What a perfect morning. Isn’t there always a small part of you who doesn’t want to tag out early haha? 2 groups so far for a total of 3 shooter doe and 4 bb’s. 4!!! too early for flatheads but good action and I’m happy no matter what happens in the next hour.

i can't recall any dec stories about guys being busted for it. If there was some crackdown (very unlikely, they can't even catch poachers) than maybe. But it's like fireworks in NY. Nobody ever gets busted and nobody seems to care despite the law. Some folks in the DEC get to claim they are preventing CWD and encouraging fair chase and the slob hunters go and bait anyhow.

you might be surprised how prevalent it is on public land. When i hunted down south it was more common than on private land because your competition to draw the deer to your spot was greater, and there was no ability to food plot.
-
even if they banned it, people would just buy grain from tractor supply or apples. There's really no way around it. I'm not pro-baiting, but I'm not going to lose my shit about it either. I'd rather they add 30 minutes to the sunset rule more than anything.

i agree to a point. my dad hunts very little till after the 20th or so. Me, i might hunt one weekend day to keep the pressure off. It's nice to go out, but you're not forced to start hammering your stands. if your neighbors are hitting it hard in early bow than you have bigger problems, because that's just not good hunting.

how mad would you be if you actually had to use that shiny chrome cattle buster though

not sure i understand the term getting hit here, but I get the message. 10/2 last year (remember 10/1 was a washout), nice 8 point did exactly what you said, then made a turn into some thick stuff for no reason. Didn't kill me because the season was new. Little did I know he was the one of only 2 mature bucks that would even come close

dont forget to put a nice rail in there and electrical for an electric hoist or 2.

i'm not hiding, you're welcome to visit anytime. 2009 g8 gt. Not the gxp, but it's moded to over 400hp. And contrary to the 90's domestic muscle cars she auto x's very well. Typically outperforms the euros. The nice part about having a car and truck is that she's 8 years old but only 58k on her. I am getting the itch for something new, but don't want a new payment. Thinking cts-v or hellcat charger. I like my 4 doors. oh and yeah, the "pontiac" is really Australian haha

it's like a submissive/dominant thing. I have to be on my knees and beg. she peels little bits off and feeds them to me like a duck.

Squirrel hunted yesterday.....

that's really not anything to be proud of lol. -
there are so many good and bad stories about most shops. i've had good luck with traditions and guaranteed and others i know who hate them both. i think this time a year is tough for all of them, which makes your story odd. if anything they should be open later. maybe there's trouble in paradise.

I'm not sure your investment is worth it up north. Sure early season and weird weather can be warmer than we like, but mostly you'll have good hanging weather. Of course the issue is if your barn is heated. I like the idea of an insulated partitioned room with a window and cheap a/c unit. When you get into refrigeration you get expensive quick. do you plan to age the deer or just keep it cool over night? sometimes just a few bags of sealed ice in the chest is all you need on warm days.

i do basics like peep tubing repair, site installs, scope installs. I'm generally a diy guy, but I've only ever had one bow and I don't see a payback for the bow press and tools/supplies. All the guns I have are modern and tapped, so it's just a rail, scope rings and a torque driver. I will admit that it would be nice to restring a bow in a pinch if something happens during the season. That's always when the shops are slammed and i hate missing woods time.

Apple Tree Trouble
Five Seasons replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
if it's dying you can cut 1 or possibly 2 big trunks right off. if it's healthy it'll sprout new growth at the cuts. If it's just for deer, the apples will fall and I wouldn't mess with it. I brought 6 very tall and very old and dying and in some places rotted trees back to life. The pics are all on photobucket, but in some cases i cut most of the tree off. The next year i had new growth at the cuts. i thinned the new growth and apples once again appeared just 6' off the ground and the tree was completely rejuvenated. heck you can even graft on a new species. i also needed to cut down some of the broad leaf trees that had grown up around them to let the light back in. sucked the deer right in, gave me good wood for the smoke and good wood for the fireplace. -
pics or it didn't happen
