  1. I mean what do you think happens in the south, let alone Africa, South America? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Also curious how you think big game hunters pack out their game. You think skinned and quartered a bull elk in Montana is in a cooler within a few hours? Heck Rinella will let those bags hang in a tree overnight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I’ve said my peace. High 30s, low 40’s is not something myself and hunters for generation have ever been concerned about. I’ve let a few early bow kills hang in low 50’s in a shaded garage unexposed, wrapped with ice bags in the cavity to be extra safe. Use common practice with prep of your meat and you’ll be fine. But you do you, I’ll do me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Less than 12 hours with protective hide, dressed? Yes, yes it is. Man how did humans survive before refrigeration [emoji849] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Totally fine to hang over night. Come on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. how many new yorkers salt water fish out of a new york port? I imagine many of the lakes and streams in those states which have great lake access are pretty good. But yes, NY has a pretty good variety. Never my point.
  7. i like venison too... not nuts.
  8. i'm going to try tongue and some point too. My thing with nuts is kinda what Steve said. I'm not hurting for food, so it's just not going to happen for me. If i was starving in the woods? Of course I'd eat them.
  9. i am most certainly not trying the nuts.
  10. I responding only to the point about game opportunities. As far as I know all those states offer plenty of comparable hunting and fishing opportunities, and in some cases better than NY. The statement I was replying to was that only NY offers such great hunting opportunities, when most knowledgeable people would tell you that very similar eco-systems exist close by and even better opportunities if you head west of the mississippi.
  11. so your basis for good roads in NY is referencing the 70's and 80's? I drove back and forth between mississippi and new york for several years and never hit crap roads UNTIL I hit NY, and coincidentally they were also the only roads I had to pay to drive on.
  12. yeah same guy, but i will admit that his earlier seasons are better and unfortunately not available at this time on netflix.
  13. yes or a quad or cart. Like g-man said, jello. Nothing to pull and drag easily. This isn't a super popular opinion, but something to consider with black bear, especially in NY. Unless they've been eating well and certain types of food, generally they are what they eat. The meat isn't high on the list of game animals, but of course is edible and delicious if done well. If i'm successful i will absolutely get mine tested and depending on location of the kill, I'm considering just saving the back straps. Yes I know that's not great and why I'm just considering it. I do know that a good portion of ny bear hunters dont save any meat though.
  14. amazon is not the way to go for anything that isn't super mainstream hunting. I too like midway, opticsplanet is good, sometimes google search will find small stores offering good deals.
  15. that was my issue with my second deer this year. the first pulled nicely, and I'm going to equate it to colder temps but i had a dammed hard time pulling the hide off the second one. I watched this video below this morning and there's no way any deer I've shot has ever come off that easy. I've thought about buying one of those hide puller tools to save on my hands.
  16. i agree with your points, what I meant to say or would rephrase to say is that it doesn't help.
  17. a simple google search disproves just about everything he says, no worries. It's also important to separate upstate from downstate when reviewing these claims. And you get paid more because the col is so freaking high. man some people have their heads stuck in the clouds or in the dirt.
  18. if you believe for a second that NY is the only state with bountiful game, you need to travel more, read more and stop drinking/smoking whatever it is you're doing. That is not to say NY lacks those things, but it certainly has no monopoly. Look at our surrounding states like OH, PA and up to WI and MN as states that have everything we do and more in some cases.
  19. steve has a few books, his most recent is on order for me but sold out. If you have any kind of commute I'd recommend downloading his podcasts. They touch on a lot of subjects and they debate a lot of the morals and ethics behind hunting. Steve is very much about the hunt and the food, more so then the trophy, but doesn't deny that trophy hunting is part of it. The way he talks about game prep really has me interested in trying some more things like the ribs, heart and liver that I have not tried in the past. Anyhow, dl the podcast, it's free and comes out every few weeks. It's sort of like an audio version of this forum with guys just talking about hunting. newest book (i'm going to actually try to eat these squirrels i keep shooting off my bird feeder). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0399590072/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  20. i thought i read somewhere that what he said was a fake news story. someone can correct me if i'm wrong.
  21. bears repeating too that many outdoorsman like myself also stopped buying atheltic gear, winter jackets, sneakers for my wife and 3 growing boys, golf gear etc. So yeah dicks, your sales are slumping in those areas, but you also lost all that ancillary business families of 5 with 3 growing boys involved in sports gave you too.
  22. dicks will have some pretty good sales. especially on sneakers and sports gear. And in particular i like to see how noisy, bulky something is. and that doesn't include guns and ammo online...
