I have killed some of my best bucks after 10. If you have had any action at all I'd stay put, only time I'd move if is i haven't seen a thing and for some reason i think i can move to a stand without busting bedded deer.
-
if i was against xbow and full inclusion why would i spend $1k to hunt with one? I know the point you think you're making, but I'm not spending hard earned money to do something I don't want to... to prove some point on the internet. Again, while I don't think the crossbow is a cure all to all troubles bow hunting, i don't have to hunt with one to know it's advantages and disadvantages and how they compare to the compound.

Regretting not having the crossgun? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wow man, I don’t I’ve heard that happen to anyone twice. Sounds like some lame trimming is in order. After it happened to me once on a nice buck I made sure every little twig was removed on every stand lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

deer are amazing survivors. how many times do we cut them open to find a pus sack over an old broadhead? a human would die of infection in a week. I think often one lung hits also kill because something else like the heart was clipped or the liver, artery etc. I think smaller deer are goners. but a big mature buck? idk...hope i never find out.
-
also depends on elevation. it can blow down through at a steep angle. And to be clear, i'm not arguing hers is a single lung. just hoping to educate. i shot an 8 one time from 25' in the air and he was at about 10 yards 2 oclock. Facing me and slight quartering towards. I blew down through one lung, out through liver and then guts. He plugged up and only had one drop of blood. After a few hours of grid search and thinking i had a gut shot (which technically i did) i found him.

that is kind of funny haha. I don't know, just read many an article on it. from deer biologists and hunters in D&DH.

when i started using advantix, my dog would still get one of 2 but never as bad as before we upgraded to the flea plus tick stuff. Another tip that a vet told me a long time ago. Don't apply the stuff after a bath. Give them a day or 2 for their oils to regenerate and also of course, keep them dry for a day or 2 so it doesn't wash off. good luck right? haha.

Interesting replies so far. I expected the health, advantage and time replies, but the ones that have me smiling a little is the only one I might use some day to get one. A new toy. It is as simple as that sometimes isn't it? My gun safe would concur.

To your first paragraph, i told you i'm not arguing that anymore, however I don't know anyone who uses a magnified scope or bipod on their compound. And yes pulling one off the hanger sounds like a pain, but it also sounds like maybe that particular setup (as someone else mentioned too) is not great for a crossbow. However, there are plenty of setups including some of the treeforts, ground blinds and ladder stands some members use that wouldn't make any of those issues you mentioned a problem. As far as scope up close? that too sounds like an equipment setup issue or better yet, a compromise that us gun hunters also make so that we can poke out a little further. Heck i have a 3.5-10 on my rifle. that's not good at 20 yards lol.
-
again that is not true. single lung shots are survivable.
-
bubbles aren't a guarantee it's lung. you also easily have a single lung AND liver. I'm not disagreeing with you, just don't want people to think certain colors and features are certainties.
-
i agree. i have been reduced to hands and knees searching a few times for my deer and others. it does pay off.
-
very sound advice

I'd like honest feedback here, and because I am who I am, I'm not sure I'll get it. But with a decent setup including accessories north of $500 or even $1k, why did you buy a crossbow to hunt 2 weeks in NY? Did you already have a compound or no? p.s does your wife know?
-
for arguments sake, the whole scope, bipod, stock and trigger thing has been beaten to death. I still maintain the loaded potential energy without the need to draw is the game changer for the crossbow. If you've bowhunted long enough you've been busted on a draw. slightly adding to that point is that on short notice and target acquisition the crossbow acts more like a gun then a bow. I raise, place crosshairs on target and squeeze. If I miss it's because i flinched, jerked etc. Very similar to a gun. With the compound, I not only have to acquire a target but align my peep after drawing. and before you say it, the likelihood of being busted for movement while raising the crossbow is no different than that of raising a gun and being busted.

it's good to have both. what's funny is i was in the tree typing that response when a 5 point showed up behind me. head out of your phone guys! lol

while i was blessed with rather large genitalia, i'm now married and not allowed to show it off. So I prove my manlyhood with my truck, car, motorcycle and killing big racked bucks. obviously...
-
i'm surprised at the body size on that rack though. the genetics on him! think about next year! hahaha
-
bahaha i just spit out some coffee. seriously.
-
that sucks. i'm wondering maybe single lung that hit opposite shoulder and that's why no pass through. tracking in golden rod is almost like a needle hunt, and you're most likely not going to get a lot of blood to track and probably just need to resort to grid searching. Good thing is you have lots of daylight and no rain in sight. curious about the distance and angle?

need to confirm with property owner.

Well I ended the morning passing on a spindly goofy racked 5. Spike and brow on one side. Saw him rub the hell out of a sapling 5 yards from me. I really waffles on shooting him and in the end, the lack of pounding heart and having to think about it gave him more life to live. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I subscribe to the weekly dec mailing and read these too. Best thing I ever bought was my garmin 62st. Don’t ever be too manly for a good gps in those big woods Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
