    Lent

It is hardly a sacrifice to abstain from meat one day a week, so many great menu choices. This past Friday we had Smoked Salmon with Tomato Cream Sauce, delicious.
  2. Rob-c, that is good advice, thanks. The owner there showed me several rests and sights, but told me that he would set it up very basic so i could shoot arrows and develop form. He said later on you can always upgrade. He also suggested that I shoot other bows as much as possible. He doesn’t sell Mathews, but he said it is definitely one of the better bows and in great shape. One guy there said, “If you’re going to learn to drive, it might as well be in a Mercedes.”

It is! Had one a couple of nights ago, definitely tasty!
  4. Thanks to a great deal through the Real TC III I have a new to me left handed bow. (Mathews Derenalin) Today, I went to Wildwood Archery near Syracuse and the owner helped me set it up with the rest and sight. He gave me some very basic instuction and I shot my first ever arrow at a target from 15 feet away. I actually hit the board! Ha ha. Someone else there was also a lefty and he let me use his bow (a Bowtech) from the 20 yard range, and I actually hit the dam target again, a little low and left, but I hit it very close to where I was aiming. Pretty happy with my very first attempts. I plan to head back Monday evening when they are open to try a few more arrows. All new and everything is strange. Almost like learning a new language. TurkeyFeathers - YOU’RE UP MAN!!
  5. My great grandmother and grandfather were from Palermo. He was a Cabinieri (policeman) They eloped in 1905 or so to NYC. When the boat docked her brothers were on the dock waiting for her and then beat the heck out of her. It was not an approved or arranged marriage. It must have worked out because I am here. I have her oak kitchen table in my house, I refinished it when I got married.
  6. JRod and SMokeinTN, you can get really good wine kits online and make 6 gallons in a few weeks right in your basement. You may have one right in your town. Any varietal in the world is available, plus several “mixes”. My wife and I make 6 gallons of Peach Apricot Chardonnay in April, and it is ready for the summer season. (Works out to about 30 bottles) She likes it cold from the fridge and it makes a great white sangria too. It is not as much work or equipment needs as making it from grapes, but it comes out really good too. Just follow the directions exactly. I hope we didn’t derail this thread from Wine, we may need to start another one to save it!
  7. Otto is my forum nickname, named after my first Brittany. But if your family is Sicilian that at the very least we are Pisano. My family is from Lingulaglossa near Catania, where is yours from?

    Lent

Definitely no meat on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays. I tried to give up alcohol last year, but caved within the first few days. Daily mass is a big commitment, good for you for doing that.

Blends right in with the carpet!
  10. I will watch curling just for this.
  11. My Gradfather made it for years - he emigrated here from Sicily. Almost every Italian basement is also a wine basement. (And second kitchen too). My Father (also from Sicily) made wine every year too, although he never drank any alcohol, save for some Creme D’Mint on vanilla ice cream one a year. My brothers and I just picked up the tradition and not to brag, but I think we make some pretty good wine. A few years ago, we entered one batch in the NYS Fair and got a Bronze Medal. I go to a “Homemade Wine Dinner” a couple of times a year and have tasted a lot of other homemade stuff. There is some really good wine being made in small batches.
  12. Well, I better post then.... along with my brother, brother in law, his Dad, and my friend, I make about 90 gallons of red wine a year. Each of these barrels hold 60 gallons, the other 30 gallons are in glass jars. We rotate the wine once during the year (racking) so it is all on oak at some point. We buy the grapes from California, this year was Zinfandel, the year before Cab Sav. We will bottle up the wine after it has been in the barrel for 2 years. This is a family tradition for us. We use the grape press that belonged to our Grandfather, but most of the other equipment is newer. I'll post a pic of a glass poured after I go through my latest beer purchases. Beer

We might need a wine thread too. I don’t always drink beer, I actually drink more wine than beer, especially in the winter time.

Yes, it was. Not as hazy and not as strong a grapefruit taste, but it is a definite repeat. (Not sure why this did not post last night??)

    Forum Use

I just click on Unread Content and keep going until I see replies I know I’ve seen before. Sometimes there is an interesting topic in some obscure sub-forum and I don’t miss it that way.

I did find a Craft Store in Syracuse called Now & Later. It's a bar (now) and a store (later) I picked up a couple of beers to try that I have heard about on this thread. I have had Sip, and bought 4 of those too. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  20. Oh, I really don’t know too much about them. I had heard once that Tiffany was cheating on Lee with one of the camera crew? But she did say “when we were here last year, I was 8 1/2 months pregnant”. It was just an interesting side show to everything. They have a full roster of seminars throughout the day.
  21. I went today for the first time. It is a lot to see in a few hours, I would have liked more time. My cousin told me we walked 3.5 miles while we were there. We did sit and watch Tiffany and Lee for about 20 minutes. She looked pretty dam good from 40 feet away.

OK with me, he would have to drive right by Syracuse to pick me up on the way!!
