nothing's off the table. I plan to really spend my time bugging the local shops. If I'm going to drop over a grand on something I want to enjoy the process

My Mathews switchback is entering year 12 of technology and 10 years in my possession (bought used). While she still kills deer just fine, I have realized there are some better options out there. I will admit to being a Mathews fanboy, but I'm not ruling other brands out. The new triax is interesting. I will have some fun trials ahead because my switchback has an ATA of 33". Dropping to a 28" might take some getting used to. Not ruling out one of the Halon models for a longer ATA... but they also weigh about a half pound more than my switchback and the triax is much closer in weight. figured i'd start this thread and keep it updated as I "hunt" lol. Feel free to contribute if you're also shopping. http://www.mathewsinc.com/bows/triax

i call it the "hidden tenderloin"

i hear the local islmabad keeps them stocked in surplus

that's a good point i didn't think about. good advice for next year!

i disagree. I've hunted for almost 20 years and never hunted 30 past, of course i'm in the woods well before 30 before including my time down south. Just this year i had a buck grunting in front of me during archery. It was a canopy covered, low light condition morning and was right around the 30 before. I never considered the shot. To be honest, anyone who would still shoot 30 past is doing it now anyhow. the law (which is hardly ever enforced unless spotlighters are caught) would just make a few more hunters who feel guilty about it a little more easy and put a few more on the ground for those that really do wait till 7:30 during late gun. I don't foresee more bad shots as a result.

that is the worst sin of this thread by far

i good test is to see what you get back from a processor and what you get on your own from similar size, sex and season harvested deer. I don't have an issue taking a little more time like you said and I know because it's "mine" i'll get more and it'll be trimmed and handled better. But that's also 1/2 the reason I do them myself. I think the idea was a pressure cooker right? Let us know how it goes, maybe I'll give it a try sometime. Did you cut them up so you could package them? similar, although we eat a lot of ground so usually all but 2 shoulder steaks plus neck go into grind and we skip the roasts. of course rear steaks and chops all cut up and packaged too.

I feel I do a damn good job around the hips and neck and parts that i know a processer doesn't mess with and probably a lot of other hunters dont either. But there's a line and I don't mess with flank, or ribs. I remember shawnhu stating ribs were his favorite part. Just have to draw the line somewhere or i'm stuck making reusable straws and stirring sticks, not to mention rocky mountain oysters out of those buck parts.

there is absolutely a level of accountability all hunters should have. If you feel you're responsible enough to carry a weapon, especially a firearm into the woods you should know when it's not ok to shoot even within legal hunting hours. This applies to shot placement and your ability and effort to track and recover the deer. I have shot deer in some horrifying areas. But I knew that going in. Light conditions should not be any different. We've all sat in the woods perfectly able to see with still 20 or 10 minutes left until legal light. It's a joke. I shot this buck in MS on public land with a mz 22 minutes after sunset , legal light in MS is 30 before and after. Because there's an invisible line separating NY and MS makes it any less safe or ethical?

Woa that's a big animal (cougar, Canada)

I have to exclude some of the french canadians. Great guys, but always making fun of Americans behind their back. Man i wish i took french in HS! -
why do we nurture and grow our lawns and kill dandelions? boar reproduce at alarming rates and destroy the land they have invaded. As far as respect, what we don't know about the helicopter hunts is if they go back and pick up the hogs. I had wild hog sausage down in MS where they have spread and it was pretty damn good. Most hog hunters eat the meat the same as they would deer. And ask a farmer how he treats deer lol.

i started doing this in an app (i forget what it was called) a few years ago and couldn't keep it up. kudos to you.

for picture taking like crumedgon does. My point is that you can't bait deer even for picture taking in NY.

is stir fry not food? I can eat my prey, but not if it's mixed with veggies? I'm not even surprised at "causes online outrage" anymore. But that is one hell of a big cat. Running dogs isn't for me, but i don't have an issue with it either. -
i understand the cwd and sporting aspects of deer. I don't understand bear.
-
boars are invasive. hell they trap them in cages and just slaughter them. I don't see any real issue with how you might want to kill an invasive destructive mega-breeder. I suppose I'm not one to judge what can and can't be canned, just that i wouldn't feel anything bad about a canned boar hunt. Probably wouldn't call it "hunting" though. hell if i was rich i'd want to do one of those helicopter boar shoots!
-
I think it's funny in this stupid state that you can bait birds of prey, yotes and fox... but not bear.
-
i thought we were confessing sins?
-
please eddie. that guy was 40 minutes past and shot at "something moving"

we spent about $200 on this pool alarm because my wife and mom convinced me one of the kids would fall in when we weren't looking. It's for ingrounds and goes off with wave motion. Well anyhow, the thing has a speaker inside and out and has to be reset at the unit. Enough wind and it goes off and it's annoying as hell. After about 2 weeks we stopped using it if i had a bait pile alarm, i might end up in the pile!

I think the sunrise and sunset rules are retarded

one thing I forgot that i found a little odd was that he was really good at wearing orange vest or jacket and hat all gun. Then in late season he was ground hunting in all camo. Now I'm not worried about me, but this guy doesn't know any of the neighbors either. Like dude, just because YOU are bowhunting doesn't mean everyone else is.
