  1. You are correct, you can only load 150 grains by volume of BH in the ultimate (that is from BH). I got sick of the cleaning a long time ago, that's why I went with building smokeless. Now I shoot H4198 powder and size my bullets for the barrel without the use of sabots. It is extremely accurate, with much less headaches.
  2. I build smokeless muzzleloaders. The Remington is NOT designed for smokeless powder, it is designed to take the pressure of 200 grains of Blackhorn 209 or any other black powder substitute. The other thing that people need to be aware of is that bullet weight also plays a part in the pressure the barrel and breech plugs sees, not just the powder charge. Back a while ago Savage (the only major manufacturer to design and build a smokeless muzzle loader) got a bad rap for some guns blowing up like this. To my knowledge every one of those guns that blew up where either double loaded or overcharged. The two main major issues that can happen with a muzzle loader is the double load, which most people are aware of and the double charge. The double charge is where you are at the range and dump a charge down the barrel, then get distracted and dump another charge down the barrel. Both of these issues can be caught by using a witness mark. For everyone's safety, PLEASE use a witness mark!
  3. HS Precision makes one, I have it in .280 Remington and 7mm Remington Mag.
  4. The diseases you are referring to are related to shared water and parasites, not baiting... Plenty of states allow some form of attraction without disease (ie. EHD, blue tong, CWD, ect). But, that's another discussion.
  5. Those tags are available for "EACH FARM UNIT" which consists of 2 contiguous acres that meet re requirements outlined. A general tag is a buck tag, and these are in addition to your regular resident tags.
  6. Shortening the gun season allows more bucks to survive eventually leading to bigger bucks. That's why they are proposing shortening the gun season.
  7. For deer you really want a bullet with a thin jacket that will open up. this will increase the shock to the animal as well as leave a larger exit wound. For deer I really like a nosler ballistic tip in anything from a 243 on up to a 300 class rifle. I also really like the nosler accubonds, they are just a bonded ballistic tip. I'm not a fan of partition type or solid copper type bullets for deer as they do not expand enough in my opinion.
  8. That stuff is pultruded FRP grating (yes fiberglass). It is very slip resistant. The only thing you need to watch with that stuff is some of it doesn't do well with UV light, most of it however is fine in UV.
  9. I think Fletch is really on to something. My brother-in law is a fireman as well as one of my good friends. They work 24 hr when they are on, but are off a ton. If you also learn a trade, you could have the best of both worlds. You can work your normal fireman job and on your off days you can pick up side jobs doing electrical, plumbing, ect. Then during hunting season you just don't take any side work. This will also give you plenty of disposable income.
  10. No, you get 4 circumference measurements. H1 through H4. http://www.boone-crockett.org/bgRecords/bc_scoring_typwhitetail.asp?area=bgRecords&type=Typical+Whitetail+Deer
  11. I came up with 172 2/8" Spread 20" Beams: R=24" L= 25" Left: G1 5" Circ 4.75" G2 12" Circ 4.75" G3 11.5" circ 5" G4 4" circ 5" Right: G1 4" circ 5" G2 12.5" circ 5" G3 10" circ 5" G4 2" circ 5" sticker points 3/4" 2"
  12. from the first set of pics it looks like you might be able to get the stand up into the first cluster of branches on the tree, that will help a lot and should get you up to around 15' high.
  13. I believe it depends on the caliber of the rifle (believe it needs to be less than .22 caliber if centerfire at night during deer season). the other issue you have is I don't believe an e-caller is legal for use for deer or turkeys.
  14. I think the thing that keeps coming up is that whoever is actively hunting deer, and that the xbow is not legal to hunt deer at this time. Why has it not been brought up that maybe the person is actively hunting turkeys, in which case both implements are legal to use. I totally understand both sides of this, but the issue is very gray.
  15. However both of those implements are legal to hunt turkeys with, so is what you did really illegal? Who's to say you aren't hunting turkeys? Both of those implements are commonly carried at the same time in the spring turkey season.
  16. Great buck Buckmaster! When it dries, it will likely be right about 135 dandy buck for NY especially with a bow. I would love to see the score sheet compared to what I posted earlier, I'm thinking I was short on the mass measurements after seeing the after take photos. In the posted measurement I used 9" for the G2, G3 on the left side and it looks like they averaged 9.25", so not too far off there. What was the inside spread by chance? Biz, you just won't give up will you? I guess I can respect that...
  17. I know how to measure mass, the main beam isn't over 1" in diameter making the mass measurement 3"
  18. You need to look at other items in the picture for scale. Compare the tine lengths to the spread and the deers head, if those tines are 12" as you are saying the spread would have to be 24" and it's not. Here I gave you guys another inch on those tines just for fun... Spread 16" Main beams 22" Left side: Brow: 3", circ. 3" G2: 9", Circ. 2.5" G3: 9", Circ. 2.5 G4: 2.5", Circ. 2" Right Side: Brow: 5", Circ. 3" G2: 6", Circ. 2.5" G3: 7", Circ. 2.5" G4: 7", Circ. 2" G5: 1.5", Circ. 2" Total Gross = 132
  19. The ears on the buck in the trail cam pic will be wider than the outside spread if laid down, making the spread 16". Don't get me wrong, it's a nice deer but I really think the picture is deceiving. It really doesn't matter to me what the deer scores, for one cause I don't get hung up on score and for two I'm not hunting the deer. If the OP takes the deer and gets it scored and it's over 140, I'll buy him lunch that's all I'm saying. And good luck to him!
  20. Those tines are 8" at best, that deer is 16" wide inside, and the tines are roughly half the width...
  21. I would say between 127 and 135, sometimes scale is a bit tough with pictures.
  22. Leupold Vari-X IIc 3-9x40 with Nickel finish with duplex radical. There are no scratches or ring marks, all lenses are perfect. No box or paperwork. $220 shipped. Email at [email protected] or private message. Thanks
  23. In addition, you can use a regular air compressor with a blow gun with a rubber tip. It doesn't take as much effort as you would think to push it out. Oh, and make sure you have it pointed in a safe direction...
