Urban legend deer situation. What would you do?
MACHINIST replied to Al Bundy's topic in Deer Hunting
Yea no chit, threads like this drive me nuts because all it does is get people fighting saying this guy is wrong and this one is right. The deer if I can get close to it after dark is a dead one even if it needs another shot.If someone is as big a touch hole to get to the deer, look at it suffering ,then leave to call the DEC then that person needs a touch of reality.Do the right thing and kill the deer.Thats what you were in the woods to do in the first place!!As far as the last question I know what I would do and I am not saying. -
Yup they do I was looking into one for my little girl who just turned 12 this year.I am going to get her the SA-20 autoloader so it soaks up some more recoil also. She is a tiny little kid(not like her mom or dad!!LOL) The price of the auto from the pump is about 120 dollars difference and I have heard the bantam micros kick pretty good because they are very small

Who hunts the late Archery and has been successfull?
MACHINIST replied to ApexerER's topic in Bow Hunting
My brother in laws first does with a bow was in the late season. It can be done but it is tough.I say go for it,what else do you have to do?? -
The youth hunter I used to take out(he is 18 now),his father bought him a Mossberg 500 in 410 and insisted he used it for his first year of turkey.I got a monster tom into 20 yards that he shot in the head and it ran away from the shot.He hit the turkey perfect and we know this because his father was videoing the hunt and we watched it play back. The next day we went out with a friends single shot 20 gauge NEF,and bagged his tom.I say the 410 is way to light. Please get a 20 if turkey is involved. PS later the next day when we were packing his bird out we found the remains of a turkey and it was in the direction the tom went afte ther sot.I feel the tom died in some thick brush as it was around 100 yards past were we stopped looking for the bird.

Early,I think you are taking what Biz said a little to harshly. He wasnt throwing a threat to you he was simply saying as long as it was legal he would have any head on his wall.Did he say it like I would have....no,but I don't think he totally meant he was going to shoot you. That's my interpretation of how I see it anyways and you are entitled to yours.

I had a trufire 3d thumb release that I had accidentally put through the washer and dryer. When it came out the release was beat up pretty bad and wouldn't grip the d-loop on my string. So I went right out and bought another of the same release because I like them. When I got home from hunting a night or 2 later I shot trufire a email saying what had happened and asked if they offered repairing services.I was told to box it up and send it down to them.5 days later I received a phone call telling me the release was fixed and on its way back to me,I asked how much was the repair and they told me no charge.Trufire will receive business from me for whatever I can get from them. Its great to see places that give great service to their customers.Just wanted to let everyone know that they are a good company!!

Anyone have a 7J tag they are willing to give up?

The only anti hunting sentiment I see here is yours bud.He is totally in his right to hunt fox with a 308,just like you can shoot a deer with a 223.Is it the best tool for the job???nope but it will work.I am pretty sure if we had a shirt made that said "I am a nit picking ninny who hates anyone that doesn't do as I would is a bad person and fuels the anti hunting crowd"....well at least one would get sold anyways!

ha!!

Early you think a fox doesn't kill small poults or even gets into the eggs when the hen is laying?I have seen many times in the city I live in foxes that have killed cats and if they can kill a cat I will guarantee small dogs aren't to far off either.

My family doesn't eat more than one small deer in a years time, unless I have summer sausage/snack sticks made.I usually take 2-5 deer a year but thats because I either have friend or family that cant, wont or doesn't like to hunt.I donate meat to a few families at our church also.My most favorite thing to do in a year beside getting a crack at a big buck is getting someone a deer that they are having a tough time getting. Now does taking up to 5 deer a year make me a bad person if all the meat is going to people that always eat it???I don't think so and I don't thin it makes me any better hunter than anyone else.I love to hunt, love to kill deer and love to share with friends and family. Weather its by providing them with meat for there table with a deer I killed, getting them a deer they have had a tough time getting or just spending the day in the woods with them. The number or what deer is taken means nothing to me as long as its legal and tagged by the hunter
-
first off its legal for him to take a fox, will shooting one with his 308 give him a nice pelt/mount???More than likely no,but he paid for his license and he can do what he wants.Let him be.We all like to hunt and we all do things a touch different, just because a guy is doing something you wouldn't do then it doesn't make him wrong and you right. Also fox kill the hell out of turkeys while they are eggs, and also are big time killers of cats and small dogs.they do there damage and like all the animals we hunt their #'s need to be kept in check
-
I have shot fox with everything from a 22 all the way up to a 30-06.The 06 was the worst followed closely by the 308.If you use a slow expanding bullet then it may not be bad.
-
Great day, killed a small doe down in state land.Back to work tomorrow
-
I shoot a 308 and I will tell you that for a hunting bullet the Core-lokt bullets from Remington are absolute bad azz killers.Try them.I have shot core Lokts out of every rifle I own and with the exception of one they were the top 2 most accurate bullets that shot and will leave a blood trail from a deer that will look like someone sprayed the woods with a weed sprayer.

Thanks, been down in Frozen ocean hunting all day.Morning was a big time bust.Hopefully the afternoon will be different.Hunting with 2 friends and we haven'tlaid eyes on one deer...unless you count the one on the side of the road on the way to get lunch

I would take a piebald and a albino,to each his own as long as its legal!
-
I try and fail every year,it might be because I am not very good or it may be tht I loose patients after about 200 yards and then its 5 steps, stop, scan for a second then 5 more

I just bought the same vidoe. It has a ton of good info but I will agree their tactics are really extreme!! I do agree with you that the bucks they have are not in the same relm as to the deer we hunt, but the DVD still has a ton of great info.I am buying the farm country bucks and the marsh country bucks dvd because they are trying to help us get more deer, not sell us on camo or any other crap that every other DVD does that I have seen
