my guess is less of a sharpness issue and probably bent. A lot of places will balance and sharpen a blade for pretty cheap and if your blades are really old it's not that bad to just buy a new set. I've always liked having 2 sets as I will take one off at the end of the year, clean the deck and winterize and the second set goes on. This way you can take your time to sharpening them and if you need a quick backup from an oh sh!t moment. I use my worksharp with the tool grit. It's a nice kit for knives that does a halfway decent job on blades like lopers and mower blades.

my oldest is all in on football. He enjoys baseball, but the drive isn't there and I think kinda like me, he will eventually let it go as more and more stuff fills up his plate, but who knows. I just believe my job as a dad is to keep him engaged in stuff and like you said, let him figure it all out.

Anyhow, been spending 1 or 2 days a week at the farm since probably January. All the trails are utv/quad ready. Lately I've been mowing with the kunz I bought and this last weekend I sprayed the orchard for the 3rd time. I think I'm going to give up on the peaches. Many of them are just really old and regardless of the TLC probably needed to be cut down and replanted years ago, so wasting time and money on half dead tress with some bad curl going just doesn't make sense. The apples on the other hand are banging this year. No early frost and some good mowing and spraying and while they wont be sold to wegmans, I know the deer will be there good this fall. Clover plot is starting to really take off in some areas and there are patches where weeds and grass are coming in thicker than the clover. Eventually I'll need to spray and mow, but I was telling the wife the other night that success or fail, my foray into larger food plotting has been a success as I've learned a bunch and outside of a couple hundred bucks in seed, spray and fert, everything else will be used for the fall plot and any future plots. What i'm really toying with now is the idea of planting some mast trees where I plan to thin the peaches and the plums that are dying/dead. Otherwise it's just going to be open green space or a jungle. I may never reap the benefits of those mast trees, but my kids sure will. I'm thinking 1 or 2 more stands go in late summer too.

more pics of babe on boat please. congrats! -
Oldest plays Wednesdays and Saturdays. last night was rained out and they had memorial day off so now there's a double header on Saturday and the kids haven't played in a week and a half. At least it's not supposed to be hot. I also start my last of 4 seasons coaching t-ball on Saturday which is basically just herding cats haha

he was banned once and just came back as someone else. He's a habitual liar and 90% or more of his content has nothing to do with hunting, yet we have no active owner or even mods so it continues. I wish more people would just stop responding and maybe he'd go away or at least decrease in posting. Lord knows there are 100's of other forums and spaces to vent and talk about these topics if one wanted to.

I stopped by my food plot last night after being a little bummed seeing minimal 2 week growth, but wondered how the clover might do with 2.5 days of heat and sun and damn what a growth spurt. Garden same thing and with the rain yesterday things should be blowing up, I know for sure the mosquitos have.

It's 2022 and this is still the top post? Can we get some updates? -
careful, I was scolded for posting non-porn porn.

yeah we eat the hell out of our ground, meatballs, tacos, burgers, lasagna, etc etc. But for years when I kill a bunch I like to do sausage to mix it up. I think I'll probably still make it in the future too but not if it's a lean year. I see what you mean on their ratios now. Although their bfast sausage is pretty close to 50:50. Snack sticks even less than 50, which is a little odd
-
thanks, yeah i've just done the traditional pork butt or shoulder. My grind is all 80/20, which I know isn't even as lean as some do it. I will add that it's not bad. My wife and kids gave it all rave reviews, especially the kielbasa. But I'm always looking to do do better and figured I'd ask some of you pros. Anything more than 50/50 seems like it's not even wild game lol. Even 50/50 was tough for me... but I looked at it like "more sausage" haha.
-
On Saturday I did round 2 of sausage making. Last year I made 5 pounds of snack sticks and 5 pounds of breakfast sausage using the LEM seasoning kits and collagen casings. This year I did the same 5 pounds of breakfast sausage, but opted for 5 pounds of kielbasa instead. I also used my pellet smoker instead of my wood chip smoker as the temps are much easier to control. Finally I added the ice bath I've read about so that they don't overcook after removal. Everything online says 225 till an internal temp of 165. I cooked both products to high 150's and while they're both really good tasting they're still drier than I'd like. I should note I did a 50/50 mixture of pork and venison. I'm not expecting to ever replicate costanzas, but I'd like to get close. I have all the right tools I think. What can I do for safe, but moister sausage? The stuff from constanzas is like melt in your mouth juicy lol.

man I haven't had bad bugs all season but i grabbed my thermacell last minute sunday morning and it saved our ass. We were getting destroyed before we even set up even sprayed down with permethrin. That thing was god's gift to turkey hunters and stream fishermen.

thank god. was shaping up to be a depressing last week. Even still not a lot of birds fell on the forum this year.

Proposed crossbow legislation for 2022
Five Seasons replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I already told you 3 times that I know it happens. The difference is that you condone it and I take issue with it. Good luck to you this season, at this point you keep making new and conflicting points and arguing more that I've already addressed. cheers and happy Friday sir. I hope someone doesn't poach one of your trophy class bucks outta your cage and sell its rack to feed one of their hungry kids... although not sure you'd mind. -
Proposed crossbow legislation for 2022
Five Seasons replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
my bad, you said there were no deer around because of them, so i misread that. What would you propose the season dates be changed to? Seems like you agree and disagree with ole sperm collector. The state offers predation permits and it's often lawful to shoot or trap animals out of season that are categorized as nuisance. So what damage are you talking about? At first you just said an 80 year old guy is going to use his crossbow because albany is stupid. Now we're talking about animals damaging property and doing whatever. It just keeps going with your stories. What line is ok to cross and what's not? If my families starving is it ok to steal bread to feed them? -
Proposed crossbow legislation for 2022
Five Seasons replied to nyslowhand's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I'm not sure I understand. You say these guys are just out there slaughtering regardless of law. What would season dates matter to them? You think an archery course would drastically change hunter habits? Hell if I had a crossbow without the NY limits I don't see why I wouldn't feel comfortable taking 50 yard shots off my ladder stand rest.
