I was invited to go on a spring bear hunt in Maine..
MACHINIST replied to Deerthug's topic in Bear Hunting
I didn't know they had a spring season either.I went last year had a great time and will be going back this year. There is legislation in November that's pushing for the end of hunting over bait,I didn't hear it included dogs though.Bear hunting is a awesome experience,of you have the money deffinatly go.have your friends been to this outfitter before? If not I would ask for references from people that killed bear and people that didn't.2k is a lot of money whether its a good deal or not so do your homework -
NY DEC: Wild Boars No Longer "Fair Game"
MACHINIST replied to burmjohn's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Man I hate people who lie,you told me it was a Chupacabra and a Yeti -
3 and 5 I would say

Seeing them mostly, and killing a few or getting shots if I mess it up.I just hate the dry spells that you get that are weeks long

Get a handmuff and a light pair of gloves and don't look back, best clothing investment I have made in the last few years!

The trophy in the shooters eyes, who cares???Kill what you want to kill and be happy about it.If a 1 1/2 year old spike or 4 is what makes you happy and your not in a AR area then drop the hammer,or set your sights as high as you and whatever deer are available will let you.

That would be awesome!!!I love going to camp that week.hunt the morning and afternoon and have 4-5 hours between the hunts to do some work around camp, lounge around, trout fish or whatever the heck you want to do.Its become a ritual every year for a few of us

If they do they do.I like it the way it is but around the area I hunt most(7A) they need to do something different I feel.

Been doing my best bud

Yes but I like to be able to use last years tags before they are total tag soup

Some semi's can be finiky when it come to ammo.My friend and I both had flocks, one 17 and one 19.Both 9mm and one wouldn't cycle a certain brand of ammo worth a bean(it was a long time ago can't remember what ammo it was)Just find what it likes and buy a bunch

Oh wow that really sucks if you ask me.My first trip of the year is the 4 days using last years tags.I don't have a ton of luck but its gets all the gear in order and is one of my favorite trips of the year.Hopefully someone else can shed some light on this subject

Cool cant wait to see this beast! I have a trail cam pic of a monster from around the area that is a absolute beast,I would bt its the one that we are all talking about.

Any deer is a trophy to me.I have a few 8's and a 10 on the wall but I still get my heart pumping when I match wits with a any deer.

The only thing I didn't like about the HBS was if you didn't see them coming from a ways out then it was just another thing to add to the list to get ready to shoot the deer. When I did use mine I never got cold, they just plain work.I bought a pair of Cabelas STand hunter extreme coveralls on closeout and they are the closest thing I have seen to the HBS

Nothing better!!!! Congrats bud!!!

Not our worst year(close for me) but the worst year for the deer to just shut off and leave my main hunting area.I was getting 100-125 pics a week on trail cam from 8-1 to around thanksgiving, then it was like someone threw a switch.I pulled my cams SD cards last night after a week sit and had 4-5 different pics of different deer all at night. This is the first year since I was old enough to hunt that I cant remember seeing a decent buck( good 8 or bigger),and I hunted my azz off!!This same farm the last 2 times it snowed I gave it a few days and walked the field edges to see where they were coming and going and saw minimal tracks for the area.
-
I use the same and I keep fairly warm unless its single digits, then I break out the Cabelas stand hunter coveralls. My feet are the problem but I also have the batter powered heated socks from Cabelas and that helps a bunch

Unfortunatly parking areas are always areas that scumbags always drop carcasses off,a spot that I hunt usually has 10-15 for the year dropped at the parking area.I called the DEC to let them know because one only had the antlers and the backstraps removed and he said that the local DPW drops off hit deer there.

thats for sure!!
