  1. this is too confusing. more details needed.
  2. as nomad pointed out it's not just that the land is greater, you really need to look at public huntable land. Half our state is urban and isn't even huntable, let alone public.
  3. I Know there was one in the early 2000's. Maybe even just 6 or 7 years ago. All day pouring shit rain.
  4. something many fail to understand about the midwest is the population of humans. There's like 3 nfl teams not including chicago. We have 3 just in one state. When I hunted MS the land was just vast. tons of farms, tons of woods. You're not comparing apples to apples with NY. You never can.
  5. If I make it to 7J, which is unlikely because it's kind of a hard hunt and i'm a pu$$y, it'll be my browning gold edition 12 gauge. If i sit a few hours in 8F until i get cold, wet or over it, it's the ruger american 30-06. I love both
  6. i've found the difference between cheap camo and expensive camo is generally the wind/rain blocker and layer of fleece or silent weave on top to keep it quiet. I don't own rain gear, what I own is real expensive whitewater (someone i think scentlok bought them) gear that is wind/waterproof. So i wear it no mater what in late season. I also bought a brimmed hat from cabelas that helps the rain drip off my gear and not down my back (i dont like hoods). The challenge will be wind. I don't have a rainproof facemask so I just might bring 2 with me and swap them out. http://www.cabelas.com/product/clothing/mens-hunting-clothing/mens-hunting-headwear/mens-cold-weather-hats/pc/104797080/c/104748480/sc/104380380/i/103956480/cabelas-hytrel-tinsulate-ii-jones-cap/2256704.uts?slotId=18
  7. i hunted MS for 2 seasons. the only ars's are on public land. The problem MS had was unlimited buck tags on private property and then unlimited doe everywhere. a few years later they realized they killed off all their females.
  8. x3. the rut is either glorious or frustrating. with cam technology we now have proof of our dumb stand selection. I was literally 30 yards away in different stands from a 120 and 130 class TWICE this year. I sat in the stand both time grunting and crying. that's just the breaks.
  9. some people aren't great hunters or scouters. The chase face was a little light this year in my area. I've been on the forum a while and don't see anything different this year other than we didn't get great weather. That weather affected some weekend hunts, but i promise you the bucks are out getting their tally whackers wet just like they do every year.
  10. if i remember right you're not a bow hunter. Remember a lot of us have meat in the freezer and plenty of time in the woods. I've not missed an opener since i was 16. This one is tough.
  11. i'm a weekend warrior gun hunter for the most part. I take my vacation during archery and usually a day or so during thanksgiving weekend.
  12. I’m a one night hanger. I try to hunt around this. If I’m leaving on a trip or have to work I make sure I have a backup to processing and it’s never steered me wrong. Heck I’ve cut up some early bow kills in the afternoon after just a few hours of hanging. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Ain’t nobody going to give you shit brother. Nice shooting and congrats on the first! I have no doubt you’re hooked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Deer move just fine in the rain. It’s the experience that suffers. Part of the fun of opener is a lot of hunters pushing deer. That is unlikely on Saturday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. was it a single lung or liver? what caused him not to die right away? just curious as we've had a lot of mortality discussion on here lately.
  16. And then you went ahead and hung him upside down... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  17. I have shot every deer I’ve ever killed with one version of rage or another and never lost one. Currently shooting chisel tips, not sure they still make them or not. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  18. Remember last year? Real warm than massive wind and ice/snow storm moved in to ruin the next few day? Ugh Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  19. Well a little low lol, Dead is dead though! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  20. I agree but this looks like a big front affecting the whole coast. High probability I think. Let’s hope they’re wrong Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. With a bunch of layers on it can get in the way of your draw, muscles tighten up in the cold etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I bet you that is 2% of NY hunters, so who cares? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
