  1. farm raised deer is completely legal. No different than raising a cow. Many places out west will offer you all sorts of game from Elk to Moose etc. My brother in law is a head chef at a pretty fancy restaurant. the venison does taste a little better but it could be how he's cooking it. It's a little softer, but I think the venison i harvest myself always tastes the best
  2. Second rut already you think? I certainly feel the rut has tapered, but it was late and usually mz shows the second rut?
  3. Started pounding my apples during the storm this weekend. I had 14 doe/fawn/bb's around me at one point.
  4. snow always seems to get them moving too.
  5. agree. what a wild story. congrats
  6. tough story to hear skunks. Good luck.
  7. a couple forums i visit have a "random thoughts and stories thread". they're all over 300 pages. You go there and just type down your gripes or thoughts or stories that don't really warrant a new thread. keeps the good topics from falling down when some of the lesser popular ones get posted. I vote that we sticky one here in the general chit-chat section.
  8. Curious to your thoughts Bubba. Do you think someone who loses their license for perhaps knowingly doing something illegal even cares about losing it (talking legitimate poachers here)? How many do you think continue to hunt. Lets be honest, it's not to hard to shoot a deer, skin and cut it up in your barn. On the other hand, taking a licensee from someone for bending the rules to put a deer out of its misery might not be the kind of guy who continues to hunt, but also ends up giving up on hunting and no longer buying a tag.How many of these guys do you think "get back into it" after 5 years at all, and how many just hunt their private land anyhow...
  9. we need a better mix of "educating and teaching". Most of us are guilty of being to harsh or to lenient. But if we push away the new guys they'll never come back to share and learn. Then they end up as a good portion of the other NYS hunters doing things unintentionally illegal or worse.
  10. where are you? we hardly even had snow around us in Rochester for 2 winters in a row now.
  11. absolute junk. Switched to shockwave and the accuracy off the bench with my CVA was 10 times better. I've heard great things about Barnes as well, but have not personally tried them.
  12. Thousands Taxidermy in Jamesville. Awesome work.
  13. Jesus Buba he's talking about typical fall/winter patterns he's used to, not winter vs summer. Stop trying to pick everything I say apart because you've got a hardon for me.
  14. The deer's eyes are glowing and clearly a zombie, so I believe you were justified.
  15. Good luck. I haven't hunted forever, but I don't normally see the deer change patters too much based on the weather.
  16. Any new neighboring pressure or change in crops? I've found you can kill a lot of younger deer in the open, but the big guys like to hang where it's thick and nasty. Seen them coral a doe back into the thick stuff to avoid the open themselves. They don't get old and big by being careless.
  17. I've had good action but the rut had been feast or famine on our properties. Seems I'm getting voided or tons of deer. I blame the lacy that they moved the corn at our one place.
