on the way back from vacation at airport in Charlotte, NC some of us had Olde Mecklenburg Copper Ale. That was really good beer. only available in Germany and there in Charlotte supposedly. earlier this week stocked the fridge with some more run of the mill stuff, cans of Sam Winter Lager and Octoberfest.

carter rx series index trigger releases are nice too
-
thumb triggers and index triggered releases are both equally as accurate. I shoot both. thumb triggers for competition and wrist strap index trigger for hunting. thumb triggers are said to be more accurate because a good thumb trigger hand held release can have a trigger with minimal travel that can break crisper than glass. most don't practice correctly enough with a wrist strap index trigger. they punch or pluck at the trigger. a hand held release can be shot equally as bad though. it won't change draw length but anchor point and peep alignment will probably be different. I would stick with a wrist strap index trigger release. a lot of good ones out there. I'd go with one that has adjustable barrel length. if you shoot a D-loop use a hook style vs jaws. also go buckle versus Velcro for consistency in feel, length of release, and anchor points. I've had great luck and customer service experience with TRU Ball releases.

What happened to the Xbow inclusion thread?
dbHunterNY replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in CrossBow Hunting
the only places I know of where crossbows aren't allowed are mostly urban areas of Rochester, Albany, Westchester, and south of there. if crossbow becomes just another implement by law regulated by DEC then I'd bet my savings they'll included unless local ordinance laws are passed to prevent it. with required doe harvest in those areas that they desire they couldn't pass up utilizing another implement like a crossbow. -

I honestly doubt I could shoot that handicapped bow or any similarly accessorized bow remotely as well as my normal compounds. matter of fact I'd put money on it. it sure is an odd contraption. -
filming or taking pictures passes time like crazy. I usually work in half hour increments when things get slow. i'll still here for a half hour regardless if anything has shown. I use my smart phone also to take some photos for educational stuff like hunting or deer management tips. also an observation log and DEC bowhunter log keep me busy enough. I just record sightings in smart phone note pad and write all the stuff down later. I usually sit until almost noon and then telling myself the morning is obviously over. i'll get down then, get something to eat and check trail cameras.

stand up guy kind of offer. keep the young fella in the game though. i'll be alright. I've got meat in the freezer already from the compound this year. also if I really feel I need a crossbow I have the means to get one whether I buy it or borrow one from a friend. -
Another Clothing line to check out .....

multiple deer in range is tougher to coordinate, especially doe. keep pulling eyes off the view finder to foresee what's going on and not be on the wrong deer.

another thing no need for a camera in your hands if you've got a camera guy. it helps for him/her to be in the same tree 45 degrees to the right (if you're right handed) and above though. if you're too far apart to talk as a deer passes through the set use a signal with minimum movement like thumbs up or thumbs down to let them know when the deer will be in your wheel house. then they just have to stay on it in those locations. set your camera with a "fish eye lens" or use a GoPro mounted stationary and pointing at you. manual zoom works better for camera man. otherwise things like brush, limbs, or the blind itself battles auto focus with the actual deer.

once you try filming that is your focus. it's a whole different world though especially self filming. there's a lot going on. it's not even cold yet. wait until a really really cold day were you have to take out the battery and put it in your coat to warm it up. my best advice would be to film with the intent to shoot as a first priority. right now your going to shoot with filming your first priority. you have something called pre-roll then the actually recording the shot. first worry about the pre-roll. that's the deer coming into the set or hanging out beyond your range. once coming into range pick a spot where you think it's going. pan to that spot and zoomed out enough to cover the whole open shooting area. then forget the camera. just focus on shooting the deer even if it's not in the frame. you'll get better at working both and be more intuitive on when to let go of the camera. I don't film much but my biggest problem was being zoomed in to much and chasing the deer to keep in the frame versus moving through the frame. hope that helps.

I'm not a mod but I see no reason to delete it unless people get really nasty and are just attacking each other. this seems to be just disagreement. this thread has happened so many times I don't think any intent is to sway anyone. just people trying to send home their point of view. -

advantages of a crossbow are readily apparent I'd think by now. any advantage isn't something so ridiculous that it can't be compared to other differences in implements NY has now. accuracy is probably the biggest gripe. in a real world hunting situation versus backyard bench rest shooting there's not much difference. bows are accurate. Indian's are not. -

so this thread is stuck in the mud a little.... anyway thought I'd share. cut my bow hand this past weekend. seems I'm done until it heals which is probably going to be right through until gun season. IF I owned a crossbow I'd still be able to go out hunting. really does suck as I consider the best hunting coming up. another reason a normally perfectly able hunter can stay in the woods. -
i shoot a TC ProHunter. I've had good luck with both TC bonded shockwaves and hornady low drag SST 250gr sabots. shockwaves were a tighter fit and actually 150gr on the dot shot really well. sst sabots aren't as tight of a fit and shoot better backed off a little bit from the same powder charge. 100gr was still MOA and I shot that last but could be better. I've got the gun to shot single hole in the past but over the years it's changed a little and had a light pitting around where the powder ring formed.

iPhone 4S with a case over it takes horrible pictures. also I usually practice coming to full draw on deer despite intending on giving them a pass. I always have a tag for them, but finger is behind the trigger as an extra precaution. sometimes more for will power failure than equipment failure. the 8 pointer I passed was about the size of the 2nd buck picture at minimum. studied him for a while too and was 2.5 yrs old all day long based on many body characteristics.

if I get any around Albany I'll post them up.

for someone who hasn't been doing it as long as others your mounts do come out really well. I'm sure whomever you mount a deer for they'll be happy. keep the pictures coming.

that deer would've eventually died. good someone else got it before it suffered even more.

a full grown healthy adult deer isn't nearly as likely to get eaten by a predator. if I hit one with a non fatal shot, there's a good chance I've made it bait and made it a real possibility to get eaten alive. it's nature, but it still doesn't sit well. I shoot a few deer or more a year for quite a while now just myself. Now that DMAPS are called in and reported differently it'll show up on paper too. I've done, helped, or seen lots of other deer processed too. only shot where vitals have been hit that I've known lived was a single lung hit from an arrow low at a steep angle. the thick bottom of the chest cavity plugged up and clotted. the side hole in the rib cage got plugged from the popped lung or some kind of tissue, dried up a bit and clotted. any other deer we've eventually found, or we didn't see it again and didn't hear of anyone in the area getting it. I've seen deer hit in the shoulder, leg, high back backstraps (above and clear of intestines), in the nasal passage (150gr, 30-06 round), and in the neck. all those lived to the point they were fine, as in didn't die. I've known of lot of deer getting hit in the neck or hind quarter that hit an artery and bled right out. some don't make it 50 yards and others go a long way until they have barely any blood left. some of those were initially thought to be lost deer from the start, that turned into recovered deer. that's my experience.

I'm always sporting layers. an outer layer that blocks wind makes a huge difference. also I'm on stand with outer layers unzipped or I add a layer after sitting a while. it's takes over an hour for my body temp to dip back down, even if taking my time to walk in and climb into the stand. if you're wearing everything and not worried about over heating and sweating on the way in you're going to get cold. if you sweat on the way in you'll get cold even sooner.

a lot going on right now that makes quantity of sightings potentially take a dive. it's about to change as it's November now. they'll start to settle in just before action starts to ramp up. this morning was pretty chilly and the days are getting noticeably

as an electrical engineer I'd hate to rely on batteries and electronics for heat. never had an interest to look into them.
