2.5 is a good guess, or 3.5 with bad genetics.

Selfishly I would not want to give up that last weekend. And as far as I know the few extra weeks we received was the concession the DEC made for bowhunters losing it. But most will argue that a weekend in the rut is far more valuable than 2 full weeks of mosquito swatting. But like I said, i would still vote to give the youth the last weekend. I understand the need to have a youth hunt. I have always struggled with what are we gaining by having it so early. Would these kids not otherwise hunt with a gun? Are we setting them up for unrealistic expectations when they're too old to youth hunt and enter the woods in cold november where all the deer are now spooked? Do we really have enough bow hunters willing to give up their own personal time? my stance? I really don't care either way. I just struggle with the logic and this years cover of the rules and reg book. How do you declare success? Were there goals before the program started that were met? It's easy for a the implementer of the policy to claim success. It's harder for the opposition.

but Ohio has done sooo many things right for soooo long. At least that's what the xbow hunters tell me. Interesting concept though. First I heard of it and not sure it matters if you can drill a spike again on monday?

you don't care what I shoot, but continue to point it out and post about it? check. we've been over it. I have shot nothing but 8 and bigger for 5 years in a row, minus a decent 5 point during bow last year. I was proud of that kill and it was one of the best i've ever eaten. To be a horn hunter you may never kill a doe or small deer for the rest of your life? check. I'll continue to be a meat hunter who passes on inside the ears and less than 8 than, but occasionally shoots below his goal for whatever reason. We need a new name for this style of hunting. Or maybe you should just get off my nuts.

If I had a vote, I'd rather they shortened gun season like most states already have. Give the first weekend to the youth and return opening day to Monday. JJB, I have no beef with you taking your kid(s) out this weekend. so long as you don't have a gun yourself relax. it was a joke.

rabble, rabble, rabble. I've never said boo about meat hunters, you're always starting it with us "trophy hunters". Again, good read. Back on topic.

i'm glad you guys could keep this civilized. All I did was ask a question. You don't even know how I feel about it. I have over a thousand acres of private land to enjoy. So I'm all set with your squirrel hunting. but you did answer my question so thanks. oh, because I love controversy. Avoid the hens during fall turkey. Turkey's aren't doing so well and even the NWTF agrees we need to do more. all for now.

waiting for meat hunters to come in. good read. thanks for sharing.

would your son not also hunt opening day?
-
well that's not a good answer...

F. That. They shouldn't apologize for sh!t. If it was that important to the area, the gov't would have outlawed it. I know this comes across as insensitive, but we don't apologize to Muslims every time we eat pork or Hindus for eating cows. If you believe certain things, then you should follow them, if you don't you shouldn't have to apologize to those that do. -off to write letter to Tom Cruise for making fun of Scientology.

that's my thinking too. Although if you ever wanted to hunt something bigger like big bear you'd be better off with the 30-06, not to say the .270 isn't fine for gear but the .270 is better for predators too. IDK, I have ego issues and always assume bigger is better Personally I like the .308. Maybe pick up a .270 and save up for a .308 or bigger later in life. You don't need it all right now. Rifles can be pretty affordable, especially used.

i've been wondering where to get these. anywhere in Rochester that has them? -
super thick is where it's at. 90% of hunters wont mess with it because of that, but if you have the time (and it's a little late this season), get in there and cut some lanes and find a good tree. It's hard to tell from one pic, but it could be a great bedding or transition area and deer will probably find it safer then out in the open. What you see in the summer seems to change when they start smelling us in the woods and even more so when the guns go off.

try to let the little guys go if you can, but if you haven't shot a lot of deer, you need to learn so take what you can and don't worry about the trophies just yet.
-
but what about hunting do you enjoy? so you're after it for the meat. That's a great reason to hunt. My sincere question for shawn is why does he hunt? He has given away or tossed back straps and just claimed he would not shoot a big buck.
-
can you get a little further back and wait on the other side of that clearing?
-
ok, remove the word goal steve. How about this: "Why do you hunt?" You HAVE to have an answer to that question. People don't just DO things for no reason, especially something like hunting, which you pointed out is not a requirement to survive in the modern era.

congrats

love it. great work.
