grind 80/20.
  8. the muzzleloader isn't a debate. clean and clean often. I do intermediate cleaning all other long guns besides the .22 which rarely gets cleaned.
  9. interesting stuff that i haven't heard of. I was lucky and didn't need any pH adjustment, but it's nice to know there's a much easier product like this out there if I did need to lime. Not sure I'm sold on the plot boost stuff, but maybe next year.
  10. wow so green. What did you plant again? Looks like maybe a 1/4 or 1/2 acre?
  11. nope not a chance. My property will be a nice sanctuary for all females.
  12. misinformation is dangerous and generally only hurts us law abiding citizens. Always look at the sources guys. Some random post by a member none of us know, or an official state website. I know which I'll choose.
  13. It's incredible to think it wasn't that long ago that we had Pataki. The state is so blue now it's hard to even fathom.
  14. Someone posted the state's website on page 1. It's not really a guess, if you want to follow the law you need to have your firearm unloaded, out of site and in a locked hard sided case (plastic is ok), but only if you or someone above 18 have left the car unattended. You do not need to follow those rules if you're in your car. I was sort of wondering about a pistol though if you have a lockable bin. I have a lockable bin in my silverado and it is for sure a hard sided. At the end of the day I don't see many upstate officers enforcing this, but you do run the risk that they do. I would also guess that during hunting season they would be far more lenient than just traveling around with an AR on the backseat, but again the law doesn't differentiate so you run that risk. Why you'd leave an AR on your backseat in view while running into the store is beyond me anyhow, and how a cop would know it was in your car unlocked if it was hidden would be a head scratcher too.
  15. yes I know, but it was pretty clear the comment was about "will it rain tomorrow on Belo's food plot in 8F". But you're right in that the profession is more than just a nice looking girl telling you how bad your commute is going to suck in the morning only for no snow to fall at all.
  16. And this is exactly what I said on page 1. The solution is exactly what we should be debating. But there is a smattering of comments in here refuting that it's even a real thing. You'll probably find that I'm more aligned with you on how do we address the issue than you think. I'm glad we could get to this point. salude
  17. my guess is it makes it back to the supreme court and this time next year it'll be overturned, but there will be some more BS along the way.
  18. Well yesterday sucked from a "last day of summer" perspective, but man if that wasn't the deep soaker we really needed. My plots are growing daily and that soaker with the milder temps should really do them good. I'm happy I got just about all of my pre-season work on the stands done as well.
  19. Careful what you put out there as fact without sourcing it. It is NOT illegal to transport a gun in your car while you're in your car. You cannot however leave it unattended outside of a locked "hard" case in plain site.
  20. I didn't say he didn't have ties, I asked when the last time he'd been there.
  21. sigh. As we both would agree, communism is bad. There are millions, billions (if you include china) that would disagree. Entire empires. It's a social construct that is hard to prove good or bad, unlike say the pH of this drink is 7.2. It cannot be empirically measured. Al Gore is a politician who used data fed to him by scientists. He is not an expert, but those who work for NASA are and you can read about it in the link I posted above... but I doubt you will. But go ahead, poke holes in global warming, I'm all ears. on second thought, I've said my piece and nobody has come back with anything to show that global warming isn't real. What we have so far is a general distrust for science and authority and that's ok. In fact, that's a good thing. We should question everything, but after you've questioned it, heard the arguments and feel educated about it then it's time to accept or push back. I once pushed back as an undergrad. Heck even out of school and working I had some reservations on global warming, but I don't any longer. All I'm asking is that you don't use uncorrelated experiences and examples to refute something unrelated. happy hunting
  22. then we agree that this is a waste of time. https://climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/
  23. again, you're confusing facts with opinions. Fact - Water in the ocean is salty Opinion - Communisim is bad You were asked to fight a war based on the opinions of experts and a select niche of experts with a very strong agenda. What we're talking about with global warming is a consensus fact across all countries and independent experts (including China). Please guys, learn to separate the two
  24. Except when we were making 10's of thousands off the stock market 3 or 4 years ago and you were saying we should all be investing in can goods for our bunkers. Not one single policy though?
  25. Because you come across as one of the most polarizing, entrenched and narrow minded individuals I've ever had witness of interacting with. You post on nothing but politics and mostly did the same under your old name. I bet you couldn't say a nice word about a liberal/democratic stance if you tried. It's all of nothing for you, which leads me to believe you're not analytical in your thinking at all. Except that 99% of scientists have agreed that global warming is real and man made and this has been the thinking for decades. Why are you arguing? Because you don't like that it's happening and the thought of it being our fault troubles you? That doesn't make it not real. Because some government officials have abused power? That doesn't mean that decades of independent research is wrong because of covid. These are not correlated.
