Cool buck for sure but man i find it hard to hunt let alone take a buck before the rut rolls around. To tag out on the first week when we have pretty much all the stages of the rut in our bow season this year would be tough for sure. Good deal.

Are you talking about the Texas case? That one is real funny. They find CWD in the wild in 2012 and you hear nothing...Now the wild herd again passes it along to a farmed animal and some are up in arms. Typical. I think the best part is that any hunter can have their animals tested free of charge and payed by the state but any owners of whitetails that want a sample done has to cover the full shot out of pocket. Nah...No such thing as agendas, The lawsuit was filed in that state this afternoon. You will see another outcome like we did in Iowa and the taxpayers will be charged millions yet again. Will the never learn?

He is busy burning up and down our roads in his new wheels. I told all the guys at the shop to be on the lookout.... lol

Although its nice to get..120 is not out of the picture to kill every year and for most better states 120 is a nice looking buck that walks. I guess its all in the eyes of the beholder.

Oh some hunting will always be here. To some extent.

What are the 10 worst states for deer hunting? On the top of almost every whitetail hunter’s bucket list is a “dream trip” to a state famous for growing big, mature whitetails. After all, who wouldn’t want to chase Booners in places like Kansas, Iowa, or even Kentucky? SEE MORE: Would You Have Shot This Deer? [VIDEO] For the average hunter, however, a trip like this is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Most of us are confined to hunting within a few hours from home, and chasing the best whitetails our state has to offer. As deer season approaches (or is already open in many states) we’ve all read about the “best” states for chasing whitetails. States like Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Indiana consistently produce large numbers of trophy deer. What if, however, you don’t live in a “deer famous” state? We’ve compiled a list of 10 of the worst states for deer hunting. While there is no one category that makes a state “bad” for whitetail hunting, the following states exhibit low harvest numbers, large numbers of yearling bucks harvested, low numbers of mature bucks, heavy hunter density, consistently adverse weather, or all of the above. Disclaimer: There is no single category that makes a state “bad” or “good” in regards to whitetail hunting, nor does every hunter in a given state share a similar experience. The data used below was compiled from the Quality Deer Management Association’s 2013 Whitetail Report. Average temperature data was found here, and snowfall data can be found here. 10. Michigan Wikimedia Commons Michigan has a long and proud hunting heritage, and it’s placement on this list is sure to earn the ire of many of the state’s 648,000 hunters. In addition to being one of the coldest states, however, Michigan ranks second nationally in the percentage of yearling bucks harvested in 2013 (59% of all bucks harvested). In fact, only 17% of the bucks harvested in Michigan in 2013 were three and a half years old or older (third lowest nationally). The prospect of enduring adverse conditions and a large amount of competition for a relatively small chance at mature buck earns Michigan a second place ranking. 9. Wisconsin Wikimedia Commons Wisconsin is arguably one of the best states in the nation for chasing big whitetails. Over the years many record book deer have come from this great state. 