  1. It seems that NYers like to hide behind the legality of cheapening their hunting experience by any darn shortcut they can take...note this thread borders one on making baiting legal....&^% of our survey goers say pro Ar and the pics paint a drastic difference....so frickin sad.
  2. i am ready to push for bait free trail cam pictures on NY hunting sites....wtf? cheaters everywhere
  3. Though an obvious supporter due to the simple effective (though flawed) approach..... look at all the forums online and buck contests...NY hunters are set in their baby killer ways...compare the survey on here to that of pics posted. Maybe 2 bucks posted were older than 2.5.... Passed on a 115 8 sunday- neighbor killed him yesterday...sucked in principal but know i can and will do better at some point on will shoot does to balance the herd and provide meat. Like those who disagree say- if you dont like it- too bad its my right..and its my opinion that the hunting experience in NYS is compromised by killing juvenile bucks.. as for the 15% of the deer take form the NZ..you guys are on your own...just referencing SZ guys here...
  4. An animal that bases its life on its nose for guidance probably doesnt out think us but knows when to "call a duck a duck".... just my thoughts though
  5. never understood why somany do not practice once the season starts (bow, gun, whatev)... You reap what you sow.... just my $0.02 that came from worse instances than yours
  6. Very nice buck and appraoch. Congrats
  7. My guess is low 140s hard horned....no minerals there, right? just a plot?
  8. Get one of Fiduccias books or Deer Talk...it is not random vocalizations and your question is apples vs oranges
  9. A strother vanquish 27.5" 65#...coming from a tried and true bow hoe...it was the best hunting bow my hands have ever seen
  10. I use a flambeau (~115") and i have had 4 pts charge it, and 130s run from it. Individual buck perosnalities matter. Of all the hunting gimmicks beyond calling (such as scents) a decoy is the only that will stay in my arsenal. Usually when things go wrong it is in the setup. I have pulled some bucks clear across an open field with it. My advice is not to use one where there are lots of doe groups though.....if anyone wont like the setup; its a doe.
  11. but all take self control.......the lacking factor (although legal) of most NY gun hunters and a limited few bowhunters in this state ;D
  12. I love telling people how slaughter houses work if they make a comment about hunting being cruel. usually shuts them up.
  13. cant keep every littl efish you catch during fishing season can you? an shoot everything duck that flies by during duck season either.
  14. For the record- I am not bashing, though surely not endorsing, the shoot anything thats legal philosophy. QDM- most folks do not get it..it is not about huge bucks or food plots..... Agree with your point. If guys knew their neighbor wouldnt shoot that 6..there goes their biggest excuse to pull the trigger. Know what happened when i started passing on little guys? I saw more deer including bigger bucks. But thta was a commitment with not exception. I had the ability to shoot 5 does last year......no need for me to kill a buck unless he is of my trophy level. Guessing the dont shoot doe mentality is almost as harmful as the shoot any buck one. Wish folks would get it in western/central NY we have big bucks..just hold out and dont shoot them early....plenty of does to shoot. Age is all we're lacking to have trophy bucks a more common occurence. Just my $0.02 though
  15. Kids should have free reign their first couple years. The spike debates, and overall trophy decline....all make sense- Yes! BUT, in NY the reason we dont have more big guys running around is not genetics it is age! Thats where we are screwed up. ARs are flawed but an easy system for most to get....probably the easiest and most sensible system. There are not that many spikes out there or 3.5 yo 6's....... have any of you hunted michigan? totally different ball game. I would model after Ohio......but NY has way too many whiney gun hunters.....and you could happily shoot spikes there...or Booners.....
  16. It is interesting to see at least 41% approval on here yet the foes are the only ones posting........ you guys better hurry up and shoot those fawns before someone holds you accountable on knowing what it is you fling lead at
  17. Where are you getting this info from? some things never change..... :
  18. good ones and brown ones lots of the pros and orange coats are both proclaiming big guys everywhere
  19. ARs may not be the answer but they sure beat 60-70% of our harvest being 1.5 or less.......
  20. I wont bother to post the same valid arguments as i did on the old forum... But do you guys realize how hypocritical you are? "Dont judge us....but we will judge you." Life is full of choices boys/girls.....dont say "it is a lack of time" until you know how much the other guy does. Not one of you would pass a 150" buck for the scrubby 1.5 you may have shot last year.....so sour grapes come into play. If you need to feed your family- work more and hunt less....and you should surely not criticize another prioritization. Regardless- the hayday slaughter will end soon....then you can save your money on licenses (maybe buying more food for you family>>> ??? ) rather than have to wait in those providing woods for urgent tag fill...... Finding success in life starts with dropping excuses and the getting the "making it happen" attitude. Good luck to you in your endevours....
  21. For me a buck less than 2.5 in NYs is a small buck....but have passe don 3.5 yos Never had a deer build my ego...but would say any hunter would shoot the biggest buck they could if it were within there effort range. In my opinion, most hunters are too lazy to research/know their ground or even the nature of their query. This fine state allow the harvest of any buck- not going to knock anyones legal right. Many states are into herd management (do not read as trophy management) and do nto support the idea of shooting the young of such a species. My guess is your thoughts of old will become in the times of it as well......
  22. For me; I never eat doe tags or bucks that aren't worth mounting Guys who think they can harvest big bucks don't shoot little ones for many reasons...it was wasted preparation time (which is why many never see good ones), a closed door in terms of opportunity, a step down in professionalism, and a few more.......but if you live in an areas with no deer or just want to shoot brown things because bucks or effort isn't "your thing"- you can do just that (esp. Here in NY)
  23. Guys who see big bucks dont shoot little ones....
