  1. I'm pessimistic... My generation has little interest, so I can only imagine what the instant gratification of my son's generation will be like. 4 hours in the cold woods and I didn't even see a deer? this stinks! But society can be cyclical some times and the "organic and green" movements may help. Nothing is more organic then venison, and its lean and healthy as well. If we go too far in the "technology" side of things, I think you may see people push back a little and try and get more in touch with "the old way of doing things". We shall see.
  2. agreed for longer hunts. For shorter hunts I eat a power bar. Nothing like the 10 for $10 at tops and they're loaded with protein. Only problem is the wrappers are loud and they are hard to eat when cold. apples and bananas for me too.
  3. I think most of you are missing his point. I don't feel any differently about those who make spelling and grammar errors. But if you were to write a letter to a senator or a letter to the editor in support of our second amendment rights, or hunters rights I'd hope you would be representing us well. And if you don't care how you portray yourself, I find that odd but that's your issue not mine. But in some cases you represent a group (the 2 cases I mentioned above), and you should care then. Nothing will make your argument fall on its face faster then coming across as uneducated.
  4. here's 2 examples of the gopro. The problem is it doesn't zoom. I would use a good camera like some of the guys on here do, and then maybe a gopro positioned at your face to catch expression. my comments on what you're watching is in the video description, The stands about 25' up, same for the barn window. I have another video of 2 deer at 15 and they look like 40 on the gopro.
  5. rifle and crossbow isn't as fair as shotgun (slug) vs crossbow. Can I shoot this one at you at 150yards? What if I used compressed air to propel the bolt? Can that be allowed in archery? All I'm doing is pulling the trigger and out comes the bolt. Is it really that different than a crossbow? (it's funny how the poster classifies this as a crossbow in his comments) i've had people sway me on subjects I dont feel strongly about. and of course there are the fence sitters. Honestly though? I'm just in it to kill some time haha.
  6. old graveyards fascinate me. I'd love to know the story behind the babies. Was it sickness or a bad drought? Just to be taken back to that time and imagine how the small town or family was coping with it.
  7. I have a cannon rebel t3i. awesome pictures but i'd never bring it into the stand. I have been playing around with my gopro in the stand. Not exactly like watching the outdoor channel, but pretty cool.
  8. today i brushed my teeth and drove to work. Exciting!
  9. some major distributors still run into mad cow, selmanela, ecoli and contamination issues. There's a new recall for meat or vegetables once a month it seems. I think the general concern is that these animals are harvested in the wild by amateurs, gutted by amateurs and then butchered. And there's very little control a butcher has to exam the meat to see if its sat to long, if the deer was sick or if it could have been contaminated. It's unfortunate because I believe 98% of the hunters have a good agenda. But when highly regulated beef industry still has issues, the chances of issues here seem to be greater. I'm not saying i agree at all with what is happening but I do see their side of it.
  10. i wonder if hollywood can buy large sugary sodas in NYC too...
  11. screw the article, anyone else see that monster rack on the floor?
  12. “Here we have a weapon of beauty and romance. He who shoots with a bow, puts his life’s energy into it. The force behind the flying shaft must be placed there by the archer. At the moment of greatest strain, he must draw every sinew to the utmost; his hand must be steady; his nerves under absolute control; his eye keen and clear. In the hunt he pits his well trained skill against the instinctive cunning of his quarry. By the most adroit cleverness, he must approach within striking distance, and when he speeds his low whispering shaft and strikes his game, he has won by strength of arm and nerve. It is a noble sport.” -- Dr. Saxton Pope (1923)
  13. you claim I have blinders, but the word pre-edit means nothing? I'm backpedaling? I forget how many deer you've taken with a bow, or if you bowhunt. I dont even really care anymore. You have a hard on for me and the NYBH, and I'm over letting you get to me but I'll concede that despite my best efforts that you have. I have a good job, a wife and kid and I'm a happy man. I dont need to keep fighting with a lonely man on the internet.
  14. wtf are you talking about? I told you exactly what I did when I said "pre-edited". seriously do you not see what I was doing to prove a point?
  15. i was simply proving to you that wikipedia is not a reliable source. That was all. You never responded to my question about writing a college paper sorting it though. Although if your eyes make a noise when they roll, maybe I already know the answer... but you can quote the dictionary http://dictionary.re...wse/archery?s=t http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/archer?s=t notice it refers to an archer as bows an arrows, nothing about bolts...
  16. i gotta admit the story is creepy, but thinking you were going to shoot at someone because they were a native american had me stumped haha. you hear the stories all the time in the news though. "hikers/hunter finds body" people who dump bodies in the woods I think believe nobody goes in the woods. haha.
  17. crazy, but i bet you'd only run into teens and not the mexican drug cartel up here. you guys calling the cops is just mean craziest I guess for me is an old farming dump site. Big pile of rock and just tons of glass bottles, metal and porcelain stuff all in a pile. Leftover from the days it was farmed. Coolest thing I found in there was an old 6 shooter in real rough shape. I was maybe 9 or 10 and when I picked it up, a bunch of ants had made a nest inside, so it skeaved me out and i let it lie. I also got permission to hunt some land in Alden and during scouting found a dump pile with about 20 out of season deer carcases. I assumed nuisance permits and only ever turkey hunted it.
  18. I'm not sure what school you graduated from, but wikipedia is not the definitive say in anything. Do you know how wikipedia works? anyone can create and edit anything, you dont even need an account. Write a college paper and use wikipedia as a source. let me know how well you do. for example, please go back now and read your second link and let me know where someone with a crossbow is mentioned as an archer but pre-edit here is some statements from your wonderful wikipedia that counter your point In the armies of Europe,[42] mounted and unmounted crossbowmen, often mixed with javeliners and archers, occupied a central position in battle formations. Today, the crossbow often has a complicated legal status due to the possibility of lethal use and its similarities to both firearms and archery weapons. While some jurisdictions regard crossbows the same as firearms, many others do not even require any sort of license to own a crossbow — even for people, such as felons, who may not legally possess a firearm. The legality of using a crossbow for hunting varies widely, however (especially in United States), and is beyond the scope of this article. so you can see. claiming it as 100%, is in fact 100% false... i'm over it. it's fun to kill the time at work but its run its course again...
  19. But is it considered archery? It's not "bow season" it's a special archery season. I hear the "it's real old and used in the medieval times" argument. But those who used it were referred to as crossbowman, not archers. I just don't see how something with a trigger, no requirement to draw and a scope should be allowed in the season. Use it during late and regular if you love it so much.
  20. and you'll hear no argument from me, although i'm on the fence with the youth inclusion.
  21. ahh the old recurve standby... if you cant see the similarities in a compound and a recurve vs a crossbow then all hope i ever had for you is lost.
  22. then why did our state make them illegal? why is there countless articles dissecting the difference. It's not a fact. You need to understand that a large population dont bleieve its a fact. And until you see that we cannot continue to discuss this. You can state "you believe it's a bow" but you cant claim it as fact.