54% of the bucks killed in 2013 were yearlings, however, and this combined with low temps and large amounts of snow earn Wisconsin a spot on our list. 8. Rhode Island It doesn’t seem fair, does it? While there’s no way that the smallest state in the Union can produce harvest numbers like Texas, Georgia, or Pennsylvania, Rhode Island placed near the bottom of deer harvested per square mile. Unfortunately, that’s enough to earn this great state a spot on our list. 7. Massachusetts Massachusetts is another state that earns a spot on our list mostly because of its size. While the number and quality of bucks harvested in Massachusetts (and all over the Northeast, in fact) have been steadily increasing, only 20% of hunters reported a harvest. In the end, there’s no way around that. 6. New Hampshire Wikimedia Commons New Hampshire is another small northeastern state that earned a spot on our list. It ranks fifth lowest in antlerless deer harvested per square mile, is amongst the coldest and snowiest states in the U.S., and 49% of the harvested bucks were only a year and half old. All those factors combined earn this state a sixth place ranking. 5. Pennsylvania There’s no denying that Pennsylvania can rack up some impressive deer harvest numbers. In 2013 the Keystone State hunters harvested an impressive 127,540 bucks, along with 208,660 anterless deer. While these numbers and mild weather compared to many other states on our list place Pennsylvania in some impressive company, it’s number one ranking in hunter density (20.3 hunters per square mile) and large yearling buck harvest (50% of all antlered deer) land it at number five. SEE MORE: Huge Yukon Bull Moose Gives Bowhunter the “Close Encounter” Treatment [VIDEO] 4. Maine Wikimedia Commons In 2013, Maine didn’t report the percentage of successful hunters, and we don’t blame them. Chasing whitetails in the vast woods and deep snow of the northeastern state presents a great challenge that few whitetail hunters will ever experience. But its lowest-antlerless-deer-per-square-mile ranking (0.2), low average temperature (41 degrees),high annual snowfall (62 in), and large yearling buck harvest (54%) mean that it is perhaps to much of challenge for many. 3. Vermont Vermont is arguably one of the most beautiful states in the nation, especially during the fall. Vermont also has a proud history of big buck hunting; after all, who hasn’t dreamed about chasing big woods monsters alongside the famous Benoit family? Despite all of these great qualities, Vermont’s challenging weather, low success rate and low overall harvest numbers earn it a number 3 ranking. 2. New Jersey New Jersey is a state that many don’t associate with deer hunting. In 2013, however, 63% of hunters reported harvesting at least one deer, which is in the top five nationally for hunter success rate. Despite it’s proximity to the Big Apple, the deer density is also competitive nationwide (3.6 anterless deer harvested per square mile in 2013, compared to the national average of 2.1). These numbers, however, don’t tell the entire story. New Jersey ranks in the bottom ten in total deer harvest by state, and number one in the percentage of yearling buck harvest. 62% of all antlered bucks killed in New Jersey are yearlings, and that combined with low overall harvest numbers earn New Jersey a number two ranking. SEE MORE: Can You Find the GhostBlind in These Photos? [PICS] 1. New York Wikimedia Commons One of the largest states in the Northeast, New York easily slides in at number one on our list. The Empire State ranks third in hunter density nationwide (15.1 hunters per square mile), and while harvest numbers are competitive nationally, 54% of all bucks harvested were yearling deer. In fact, only 18% of all bucks harvest in New York were three and a half years old or older (4th lowest nationally). This, combined with the highest average snowfall in the nation, means that New York has a large number of hunters enduring miserable conditions and a hostile political climate (in New York, you pay extra for your bowhunting “privilege”) to hunt a deer herd that is imbalanced at best. That, friends, is enough to earn New York the number one spot on our list of 10 Worst Deer Hunting States in 2014.

