  1. I find the philosophy that some have interesting. " it's legal so he can do what he wants". And I'm not saying that's wrong, but hunting is an interesting area. It's not always black and white and the government isn't always right. If they were right, game laws would not have evolved as much as they have. I do support self imposed restrictions and do not find fault in those whose restrictions are different than mine... But that blanket statement does bother me. Instead of asking someone to butt out... Why can't we discuss the killing of a fox as peers? A few posted info both in favor and against it that I previously didn't even know. Let's stop resorting to "it's legal, so it's right" I'd like to arrow a fox someday, but not sure I can. I think they're fun to watch.
  2. My ruger 10/22 was my first gun. Still have it and love it. Great gun to learn on. I think a solid 20 should be ok for most kids. Maybe see if you can borrow one from a friend and see what your kid thinks. MossberG 500 12's kick pretty bad and I bought an 835 and put a recoil pad on it. Not sure about 20's. I bought into the 3.5" shot for turkey ... Also you can get good 2 barrel packaged that come with bird, turkey and even rifled slug.
  3. Sometimes at the end of a season you just have to flip a coin
  4. What if you're walking your dog with your 6 year old daughter. You come across a wounded, vocal and dying fawn in a ditch. You have your CC with you and you're in the country. Not many houses and a 5-10 min police response time. Your daughter is balling her eyes out.
  5. Back I'm the stand finally after a week out of town. Missing the white stuff already.
  6. And everyday you read about adult men molesting innocent children... Bad stuff happens and it doesn't make it ok. What's your point? We all have different ideas on what we think we would do in a given situation. Some say they would run into a burning building to save someone and in reality they never would. You really never know what you might do until you're presented with the choice. Every situation is different.
  7. Right. It's middle of the road. Fwiw, my other cams aren't that great.
  8. So to clarify, if a deer is gut shot, I would advise backing out like you said. But IF you do come to the suffering deer, than that's what I think we're talking about.
  9. I imagine, just like a traffic ticket, your presentation of the facts and how you're conducting yourself and your attitude go a long way with the ECO's decision.
  10. JJ, Depending on the situation, I would put just about any if God's creatures out of their misery if presented with decision.
  11. Shoot it and put it out of its misery. Very simple. But we like to argue this topic here... I would not shoot it after calling the dec and they said no. But I also wouldn't call. Wait for it...
  12. Wannabe bow hunters? Let's see some studs you dropped with your bow please. We've all had a day ruined in the stand. Even those of us who hunt private land. Get over it. It's part of hunting. Maybe you should get one of them fancy jobs that provides paid vacation.
  13. Not only are you not a professor, you're not even writing at a 3rd grade level. You contradicted yourself several times and therefore your story is confusing.
  14. Congrats bud. Although this will also now be an anniversary date too. So count at least one day out of your season! My family may have killed me if I got married during the season and they lost a day. Haha
  15. You can hunt your whole life. Don't choose it over school. I didn't even pick up bow hunting until towards the end of college. I needed to focus on school and knew I had to practice to be a good archer, so school and sports won over. In high school I only gun hunted a few weekends a year. Just no time. My hard work has paid off and I was able to buy a nice home on some good land and I'm able to walk out my back door. Keep that in mind when you choose hunting over school.
  16. Amen to that. My wife yelled at me once for not slowing down for someone who was merging. It was at this point that I re-educated her to the rules of the road. If you merge into me. You're at fault.
  17. I think so. I have a few fruit trees and He's eating the apples that fell on the ground. I rely on those to fertilize the lawn! Haha
  18. Camogirl. All been there. Still there. But work hard and one day you'll be the idiot giving the orders. You'll always have a boss but it's nice when you're handing out orders too and not just receiving them.
  19. 1. People who use a sig, that's not put into the sig section of the forum drive me nuts. Learn some proper forum etiquette. 2. Wtf is going on in here?
  20. I'm on a business trip this week. My wife text me yesterday morning to tell me the big 10 point was in our back yard around 7am eating apples with a doe. Perfect. Fml...
  21. A blind with a heater? Curious; Have you quit?
  22. Hi 20's, low 30's. The key is no or little wind.