Taking of young bucks does it really make sense?
Four Season Whitetail's replied to HuntNfish100's topic in Region 5
I dont have a problem with the ones that kill yearlings, I have a problem when they all make every reason in the world as to why they shot it. Many would rather chew their arm off than say they did not kill a buck this year. No problem what so ever shooting does for meat or management reasons -
early season for bow sept 27 to oct 1
Four Season Whitetail's replied to cooper's topic in Bow Hunting
I thought they did away with early bow season? No bow hunting anywhere until the 1st of October anywhere? Did they not pass that law? -
So you walk to your stand and then get your drag ready and then walk back away from your stand with the drag and then walk back to your stand??? I always drag to my stand. Not from the truck but if i am hoofing it in to a stand i will scent up long before my stand. You cant be skimpy with scent when using it. The trick is to freshin up your drag often on your way to the stand.

QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
True words and all those words and sentiment boils down to what every hunter dreams of...Inches of Bone! You can say i would take any deer or i am a meat hunter but for most hunters...and the ones that have money and means..every part of their being when it comes to hunting is the hope of killing the biggest buck they can. -
Springcreek outfitters missouri is a scam
Four Season Whitetail's replied to Wiseman's topic in Out of New York Hunting
I can say that if it was me and i know where, why, when bucks live at different times of the year i sure would not have left early and i sure would not have hunted where they stuck me. If you are on a trophy hunt and you cant tell pretty quick if its trophy buck area you have already started the downhill slide. -
QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
I believe you are correct in your thinking but way off on your numbers. But the bottom line it is still all about the antler and inches. Thats why the food plots, Thats why the land improvements, Thats why the leased locked up land. All a labor of love with the thoughts and reasoning of hoping to kill the biggest buck on the place. If not then nothing would be done. Anybody worth their shells can walk in the woods and find any deer to kill. No diff in Ohio or any other state. The best land is ate up with high dollars trying to add up high scores. -
QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
Oh i agree but when some above say that antler and inches are not the driving force behind hunting and the reason that hunting will be a high dollar venture someday have the blinders on. Any state land will be trashed and be the unsafest place to be. -
QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
Yes Sir...Your last sentence said it all...The POSSIBILITY...Possibility to kill the biggest deer on the place! Thats whats in your mind, Thats your goal and you hope thats what happens. Yes you may take and settle for less but your driving force is antlers and the bigger the better! -
QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
I have no doubt someone can shoot a baby in about any woodlot they walk into but if you dont think 99% of hunting is not all about killing the biggest buck they can then you must have blinders on. Man, some of you even make the statements that nobody is killing does because everybody is antler crazed but then turn around and say its no about trophies. Do you go out and kill the first antlered buck you see, Fill your tag and call it a season? -

QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
You can spew whatever that statement it is you are trying to spew but if you think for one second the reason for high dollar leases, food plots and locking down land is not all for the reason of inches then you are a fool. I would like to see the number of hunters that wake up every morning at 4am and say..Man i hope a that little crotch horn show up today! Whatever! -
QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
That sure did start the ball rolling but antlers and inches sealed the deal for the future. QDM is just a feel good statement for TDM for most. They go thru the motions but their bottom line and goal is to make, hold and kill the biggest buck they every laid their eyes on! -
QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
100% That is where hunting is headed and one of the reasons i said hunting will be a high dollar activity. Regardless, I said high fence would become much bigger. When land gets locked down with high dollar leases hunters will have to make choices and pay either way. But you are spot on with this statement. QDM and big deer are the future and most any free open land will be over run and trashed! -
Do you think he notices the camera there? Sure does look like he is paying attention to something.

QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
Nah..I have my own honey holes on each ends of the state but yeah..Do show those QDM made 5.5 to 7.5 bucks. They must send reports back with the teeth from those bucks. Season is right around the corner, Im sure this thread will stay warm! -
When they are running around your property at all hours of the day and night there is very little energy put forth. When someone really has a problem they will see them in broad daylight. Alot.
-
And every other of the other states that have open season on what they call call..The Vermin? Of course they are going to take a free meal and they will also kill. Not just deer. You are overloaded with them and you will have no hunting as what they dont kill they will run them off. Have to tell ya that i have not heard a pack this year yet. A few lone single song dogs over on the base here and there but no packs on this corner yipping and yapping and then the pack on this corner across the road yapping back. I know you keep going back to your biologist about restocking yotes but i will promise you... War on them 24/7 365 and you will be rid of the problem. I would probably have to agree with you on the Macro Level statement!

QDM is ruining deer hunting
Four Season Whitetail's replied to fingerlakesfur's topic in Deer Hunting
Very few have enough land to make any kind of long term difference Many let the babies walk and Ar is helping mature animals. But QDM as a hole i would think is a very small part of it. I do QDM in my TDM every year myself. As far as your 5.5-7.5 year old bucks....Be sure to put pics up of all those success stories. That is like finding a needle in a haystack. Will need to see the proof...Not just Johnny at camp said so!
